ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT - discontinued WHY

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 09:59

ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT is now scented- the wisdom of always designers has finally gone mad. Again they have removed a really good product for heavy period sufferers and made it scented saying this is what women want. I really dont want people being able to smell an over scented pad. Other than that my lubby loo doesnt appreciate the irriation that it also causes, a £2 packed of scented pads ends costing me over £20 in thrush and water infection product so thanks ALWAYS. I drove round 11 shops and made several phone calls in just one day searching for the old unscented stock. Ive even rang and emailed Always asking to buy cases of old stock but no luck, ive been told women want scented or winged products. ( wings umm trusted always to leak down your legs)
If anyone else hates scented pads please contact Always to complain.
Ive tried the other nighttime peoduces on offer but find them rubbish. It would be easier to stick on the loo for a week than it is to gind decent sanitary products

Honestly try continence pads, they’re specifically designed to catch large amounts I’ve even used dd’s Nappies on some particularly grim occasions because they will cover the bum area.

MyDcAreMarvel · 09/05/2019 11:08

Try supermarkets own maternity pads the thick ones.

Justheretosee · 09/05/2019 11:08

Also agree why would they make them scented? The smell is so distinct too I can smell them on other people, so unfortunate they don’t just offer both types

youvegottobekidding · 09/05/2019 11:09

These are the only pads dd likes to wear as well, did you try Home Bargains and have got The Range near you op?

lostelephant · 09/05/2019 11:11

I've used bodyform for years but my mum gave me some Always discreet pads and I couldnt believe how strong the scent is as soon as you open the pack. Might as well pray perfume directly up your vag because the thrush will be guaranteed either way!!

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 11:11

Men thats who they ask

I hate scented pads, they don't even smell nice it's a horrendous smell. And they make my fanjo burn, I understand they'll have done market research but who are they asking?! Who enjoys that horrendous smell?

Knockout · 09/05/2019 11:13

I emailed always a few years ago about the awful scent crystals they started using. Wearing an Always pad now has about the same effect on my vulva as a Brillo pad Angry

They replied that they had done lots of focus groups and the women there said that the smell of their period was one of their main concerns - hence they decided to give us the wonderful benefit of adding a cheap, delicate skin unfriendly, and frankly nasty car air freshener to their pads.

I now use washable pads and period pants.

SlothMama · 09/05/2019 11:16

I understand that the worry of smelling would come up in focus groups. But why they've gone for a chemical, nose burning smell is beyond me. I'd rather smell than wear one of their products, I've gone for bodyform now.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 09/05/2019 11:16

Boots own-brand maternity pads could work- they’re as thick as a brick but long and comfy.

Alternatively the Tena lady pants- I used them for post-birth bleeding with both dc2 and they’re bomb proof. They’re expensive but it’ll save your bedding!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 09/05/2019 11:16

Tudbury that’s what I decided too but when I said to dh I was switching brands (because sometimes he’d pick some up for me) he asked why & when I explained about the scent he was most perplexed about why it would be needed & said himself that it was surely a recipe for thrush. So even men think it’s a bit odd.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 09/05/2019 11:18

It really says it all that instead of improving the pads themselves, they went for the easy option of splashing a bit of Frebreeze on their existing products.

SwearyPoppins · 09/05/2019 11:18

Have you thought about tena pads/pants? They were recommended to me when I was flooding due to fibroids. When I had a disaster one day a random woman gave me a tena pad and it was absolutely superb!

Excited101 · 09/05/2019 11:19

I was 100% loyal to Always from roughly 13 to 29. I use bodyform now and much prefer them! Their sticky wrappers are genius.

MyDcAreMarvel · 09/05/2019 11:24

I use always sensitive but only at the tail end of my period as I am heavy. They are non scented and v cheap.

JanartaMeen · 09/05/2019 11:25

I hate this also and have dumped Always as a result.

Have you tried period pants in combo with pads? I have found them life changing. I have such heavy periods and haven't had a leak since. (touch wood).

I got them from Cheeky Wipes (absorbent) and some non absorbent ones but waterproof from Amazon.

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 11:28

I ve not tried the tenor lady but i'll give them ago.
KNOCKOUT - you said you use washable pads and period pants? How do they work with washing and drying. I dont fancy them on the rads and theres no way i'd line hang them lol. Are they suitable for heavy periods ( mattress size) do they shrink if tumble dried and its abit strange to ask but do they need ironing.
Sorry ive got big hooped skirts and rolled rags in my mind 😅

Tena night in the purple pack is my friend on heavy days/nights, they are not scented and soft not scratchy.

Knockout · 09/05/2019 11:42

The period pants look just like normal large knickers. But they have some kind of magic woven into them which is scarily absorbent. I can wear them all night on day 2 (my horrible heaviest) and not leak. I was so sceptical that they would actually work to begin with but they do actually manage to contain the whole deluge.

I don't think my pants are suitable for the tumble dryer but the pads are.

JanartaMeen · 09/05/2019 11:43

I put my period pants and washable pads in the dryer on low and they have so far survived.

JanartaMeen · 09/05/2019 11:43

(I don't think I'm supposed to though!).

GoJetterGirl · 09/05/2019 11:47

Can I recommend cheeky wipes washable Sandro?

I made the switch when I couldn’t find a suitable unscented pad, they come in a range of sizes, I find one of the maternity pads do quite well overnight and don’t leak even on my heaviest days

LaurieFairyCake · 09/05/2019 11:50

Knockout - what brand are they?

BrainScience · 09/05/2019 11:50

I think that’s it isn’t it? They asked women if they were concerned that they may smell when they’re on their period, rather than ‘would you like to wear a pad scented with itching powder and Febreeze?’ I’m a very girly girl and I do get embarrassed by periods and shave my legs, wear make up etc. But I’m never putting another one of Satan’s carpets in my knickers in my life. I’d rather wear pants made from sandpaper.
