ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT - discontinued WHY

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 09:59

ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT is now scented- the wisdom of always designers has finally gone mad. Again they have removed a really good product for heavy period sufferers and made it scented saying this is what women want. I really dont want people being able to smell an over scented pad. Other than that my lubby loo doesnt appreciate the irriation that it also causes, a £2 packed of scented pads ends costing me over £20 in thrush and water infection product so thanks ALWAYS. I drove round 11 shops and made several phone calls in just one day searching for the old unscented stock. Ive even rang and emailed Always asking to buy cases of old stock but no luck, ive been told women want scented or winged products. ( wings umm trusted always to leak down your legs)
If anyone else hates scented pads please contact Always to complain.
Ive tried the other nighttime peoduces on offer but find them rubbish. It would be easier to stick on the loo for a week than it is to gind decent sanitary products

For the benefit of Always

I won't buy scented any brand.
Your heavy duty pads have become as soft as cardboard.
Wings are unnecessary & uncomfortable.

Being perimenopausal & prone to flooding I buy a lot of this stuff, your loss.

EugenesAxe · 09/05/2019 22:49

I only buy Bodyform now; hate scented pads. Their mega night ones are OK; only need to double up with tampons on my absolutely worst days.

EugenesAxe · 09/05/2019 22:57

Although I feel really guilty I’ve never come across Natracare before now! Stupid - I should have investigated. Will switch now.

glueandstick · 09/05/2019 23:11

God knows what is going through their minds, but it’s a weird place.

The scent gives me rashes and sores which is just fucking fantastic. And the glue is so sticky now there should be warnings on the packet not to get it anywhere near your bits. I had a DIY wax (on my already sore and angry bits) thanks to slippage. Fuck me that hurt.

Mumsymumphy · 09/05/2019 23:22

Yes they've changed the Always Maxi pad too, it's thinner with those blue line thingies on it. Damn you Always! I relied on the old style, it really was the best for getting me through the horrific first 2 days.

longtompot · 09/05/2019 23:31

Phew, was slightly worried they had actually stopped making them! They are the only ones which actually work, and even when they let me down, I can't imagine how on earth lesser pads would cope at that same time.
Scented don't really bother me, unless I have a particularly long period and then they irritate. I just wish they were not such a weird floral scent, like the farmers use to make the slurry smell nicer (not) when sprayed on the fields.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 09:04

Hi janartameen - ive tried boots, superdrug, homebargains, b&m, wilkos, boots, tesco, sainburys, asds, morrisins, makro jtf and a shed load of small chemists( im desperate) and from all those got 10 old packs. They all stock the new proactive stinky ones. Im just checking out the reusable ones but i cant work out how they stay in your pants? I move about alot at night so they need to be cement into place

I found this out too and bought a job lot from Amazon- I'm also peri menopausal and hope I stop before I run out stockpiled pads. That and original source stopping lavender shower gel - I'm cursed

AngeloMysterioso · 10/05/2019 09:38

Lubby loo?!?!

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 09:38

Oh really ive love the lavender original source i didnt know. Bummer. Yeah ive tried my best to stockpile with no luck 😭

The really bizarre thing is that periods smell mostly because of the plastic absorbing stuff used in pads in the first place. Cloth pads do not smell anything like disposable pads. So Always are making a product that causes smells and then adding scent so that they stink differently. How is that a sane response?

So maybe it is time to remember that Always are in the business of making money and not in the business of providing something useful for women or the environment.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 10:02

Come on you must of heard it called that. I am 50. Im a lady lol

I use own brand ones, not scented

Number12 · 10/05/2019 10:12

On no I use these pads too and I don't want scented either!! I can however recommended Always smartfoam. They come in a box they are fantastic and I have very heavy periods. It took me a while to trust them but they have always worked! I can only buy them in boots though, why?

I hate all this scented crap they make.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 10:12

Isnt it strange im from the era that you called your period your monthly, my mum actually told me not to talk to anyone about it at school, sticky back pads had only just been getting fashionable cause it used tobe doctor whites with a suspender belt to hold in place. Dead sexy not. I can remember starting in my history class with no pad about 12yrs old and terrified to tell the teacher and my mum being pissed off cause i dirtied my school uniform. Didnt matter how mortified i was that boys, BOYS had seen me on.
And to think in 40 odd years the stick on pad has really only advance to a smell one.

