Does anyone else have 'the chair' in their bedroom?

You know, the chair? The chair where worn but not ready to go in the wash clothes go because it feels weird hanging them back up if they're not clean?

Then the pile of clothes gets so big you can no longer see the chair. Then when you crack and de-clothe the chair you find things you'd totally forgotten about?

Or is this just me? Am I the only slovenly one?

We have reinstated the chair after a long absence. It is temporarily downstairs however so I am using the laundry basket edge which is unsatisfactory for reasons PPs have outlined.

It is the chair of hell, much like our drawer of hell and cupboards of hell and in fact, several baskets of hell.

We have way too much crap but I'm on a post-Christmas 'let's sort this shit out' and have got rid of the contents of one of the baskets. I feel quite proud desperately not making eye contact with all the other piles of STUFF

Iwanttobeagranny · 09/01/2019 19:50

In our bedroom we have a Lazyboy (confiscated from teenager because it vibrates through the whole house), an Ikea coffee table, a very nice, and large, about 1m square, linen footstool (standing on it's end) and the piece de resistance, a Babydan playpen (used as a room divider for the dog beds)...these are all my 'chairs' and they are all needed because I am unable to get access to the wardrobe because of all the stuff in the room.
If anyone is thinking of getting a 'chair', I can thoroughly recommend the playpen, it's capacity is huge.

I have a large log basket! No logs, just lost bras and once worn jeans and tops.

borntobequiet · 09/01/2019 20:29

I have the Back of the Door and the Knobs on the Chest of Drawers (useful for bras, though they look a bit sad dangling down, and the cat sometimes attacks them). Oh, and the chair. It’s a real Lloyd Loom!

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 09/01/2019 20:55

I thought you were going to talk about a chair to DTD! Grin

manicmij · 09/01/2019 21:18

Couldn't live without the chair and the therapy derived from clearing it every few weeks.

Rita2u · 09/01/2019 21:20

Floordrobe here too 🙌

Hushabyelullaby · 09/01/2019 21:29

I have the chair, it's home to random scarves (chiffon type rather than woolly), and as you say worn clothes that are still good for another wear.

bubblegumunicorn · 09/01/2019 21:29

I used to when I was a teenager but I have slowly phased to putting on the floor to finally straight in the washing machine I now over wash my clothes I don’t think that’s better!

Sissyjd · 09/01/2019 21:33

Lol yes its a 70s peacock wicker chair...looks decorative and arty with various items strewn over it.

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 09/01/2019 21:34

Yes it's a stool though for me. One in two separate rooms each. One exactly that, the other a mix of those kinda clothes plus my special vintage pieces like coats etc or worn once or looked at that can get hung back up but I haven't yet. So I've added a new dimension to it.

sayhellotothelittlefella · 09/01/2019 21:34

I have that chair!!! A few months ago my teenage DD talked about the rocking chair I used to have. I replied that I still have it - so she asked - no way! Where is it now? Umm where it’s always been Blush

Ohjustboreoff · 09/01/2019 21:34

I have a chair. The seat is for folded clean clothes, the back is for need an iron and the arms are for worn once and not dirty enough to wash! It’s a science.

Bumblebee39 · 09/01/2019 22:43

Don't know how people do the floordrobe I could not wear something that's been on the floor

I kind of have a height related cleaning scheme though, once something hits the floor it's either washed, cleaned or binned. It can be in almost any state so long as it does not touch the floor

Rita2u · 09/01/2019 22:54

Only a few items touch the floor, the rest balance on top 🙈

Spermysextowel · 09/01/2019 23:05

I too knew exactly what sort of Chair this would be about. Mine isn’t coded according to degrees of wear; it’s more about ease of hanging.
Trousers can be difficult if you don’t have the right hangers. Much easier to fold & drape. Equally work cardigans don’t merit full hanging status so they get lobbed on top of the stack of old duvets/sheets that will one day make it to recycling heaven.
My son had friends over for a gaming session on Saturday & asked if we still had a fold-up chair they could use. We don’t, so I offered him my bedroom Poang instead. He declined as he said Poang pile would just be transferred to my bed & then I’d have to get out a Li-Lo. Which is true.

Areyouhavingalaugh · 09/01/2019 23:36

We have the chair (a spare one from the one in the living room we don't have space for), the old dining room chair, an old cane ottoman with a dodgy lid and the back of the door. Variety of clothes on each from everyone which I have a periodic tidy of when I've lost stuff. It's usually there. If not, it's really lost...

Catsinthecupboard · 10/01/2019 00:12

My bedroom chair is a rocker recliner that we bought for dd when she was born so i could breastfeed comfortably.

It sometimes has such a pile of clothes on it that it slowly tips backwards.....

tolerable · 10/01/2019 02:22

BitOfFun · 10/01/2019 04:00

I have a chair, a chaise longue, AND the lid of the laundry basket.

I am banned from gym equipment.

Move2WY · 10/01/2019 04:21

I use the floor for those

TheLittleDogLaughed · 10/01/2019 05:28

TWO Chairs here! DH’s is the worst - it’s a large red armchair which he had for years before we met. I’ve never seen him sit on it because it’s piled with his clothes - mainly jeans and t-shirts. Mine is a more modest wicker chair which I do clear off fairly regularly.
