To be annoyed at woman from DofE car crash?

Whatever we think about Prince Phillip and his driving, the accident happened and two ladies were unfortunately hurt.

However, I am watching This Morning and getting some level of rage about the clear compo grabbing attitude of this lady! Crashes happen every day and she has no need to be splashed across every news paper and programme because she wants an apology!

The Royal Family have even said they have tried to be in touch but not getting a response. What does she want?!

If I was caused a minor car accident (and yes this was minor, she broke her wrist she didn't have a severe spinal injury and brain damage) I would apologise profusely at the time and feel terrible. I wouldn't phone them afterwards to apologise again and make big gestures. Why does she think he should just because he is royalty?

Presumably she's expecting the Queen to turn up on the doorstep with a bunch of flowers?
She's sounding like she's milking it for all it's worth; not surprised that her friend's distancing herself from it all.

RomanyRoots · 21/01/2019 11:07

I like the Royal family and think they have a good purpose, but dofE shouldn't be driving, let alone another brand new car, that he's still driving without a seat belt.

I'm not surprised she has not heard anything, they live by their own rules.

ArnoldBee · 21/01/2019 11:07

Stealth - yes that is an apology from a posh person!

ilovemilton · 21/01/2019 11:07

Lulu
Please tell!

It's not the lack of apology that's problematic here it's the fact that the palace released a statement strongly implying that someone had spoken directly to the injured parties which patently wasn't true.

When that lie was delivered to preserve the character of the person responsible its difficult to imagine how someone wouldn't find it galling.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 21/01/2019 11:08

I actually thought she looked visibly shaken.

It wasn’t a fender-bender, he flipped a fecking Range Rover! I’ve had a horrific car smash and it stays with you. She described the smoke in the car and that gave me chills. I got the impression that she was shocked, hurt and upset. Plus she also said the only medical treatment she’d had was for her arm. At 50mph ish why wasn’t her neck and back checked?

notacooldad · 21/01/2019 11:08

I haven't seen this on television reports, only on social media and websites.
It seems that she has a broken wrist and wants an apology.
Surely after a car accident nobody issues an apology for insurance reasons. If I have been in an accident ( a while a go) you didn't get in touch with the other party, that's what the insurance company do.
Us this different?

FilledSoda · 21/01/2019 11:08

Lulu ?
Really ? Grin

BirdieInTheHand · 21/01/2019 11:09

My (very posh) grandmother always used to say remember me to x/y/z. It literally means let that person know they are in our thoughts.

VoteForPedrosLlama · 21/01/2019 11:09

We're all ears (or should that be eyes) Lulu

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2019 11:09

I thought as much.
If anyone else says "please remember me" it usually means they're dying!

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2019 11:10

Birdie I do believe you as I've come across this before clearly but it does sound like the total opposite of "you're in our thoughts"

notacooldad · 21/01/2019 11:11

If anyone else says "please remember me" it usually means they're dying!
Not always!

abbsisspartacus · 21/01/2019 11:11

I lost my sympathy when she ran to the papers, she saw him driving along and didn't slow down she wasn't driving defensively, that road is notorious for accidents because of the bad sightlines (Not the right word but help!) From people pulling out of the estate there has been more than one accident there this one just happens to involve the duke of Edinburgh still they have cut the speed limit now so that's one thing hopefully this won't happen again

And no he probably won't give up his licence it's one of the few things he can do for himself old people can be independent cantankerous people (looking in the mirror here) even the queen can't control him she never could

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 21/01/2019 11:12

Yes she's after compo or a new car imo

Moneypenny007 · 21/01/2019 11:12

Surely an apology could be taken as admitting guilt...

abbsisspartacus · 21/01/2019 11:12

Remember me to your mom usually means say hello to your mom for me let her know I'm thinking of her it's said all the time here

diddl · 21/01/2019 11:12

To be remembered to someone-don't you have to know them??

ilovemilton · 21/01/2019 11:13

So the RF have sent well wishes then...

Royal family are handling this appallingly - where's their PR?

They should have apologised even is if a non apology but better than the bizarre thing they said which is not understandable to a normal person
Made nice with them somehow so that they didn't go down the sadface route
Also
Not let Prince Phillip be seen driving again within a couple of days

Rights or wrongs they know it will be in the news someone should have handled this and made it go away, as is it has turned into something that is still in the news and that is the last thing they want

It's all very odd.

macaroniandpizza · 21/01/2019 11:14

Wow :O lulu do you know her irl? It seems every news site has her featured atm

bridgetreilly · 21/01/2019 11:15

Aprilshowers, that's my understanding as well.
