Hi everyone

I have lurgy and I feel miserable with it. I'm feeling rubbish and drowning in my own snot. Who else is sick? Remedies please! Grin

I came down with a cold on Christmas afternoon. My body let me do all the crappy planning and shopping and cooking and when I finally got to sit down and start enjoying it all it decided that it’d let the germs take over.

Then on Boxing Day I was putting some food out and awkwardly carried some plates with bowls balanced on top in one hand and now I seem to have done some damage to my hand and it’s really painful.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 09:56

carrie ah yes, the crying. Proper sobbing yesterday when my adult DS said I spend a lot of time on MN. I said "is there nothing in this world that's just for me" Hmm

It's not fair, I could lie in bed or laze on the sofa but I'm not enjoying it. I have the attention span of a gnat.

Do we all have the same lurgy or is it a cornucopeia of colds - I know I shouldn't use words I can't spell.

Me too.

Temperature, shivers, the cough from hell, at least a gallon of snot produced.

I'm coming out the other side now, but after 24 days I should bloody think so!
I think the cough might linger on though. I still sound like I'm on 40 woodbines a day Confused

badlydrawncat · 28/12/2018 10:33

Checking in. We've come to Spain for Xmas, only the second time we've been able to spend time away from home at Xmas. Out for a walk in Xmas day I was really concerned that my asthma was really wheezy and I struggled to breathe. On Boxing day I realised why; sore throat, aching body, tired etc. Spent the whole day on the sofa watching movies - at least it was in the sun and I know I'm not getting COPD. Yesterday and today, the sore throat has gone and it's turned into a full-on snotty cold but at least I'm not as achy. Paracetamol and staying in bed until mid-morning then an easy stroll in the sun seems to help. Not looking forward to flying home tomorrow then back at work tomorrow evening though.

headinhands · 28/12/2018 11:05

I've swapped places with dh. He's now in full lurgy flow and has taken up the position I was in for 3 days. And I'm sitting where he was feeling sorry for him.

dementedpixie · 28/12/2018 11:11

Dh donated it to me. Feel like crap and can't breathe. Overdosing on sudafed nasal spray helps. Haven't done any visiting and had to have a takeaway for dh's birthday instead of going out for dinner

headinhands · 28/12/2018 11:18

Yes! I always feel worse when it's just stuck in my head. When the snot hits I usually feel a little less deathly but very tired.

pineapplebryanbrown · 28/12/2018 11:30

I feel like any tubes or cavities under my face (no medical training here) have been filled with snot and / or concrete. I'm very tired and bored and want to cry at how bad i feel for myself Grin

At least I don't have to look after small DC. I remember being ill and the kids being ill but no option, awful.

thigh the lack of sleep is the worst bit, I would feel better if I could sleep. I've tried sleeping upright, sleeping on the sofa, going to bed early/late....nothing works....! Added into the mix that I cannot take.any NSAIDs and have codeine to back up paracetamol, I then have the choice of either being spaced out and the side effects of codeine but being able to sleep for a bit, or go without, but not suffering side effects. I'm fed up of it all now!

GreyGardens88 · 28/12/2018 11:39

I'm alternating between snotty and blocked nose Confused but only seems like a mild cold

TheOrangeOwl · 28/12/2018 11:44

Yes here too, full of snot and a bad headache. Also very pregnant and being induced very soon so hoping this clears before then.

Anyone got any great remedies I can have whilst pregnant? Vaporub and paracetamol just aren't helping.

Hairbrushesatdawn · 28/12/2018 11:45

Me! I have all the infectionsSad throat, ear and chest.
I'm on my own and ds is going stir crazy being indoors, so I'm going have to get up and take him out.

Andromeida59 · 28/12/2018 11:57

My DP had it for a couple of weeks, I came down with it on Saturday. It seemed like my body was holding up so I could finish at work, get essays in. As soon as I did I had a cough, headache, aches and pains everywhere, sore eyes. Exhaustion beyond anything I've experienced in a long time. As of yesterday, my throat is swollen and my chest hurts when I breathe.
Slept for twelve hours and just showered so hoping to start picking up.

Hope you all recover swiftly xx

Norma27 · 28/12/2018 11:57

I couldn’t sleep either. Thought it was because I needed the loo but didn’t have the energy to get out of bed!

badlydrawncat · 28/12/2018 12:21

I seem to have stolen all of your sleep. I'm sleeping all night, which I never do and at any opportunity during the day. Sorry! You can have it all back tomorrow when I start a solid week of nights.

headinhands · 28/12/2018 15:36

I feel like any tubes or cavities under my face (no medical training here) have been filled with snot and / or concrete

Thank you! That's exactly it.

bigfluffy · 28/12/2018 16:24

Checking in! On day 14 here. Cough, sore throat and snot turned to sinusitis turned to chest infection. Only things making me feel more human were day nurse and sinus rinse 3x a day. Day 12 my breathing got worse and Dr SIL advised me to get antibiotics. Urgent care was packed.

Today I thanked baby Jesus that I'm feeling better. DH dryly replies "yes we're all thankful too". There was me thinking I was being a good patient.

bigfluffy · 28/12/2018 16:26

Sinus rinse is your friend here. Stuff of miracles.

OutPinked · 28/12/2018 16:28

Yep, just started with it today after DC started with it Christmas Eve. I feel like absolute death today, feels like my entire head is about to explode. I’d say it’s only the second cold I’ve had all year so have been relatively lucky.

Nothing really makes it feel much better. Just lots of hot drinks and rest.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/12/2018 16:30

Yes. Second streaming cold, cough, sore throat in about 6 weeks. Feel like utter shite. Clammy, snotty, gross. Pregnant so can’t bloody take anything and coughing makes my bump feel like it’s going to split in half.

myrtleWilson · 28/12/2018 16:41

Started on Boxing Day with epic hours and hours of sneezing and free running snot. Sneezing more or less gone but left with dry cough and wheezing from left over congestion.
During the day sensible me knows this is a cold. During sleepless nights, less sensible me convinces self wheezing = stridor and therefore lung disease of some nature OR because I'm a K-razy Kat my insomniac mind opts for coughing = heart failure
Am still here so "yay" 🎉
To add to my all round attractive state of hacking cough and wheezing I'm covered in Vics... how DH is restraining himself I'll never know

Olddognewtricks2019 · 28/12/2018 16:49

I’ve battled it since 3 December, flu and cough gave way to persistent cough that makes me baulk. Went to walk in centre yesterday to get it checked. Chest clear so just water and waiting it out Sad

UnfinishedSenten · 28/12/2018 17:55

Come down with it early hours of Boxing Day, was completely bed bound Wednesday and Thursday. Stupidly went to work today felt like I was going to collapse at any moment.
Tickling cough, headache, aches, dizziness, sensitive to touch and high temp.
Haven't slept properly in days I just feel awful and 3 young kids have caught it too Sad at least we made it past Christmas Day.
