Does anyone else have 'the chair' in their bedroom?

You know, the chair? The chair where worn but not ready to go in the wash clothes go because it feels weird hanging them back up if they're not clean?

Then the pile of clothes gets so big you can no longer see the chair. Then when you crack and de-clothe the chair you find things you'd totally forgotten about?

Or is this just me? Am I the only slovenly one?

I hate being in a bedroom in a holiday let that is Chair-less. I have to re-arrange the furniture. My Chair at home is a rather nice late Victorian dining chair, one of four dotted in bedrooms. (My SIL was throwing them out, then thought she'd quite like them back when the seats were re-covered.)

UncleFailBOOT · 07/01/2019 23:01

I also have 'the banister' like Rainbows. A little one outside the bedroom. My clothes are hung on that until they are ready to be put in the wash

I would do this, but where would I put towels to air dry? Isn't that what a banister is there for?

PookieDo · 07/01/2019 23:02

I don’t leave any clothes out because I don’t want the cat to sleep on them. I may perhaps leave PJ’s on the floor for a day or so but I just wash it or put it back in a drawer.

DC have floordrobes

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/01/2019 23:03

I've successfully weaned myself from "the chair". I have a small shelf in the wardrobe that holds one set of part worn clothes. I make a point of completely clearing it every Saturday morning where the stuff either gets worn there and then, hung up if clean enough or put in the laundry/washing machine. I have 20 minute cycle on my new washing machine and DH does all the ironing... ;o

I basically Marie kondo-d my clothes before I'd heard of her. I'm about to do it again though as I have some drawers that I haven't even opened in 4 months and it's not my summer stuff as that is packed away under the bed.

Flusteredwintertime · 07/01/2019 23:03

Didn't have one until recently, I used to just chuck everything on the floor and sort it out later but then Xmas came and I stored presents on top of my wardrobe and needed a chair to reach so grabbed a dining chair and haven't bothered to bring it down again! Quite enjoy it being there as my beds high up so it's easier to sit on there to get dressed (instead of either sitting on the floor or leaning against the bed) and yes it had become the dumping ground for clothes too

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 07/01/2019 23:04

DH has the chair. I have the floordrobe.

zen1 · 07/01/2019 23:04

We have the chair exactly as you describe, but haven’t seen it for months!

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/01/2019 23:06

I got rid of the chair completely as I don't like an empty chair. Despite being otherwise completely level headed, I have the image of waking up and seeing someone sitting in it and it gives me the creeps. If I'm staying in a hotel etc I either have to put stuff on the chair or push it under the desk.

nojellybabies · 07/01/2019 23:08

Yes. It’s not a chair. It’s The Chair.
How come we all have one but it’s the same Chair?
All a bit Blair Witch to me.

LesLavandes · 07/01/2019 23:10

Just moved house. The top of my double packing boxes is my new chair😊

speakout · 07/01/2019 23:10

No, if stuff is clean enough to be worn again they go back in the wardrobe.
If they are dirty they go in the laundry basket.
I don't have a half way house.
I may wear a cardigan for a few hours, and not wear it again for a month.
Does it sit in a pile on a chair all that time?

HedgehogPoo · 07/01/2019 23:11

I have such a Chair and guessed exactly what this thread would be about not smug at all.
Sometimes I imagine that there may even be a dead body buried below the clothes (mostly there for repair or alteration - is it possibly to stretch waistbands a few sizes?) and one day, he will be uncovered. It's definitely a 'he' as it's going to be my old manager. Happy thoughts!

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/01/2019 23:12

Does it sit in a pile on a chair all that time?

No, it sits there for 6 months, is then rediscovered at which point it either doesn't fit, is out of fashion, or needs a wash.... :o

JohnCRaven · 07/01/2019 23:17

I wish I had room for a chair!! It's a tall thin chest of drawers (Ikea Malm) and stuff perches.

MulticolourMophead · 07/01/2019 23:19

I don't have a chair, I have a small basket. Keeps it all down to a minimum. Worn items that need to be hung go into one side of my wardrobe.

LadyBathory · 07/01/2019 23:23

Oh forgot that I also have the cot too when I’m not pushing the clothes pram to less convent places in my house with different degrees of worn clothes.

I have The cot, The cot that should riside my currently co sleeping daughter -due a series of its not the right time and teething- is filled half and half.

Half is taken up by a hilarious and dangerous blue penguin washing basket that was meant to have DD teddies in.

And the other side is a delightful mix of all degrees of dirty clothes and a special collection of toddler dangers items including and not limited to The lamp, cable etc

......Just just tru not to think about aThem.....

LadyBathory · 07/01/2019 23:24

Damn *Try

PickAChew · 07/01/2019 23:24

DH dumps his on the floor.

Doubletrouble99 · 07/01/2019 23:24

LadyBathory · 07/01/2019 23:24

chocatoo · 07/01/2019 23:27

I too have (an empty) chest at the bottom of the bed for this purpose. It spills over onto the unit by the window...

homebirds · 07/01/2019 23:27

A chair, a chest of drawers, a dressing table stool and a blanket box. Haven't opened wardrobe or drawers for months!!!