Try maternity pads at night. They won't be scented and much more comfortable.

I like scented and wings but wings bother me when that mesh layer thing on top feels like wire against my skin

PopcornPopper · 10/05/2019 10:22

Tudbury, I remember my Mum buying pads from the local shop and they used to hide them in a brown paper bag because you know, periods are shameful Grin also my friends Mum had a looped belt and we were fascinated by it as we didn't quite understand the logistics of it.

I switched to resuable pads a long time ago. The ones linked above (Honour your flow, twilight angel pads) are huge and cover your bum crack, in fact on me they almost reach the waistline of my knickers. They are used by post-partum women too. Honour your flow large pads are also long, measurements can be found here on their own site, measure your Always pads and find an equivalent.

How do they stay in place? I wear large granny pant knickers for the nights and then a pair of men's boxer shorts and it holds everything in place, no leaks. I have endometriosis and am in way too much pain to even consider a menstrual cup on the first few days of my period. No irritation from the pad, they are super soft.

Yes you can tumble dry them, I have had some of mine 8 years. I just put them in with bath towels - no fabric softner and tumble dry on high with the towels.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 10:46

Thats brill thanks im the same with pain id forgot the brown paper bag ive got to say even now i wont go to buy them from a man and i need a bag for them its strange how things stick with you even after all this time. Its nice to know the reusable pads last a long time as they are well expensive

Fazackerley · 10/05/2019 10:48

Bodyform. Clearly state perfume free and cheaper. Women who want scented pads are idiotic IMO

Greyhound22 · 10/05/2019 10:58

I went round 3 shops the other day to find some normal thick pads.

None anywhere. All those horrid scratchy things with flaps that don't stick to your underwear and ruck up.

FloofyDoof · 10/05/2019 11:07

Me and DD use bodyform unscented, they're the only reasonably priced non scented ones that I can usually get hold of. I can't stand scented pads, I find them irritating.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 11:32

Just received this email back from P&G who make always.
Hi Deborah,
Thank you for getting back to me, I’m pleased to hear you have used the voucher that I had sent but it is a shame to hear that you weren’t as keen on the Always Maxi with wings and that you haven’t been able to find the older unscented Maxi pads. I can understand how frustrating it must be that we have changed the design of our maxi pads, and that you feel they no longer work as well as you would expect. Having said this, I do understand that you would prefer the original design, but I’d like to let you know that the reason these pads were changed was to introduce better features.
Whenever a new pad is designed or an existing one is changed, we do conduct extensive research and consumer testing to ensure that it meets the needs and preferences of our consumers. However, we realise that the preferred designs, and other characteristics will vary from person to person. Please be assured that I’ve logged all of your comments on our system as we do take consumer feedback seriously, and this will be really helpful for our internal checks. We’re always looking for ways to meet the needs of our consumers and your feedback will certainly help us with our research, so I do thank you for taking the time to do this.
Thanks again for contacting us about this and if you have any questions for me at all please don’t hesitate to ask, as I’m always more than happy to help in any way I can.
Kind Regards
Jennifer

I'm larger, and have always had chronically heavy periods. I have endometriosis.

I kept getting an advert for cloth sanitary products on Amazon, I've used cloth/ jam sponge/ mooncup for years but these particular pads are mahoosive. They cover the flaps, go far enough up front and back of crack, and nothing runs down the legs.

No idea what the name is, but there's no fireflaps in this house!

longtompot · 10/05/2019 12:21

@Tudbury do you have the email address for Jennifer at P&G? I would like to email her too as they have clearly not asked a wide enough range of women about this.
The Always infinity ones do work incredibly well, and it took me a while to pluck up the courage to try them. But they are so so expensive!

Northernlurker · 10/05/2019 12:26

Always infinity are good. Lilet pads are also good. I have to go to boots for both though.
