Hello everyone, here's thread 2.

I'd be very grateful if someone could do a clicky link to the last one. Still can't figure it out.

Thanks!

I wonder if the upgrade when Charles succeeds to the throne, is the part Harry will turn down?

ByeClaire · 30/04/2019 18:39

I was wondering that @MissEliza I think he and Meghan have previously said they will turn down a title for their child so they can have more freedom. I dunno. There is kudos either way. I suspect on balance they won't.

ByeClaire · 30/04/2019 18:44

Can the baby be Prince X or Princess Y? I'm not sure of the rules.

TwitterQueen1 · 30/04/2019 18:44

There's no way Meghan will turn down a title

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 18:46

Not automatically. Only when Charles is King or by special Letters Patent.

Not automatically until Charles becomes King. The Queen can issue letters patent though which could allow them to be.

That's what she did when Kate was pregnant with George as under the 1917 LP's only the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales would be HRH Prince, so if she'd had a girl she'd have been Lady Windsor despite being their heir and then a younger brother would have been HRH.

Once Charles becomes King all of his grandchildren, as they are all on the male line, have the automatic right to HRH Prince/Princess

Oh but we all adore her for her modesty and lack of personal ambition. Remember? Wink

lyralalala · 30/04/2019 18:49

I think the titles thing will entirely depend on Prince Charles, and thats why I think it's highly likely they will be given the HRH Prince/ss title.

He's into slimming the monarchy, yes, but he's also not going to be keen on his grandchildren having lesser titles I don't think.

LaMarschallin · 30/04/2019 18:49

ByeClaire
Maybe Botswana?

Perhaps Precious à la Alexander McCall Smith?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_No._1_Ladies%27_Detective_Agency

Would put folding money on a title.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 18:50

I think Louis would have been Lord too, without LPs, @lyralalala

But you can see why they did it with George's siblings. They wanted him to feel as normal as possible, and have some kind of parity in the sibling group.

I don't think the same rationale is there for Harry's offspring.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 18:51

He'll look like a stinking great hypocrite If he starts tinkering in favour of his DGC. Especially after the hardline who took on Beatrice and Eugénie.

LaMarschallin · 30/04/2019 18:53

Oops.
Forgot that for a moment.
If there were to be a title she no doubt donate it to the deserving poor.

Princess/Lady LaMarschallin sounds good.
I'm dead deserving, me. And quite poor.
I ❤ Meghan.

lyralalala · 30/04/2019 18:54

Louis would have been Lord @RubberTreePlant

The change was made during Kate's pregnancy and I think that's because if she'd had a girl first she couldn't have been superceeded by a younger brother, but her younger brother would have been seen to get the higher title. They couldn't afford the outcry of a Lady Charlotte, the future queen, being joined by a HRH Prince younger brother had the first born been a girl.

I think Charles is keen for his two sons and their children to be seen as the future of the monarchy so I think he might be keen for it. In some ways it also makes sense rather than changing their style when they are less than 10/12 (unless the Queen is really planning on breaking records!) years old.

ByeClaire · 30/04/2019 18:56

Thanks for answering!

Ok so Beatrice and Eugenie are my next Q - I was thinking of how they are princesses but that's of course because they're the Queen's grandchildren I guess. But what hardline did Charles talk about them Rubber?

I love Precious as a middle name. Doubt it will happen though. But there will be something African-related.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 18:57

Louis would have been Lord @RubberTreePlant**

That's what I said.

TwitterQueen1 · 30/04/2019 18:57

Sorry RubberTreePlant
She is of course wonderful in every respect

Actually I have genuinely hated all the 'vilification' of MM. She 100% absolutely doesn't deserve it. I just think they're caught up in their own little fantasy world of love and babies and doing good in the world and, tbh, which of us hasn't revelled in all that altruism and 'making the world a better place.' Let them enjoy it while they can. Plenty of time for reality to kick in later on.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 18:58

Oh ISWYM. If she'd been the eldest. Got you Blush

lyralalala · 30/04/2019 18:59

That's what I said.

I was agreeing with you.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 19:00

He's been adamant that they're not "working Royals", should get jobs, shouldn't have police protection and so on. All part of his vision for a "slimmed down" monarchy.

Prince Andrew has not been happy about it all.

noodlenosefraggle · 30/04/2019 19:01

Well he could argue that being the grandchildren of the reigning monarch would give them more status than the nieces of the reigning monarch. If the monarchy are good at one thing, it is their own survival. How long can they justify 'cousins of the monarch' still being given grace and favour apartments for life,?

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 19:01

I know @lyralalala , I'm sorry, I got confused for a bit there Grin

lyralalala · 30/04/2019 19:02

I also think it'll depend on what they think the public perception will be. If most people think/assume that Harry's child would be HRH Prince/ss then they risk being seen as witholding a title from the child of the first mixed race Duchess. Which is problematic for them.

However, if most people know how it works then they could be accused of fiddling things.

I wouldn't like to be the one making the call!

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 19:03

Thing is "cousin of the monarch" is this baby's destiny. Same as Beatrice and Eugénie. So you might as well start as you mean to go on. To an extent, anyway.

lyralalala · 30/04/2019 19:04

The Beatrice and Eugenie thing always makes me think that Charles gets the sole blame, but the Queen must have been in agreement.

If she wanted them to be full time working royals they would have been.

ByeClaire · 30/04/2019 19:07

I've never been interested interested in the RF. MM joining them did pique my interest as I was an avid fan of Suits and so knew of her. She was alright on Suits, I never thought much of her character, too boring too, male fantasy clearly written by a man, didn't really add much wit.

She has clearly always been ambitious and into being sophisticated and worldly. Which is why I think it's funny she's with Prince Harry because despite all the travelling he's done, I suspect unlike MM he doesn't have street smarts. He's also by all accounts really quite dim, and I don't think she is. That exchange at Eugenie's wedding where he talks of "everything being different" in the chapel, and her rolling her eyes slightly - I don't blame her. If that's the level of stunning mental analysis and conversation she has to put up with then fair fucks to her.
