Hi everyone

I have lurgy and I feel miserable with it. I'm feeling rubbish and drowning in my own snot. Who else is sick? Remedies please! Grin

Is there any point at all in going to the dr? My parents are both really elderly and not long out of hospital and i don't think it's wise to go and see them with this.

Please don't go to the doctors and spread your germs.

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 28/12/2018 07:49

Me!! Woke up Xmas day with it. We were staying at dps house and I think my body went to itself 'you can relax now and mum will look after you' so just got ill.

JustABetterPlayer · 28/12/2018 07:52

Sadly so, there is no cure but chocolate.

Minniemountain · 28/12/2018 07:55

Lots of hot drinks to soothe your throat. Long showers for the steam. That's my plan for my lurgy. You can't make it go away any faster.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 07:58

I think the chocolate is making the snotters worse. Oh, will someone come and nurse me please and bring me lemsip Wink

Am finding ice cream gives better relief than hot drinks, no appetite anyway. The odd glass of medicinal sherry not unwelcome though Grin

cropcirclesinthefields · 28/12/2018 08:05

I have the dry cough and congestion, I think my body dropped all immune system shields and let all the germs in.

Please don't go and see a doctor, you can treat these symptoms with pharmacy meds, the colds are lasting 7 to 14 days this season. Lots of fluids, take paracetamol, and steam therapy with Vick or olbas oil.

Ticcinalong · 28/12/2018 08:13

I do find echinacea shortens the length of a cold if taken 3 times a day, and high strength vit c.
Other than that it’s hot lemon drinks, lemsip if needed, rest and some fresh air.

Me me. Started on Christmas eve, struggled through Christmas Day, but absolutely floored Boxing Day and yesterday. It's usual isn't it. You spend months running around organising Christmas, working and dealing with the kids, only to come crashing down once you have a break. I've had a particular crap run up with a lot going on and my cold seems to reflect that. I've barely been able to do anything without having a nap after. I have teenagers, so luckily I'm not running round after littles. They've been great at making brews and bringing strepsils as has DH.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:18

I won't go to the dr, too sick 😷

I have a dry cough that wakes me, drowning in snot, dry eyes and miserable and tired. My sister is on day 11.

In all honesty this is nothing compared to one December when I was 18. I had gastric flu twice. I just lay in bed too ill to read or watch TV and could only drink water. My parents had to unwrap my presents and just wave them at me as i smiled weakly.

Me. My first Christmas out of retail, went on leave on 14th, woke up on 15th with a splitting headache which heralded the start of a really vicious cold. I think my body went "finally, you've stopped for once & I can relax". I still have a cough and a hoarse voice though it seems to have lessened today. I keep necking broncho stop.

Minniemountain · 28/12/2018 08:21

This cold is better than the vomit once then feel like crap for 3 days virus I had at the start of the Christmas break Angry

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:21

I had just recovered when mum had a NYE party which some of my friends came to. I was well enough to serve food and drink but not have anything except water and weak tea with no milk.

m0therofdragons · 28/12/2018 08:25

Dd has been vomiting all night, every 10 to 40 minutes max since 8pm. She's 7 and seems to have shrunk. Just looks tiny (fairly little anyway). Praying the other 4 of us avoid it but it's unlikely isn't it.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:25

Now that I've eaten all the chocolate I am going to lay off dairy and see if that gets rid of the snotters. At what stages are you infectious? I want to see M&D but they are elderly and not well.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:27

Dragons you're all going down, go and get supplies while you still can.

I have a cold, the period from hell and I sliced my finger while cutting a lemon the other night so have a lovely stitched bandaged finger. I feel fabulous.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:35

My dogs are looking at me with a pleading stare. Will have to summon the moral fortitude to walk them at some stage. The annoying thing about this lurgy is that despite being very tired I can't stay asleep for long. About 4 hours at a stretch and then just dozing every time I sit down in the day. At least I am getting through the laundry, might as well. I don't have the attention span for TV atm.

OP posts:
pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:39

I have Lemsip, nurofen, echinachea, ivy thyme, oil of Olbas, strepsils and vitamin C in my cupboard. Going to take/use the lot.

OP posts:
pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:41

Hathaway is your body telling you to go back to retail do you think? Is broncho stop a cough mixture, may have cough mixture in the cupboard - good idea. Are you still sick?

WanderingTrolley1 · 28/12/2018 08:42

My whole family have been unwell this Christmas.

AngelOfDeathNix · 28/12/2018 08:46

I've had a flurry lurgy for two weeks now and still feel like crap. The snot and shivers have been replaced with coughing so hard I vomit and the inability to sleep for longer than a couple of hours which then means I have no energy to do anything and fall asleep in the day aswell, it really is the utter pits.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 08:51

Angel what's with the not sleeping for long nonsense? I'm exhausted but waking up and unable to get back to sleep. I look like shit and the puffy eyes are very delightful. I only have value tissues in the house and they are horrible.

me. had it for a month. a whole bloody month. sore throat, cough so bad I almost vom, v croaky voice, clammy, tired, feeling shit, and now free-running snot.
saw Dr after 3 weeks (my mate had had whooping cough and as I was no better, had to get checked). was told its an upper respiratory virus and to sit it out. the cough can last 6-10 weeks apparently, which is something to look forward to Xmas Grin
remedies: honey & lemon, echinachea, paracetomol and wine.
