This is tragic for the US and DoJ.

REPORTER: "Why isn't Robert Mueller here? It's his report."
BARR: "No it's not."

'Barr notes again it's at his "discretion" whether the report is public. Then he gets asked if he's prespinning the report before the public can see it. "No," Barr says. And with that, we are done with questions.'

Oh fuck you. It's not over. Not by a long chalk.

HBO's statement re Scrotus using GoT pictures and quotes: "We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes."

lionheart · 18/04/2019 15:17

Trump has had the report since March 29th.

Neal Katyal, former acting U.S. solicitor general: "This Justice Department has purged, it seems to me, anyone who thinks independent, or frankly, who's consistent with the traditions of the department."

ludothedog · 18/04/2019 15:41

I'm sorry, I just don't buy it. So many contacts with the Russians, so many lies and Trump saying himself that they should steal the emails, of course there was collusion. Why would he obstruct, and clearly there was obstruction, if there was no collusion?

I guess in the end truth will out.

I can't figure out Rosenstien either - where is he in all of this? He seems to be supporting Barr?

Roussette · 18/04/2019 15:44

Rosenstein looked like a waxwork figure during the presser. And uncomfortable.

I think this sums it up...

Elizabeth Warren

@ewarren
It's a disgrace to see an Attorney General acting as if he's the personal attorney and publicist for the President of the United States.

lionheart · 18/04/2019 15:55

What must have been going through his mind?

Roussette · 18/04/2019 15:55

The basic rationalization Barr gives for why Trump didn’t legally obstruct justice is that he was emotionally upset about being accused of potential crimes and bad media coverage and acted out. That’s the actual argument the Attorney General of the United States made.

Link to redacted report-

Hearhere · 18/04/2019 16:31

I notice Barr became very snippy when challenged about his consideration for the fact that the president was upset about things

PerkingFaintly · 18/04/2019 16:33

At blooming last! Thank you, sleipnir.

PerkingFaintly · 18/04/2019 16:43

OK, that link's to Mueller Report Vol 1 of 2.

I tried to look at p191 and ff, Chap 4 False Statements and Obstruction of the Investigation and it's not in the downloadable file – oh, but it is in the part you can read staying on the CNN website.

A few individuals are redacted though, so...

PerkingFaintly · 18/04/2019 16:50

Vol II, p2:

Fourth, if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and on the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgement.

PerkingFaintly · 18/04/2019 16:51

(I may leave the full reading to others – and wait till it's available in a C&P-able form, rather than typing stuff out like above!)

Roussette · 18/04/2019 17:00

Interesting to follow CNN's live updates about the Report.

It really is not 'innocent innocent innocent' like Trump et al would have you believe. Far from it. And the timing is so engineered for minimum impact.

'The Thursday release date comes right before Easter and Passover, and coincides with one of the longest recesses on Capitol Hill.'

lionheart · 18/04/2019 17:00

Just imagine if all the information in this report had come out in one single deluge instead of a series of slow drips. Trump would likely be ousted and the US political system would be rocked by the sheer volume of corrupt, criminal, and disqualifying behavior in this scandal.

Hearhere · 18/04/2019 17:02

he's tweeted a picture of himself with game over written across his retreating figure, I know that isnt what he means to convey but that could just as easily mean game over for trump
