To be annoyed at woman from DofE car crash?

Whatever we think about Prince Phillip and his driving, the accident happened and two ladies were unfortunately hurt.

However, I am watching This Morning and getting some level of rage about the clear compo grabbing attitude of this lady! Crashes happen every day and she has no need to be splashed across every news paper and programme because she wants an apology!

The Royal Family have even said they have tried to be in touch but not getting a response. What does she want?!

I don’t normall read the Sun, but am checking on line to see if LuLu story is running as I’m sure most of the readers of this thread are. I’m sure that doesn’t make us scum.

I did have a thought about Emma Fairwesther. Where was the tv show filmed? How was she in so much pain, but could travel there and tell her story? Having broken a number of bones myself (some serious and requiring surgery), no way could I travel a distance nor be coherent (pain meds).

Presuming she’s off work and will be collecting sick leave as she can’t esrn during her recovery. Yet she’s being paid for this? Will these payments be taken into consideration for the state paying sick leave covering the same time frame?

CantWaitToRetire · 22/01/2019 13:45

@shecamefromgreece I don't read the Sun myself, and I don't dispute a lot of the content is crap, as is that of a lot of tabloids (look at the Daily Fail for example). My mother is a sweet little 82 year old woman who gets the paper once a week for the tv mag and crosswords/puzzles and I resent her being called a 'despicable moron', so thanks for that.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 22/01/2019 13:46

Really intrigued about Lulus story now...

Anapurna · 22/01/2019 13:46

She is claiming she will not recover from her broken wrist ever ever ever. Is she an orthopaedic surgeon now as well?

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 22/01/2019 13:51

If someone is happy to finance The Sun despite what they did, I have no qualms whatsoever about judging them.

Crosswords and TV magazines are available everywhere without resorting to buying that indefensible rag.

Ladymargarethall · 22/01/2019 13:52

shecamefromgreece haven't.you a more recent example to justify your hatred of the Sun?

CantWaitToRetire · 22/01/2019 13:58

I'll ask my mum to stop buying it immediately. I'm sure the withdrawal of her 70p on a Saturday will make the newspaper 'go under' straight away.

Lulu - they may have to sell your story to another paper because the Sun is done for!

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 22/01/2019 13:59

shecamefromgreece haven't.you a more recent example to justify your hatred of the Sun?

No, because I don’t read it. Why do I need a more recent example? Is the Hillsborough example not damning enough? Does it not matter now because it happened some years ago?

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 22/01/2019 14:01

Of course it won’t make it ‘go under’. That’s a silly thing to say.

It’s a moral issue. What they did was indefensible. Hence, I’d never give them a penny, and I do think less of people who happily do so.

Whisky2014 · 22/01/2019 14:06

Lets move on from this bunfight.

Ladymargarethall · 22/01/2019 14:09

I don't read the Sun either, but most of the journalists who were on it then have probably retired, and for all I know it could be a very different paper now.

CantWaitToRetire · 22/01/2019 14:12

Calling every reader a despicable moron is a silly thing to say, but hey ho.

Your hatred should be directed at Kelvin Mackenzie, the editor at the time who has made a career of publishing horrendous comments that have proven untrue. Fortunately his contract got suspended two years ago.

Anyway, moving on...I've had another search, and still can't see any sign of Lulu's story appearing, so the wait goes on.

ajandjjmum · 22/01/2019 14:15

Sadly we're not all as morally upright as your good self SheCame. Or maybe happily as far as The Sun is concerned......

wigglypiggly · 22/01/2019 14:30

If the passenger owes money to someone then won't it come out of her compo and all the money she's been paid from the media she's sold her story to.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 22/01/2019 14:30

Snark at me all you like. I know where my line in the sand is. I have friends who were at that game, and I’ll never forgive The Sun’s shameful behaviour.

Write me off as a ‘do-gooder’ by all means. It’s irrelevant to me, and it won’t change how I feel.

We all choose which moral issues are salient to us and which we choose to defend. This happens to be one of mine.

Whisky2014 · 22/01/2019 14:32

Oh give it a rest.
Stop derailing the thread, its not about who reads the sun or what anyone thinks of them.

Mumberjack · 22/01/2019 14:35

If it was me I’d milk it (albeit wouldn’t make any false claims about the extent of my injury). I’d be raging at the sheer amount of people who are desperate to absolve him of any blame purely because of his standing.

badlydrawnperson · 22/01/2019 14:36

How about this for a more recent example -
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-10802491

Sun and the Mail in one go.

LakieLady · 22/01/2019 14:44

Is it silly that I’m worried what my work colleagues will think over me being in court and the attack?

Aww, Lulu, if your colleagues are nice people they will have nothing but sympathy for you and want to support you. If they're not nice people, they can fottfsofatfos.

I hope this helps you to start moving on, Lulu. Flowers

ittakes2 · 22/01/2019 14:45

I'm not particularly a big fan of the DofE and I am surprised he is driving but I agree she is being unreasonable - going to press is ridiculous.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 22/01/2019 15:00

Oh give it a rest.

Yes, Miss. Sorry, Miss.

frompampastobroadway · 22/01/2019 15:02

Crikey is all I can say really!

Whisky2014 · 22/01/2019 15:22

Yawn

LuluBellaBlue · 22/01/2019 15:31

Just to keep you updated, it’s not going in tomorrow’s paper now as apparently there’s further info to gather (stated by the journalist) ..... I have no idea who / what but I guess it’s a reasonable assumption to make that perhaps I’m not the only one who’s been treated like this..... will update as and when I know more x

samphireaidee · 22/01/2019 15:42

goodness me! thanks for the update anyway.
