Trump “sought to have AG Sessions unrecuse & to have Special Counsel removed, & engaged in efforts to curtail SC investigation & prevent disclosure of evidence to it, through public & private contact with potential witnesses.” That’s multiple counts of obstruction & interference.

Trump on Mueller appointment: "This is the end of my Presidency"
In May 2017, after President Trump learned from then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had appointed special counsel Robert Mueller, Trump “slumped back in his chair and said, ‘Oh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my Presidency. I'm f*ed.’”

'Given that McGahn literally quit rather than help the president in what McGahn believed was obstruction of justice, it's going to be a challenge for Barr to justify why DOJ found the evidence insufficient.'

lionheart · 18/04/2019 17:08

"The President's efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests."

lionheart · 18/04/2019 17:08

“The investigation established several individuals affiliated with the Trump Campaign LIED to the Special Counsel, and to Congress about their interactions with Russian-related individuals...Those lies MATERIALLY IMPAIRED the investigation of Russian interference.”

“This is the end of my presidency. I’m fucked.”

Exactly Roussette!!! This is what's pissing me off so much! It's obvious that what Mueller meant was 'We're not making a prosecutorial decision on collusion or obstruction because we're leaving it up to the DoJ as per normal SC procedures.' Barr et al are spinning it as "We're not making a prosecutorial decision because there was no collusion/obstruction".

I swear to God I'm beginning to think that Scrotus is the real "Teflon Don" instead of John Gotti. It's all layers upon layers upon layers of minions with a slathering of quid pro quo and a sprinkle of blackmail. Oh, and a pinch of witness tampering.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/04/2019 17:16

Although it probably won't happen, remember that impeachment doesn't have to be based on an actual criminal indictment. It can be based on 'behaviour that would rise to the level of 'high crimes and misdemeanors'.

I'm outta here for a but. Getting ready to leave on holiday and I need to start getting in the right spirit. Some shopping should do the trick! Love retail therapy

Roussette · 18/04/2019 17:16

I would love to know what Mueller is thinking at this moment in time. Hopefully he will get his chance when he testifies. Now THAT will be worth watching...

Roussette · 18/04/2019 17:17

Have a nice break Across.

Sun is shining here and our garden is looking lovely, I'm back out there over Easter!

Page 291: "Hicks saw the President shortly after Sessions departed and described the President as being extremely upset by the Special Counsel's appointment. Hicks said that she had only seen the President like that one other time, when the Access Hollywood tape came out."

Roussette · 18/04/2019 17:34

The special counsel wrote about how the President’s public comments can be considered as obstruction efforts because of his power.

"While it may be more difficult to establish that public-facing acts were motivated by a corrupt intent, the President’s power to influence actions, persons, and the events is enhanced by his unique ability to attract attention through use of mass communications. And no principle of law excludes public acts from the scope of obstruction statutes. If the likely effect of the acts is to intimidate witnesses or alter their testimony, the justice system’s integrity is equally threatened.
Although the series of events we investigated involved discrete acts — e.g. the President’s statement to (James) Comey about the (Michael) Flynn investigation, his termination of Comey, and his efforts to remove the special counsel — it is important to view the President’s pattern of conduct as a whole. That pattern sheds light on the nature of the President’s acts and the inferences that can be drawn about his intent.”

Surely this is incriminating? How can all the Repubs be crowing about Don the Con's innocence?

Off to read some stuff. Smile

The WH and Toady Barr obviously knew that the reaction and response to the report would be exactly what it has been so I'm not so sure that they have gained anything from all the smoke and mirror moves over the last few weeks. It may be a holiday weekend but the news channels and other media are going to be dissecting the beejeezus out of it! I don't think this weekend's golf is going to be as carefree as Dumpy would hope.

PerkingFaintly · 18/04/2019 17:50

It's damning, isn't it?

At least the bits I've read so far.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2019 18:21

I've been following that CNN piece, Roussette. Very murky indeed,

PerkingFaintly · 18/04/2019 18:27

How can all the Repubs be crowing about Don the Con's innocence?

What else could they say? "He's a mob godfather and we're all going down in flames?"

Not just Don the Con, but Don the Don.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2019 18:35

I don't think he's electable in 2020.

Obstruction failed because aides refused
Mueller's team said obstruction by the president failed because others refused to "carry out orders".

It states: "The President's efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests."

And details lots of times his aides just plain ol' ignored his orders.Grin

Mueller report descriptions of Trump telling aides to do things to interfere with the probe and them not listening is a microcosm of what takes place weekly at WH - Trump orders aides to do things, they walk out of meetings and look at each other and don’t follow directives...
