Hi everyone

I have lurgy and I feel miserable with it. I'm feeling rubbish and drowning in my own snot. Who else is sick? Remedies please!

For the cough I'm taking benylin dry and tickly or something. It's not working, might as well drink tea. Mostly I'm just exhausted though now, really wiped.

Well have now spent 24 hours in pjs.

So far today I have managed to empty the dishwasher go back to bed,put a load of washing on,go back to bed,put washing in dryer,go back to bed,organise a quick picky tea for us and kids,go back to bed.

That and copious amounts of hot tea and lip balm. Oh and sprite til it's coming out of my ears due to very dry sore throat.

Still feeling really drained but hoping tomorrow I wake up feeling better

I've had a cough now for 2 weeks (amongst snot nose) and just when I think it's gone it comes back ☹️ I've had cough medicine and strepsils, I'm hoping its coming to the end now

I had it before Christmas, lasted longer than usual. My saviour was a sominex tablet each night, knocked me out like a sledgehammer. Thought the extra sleep would bring relief but it didn't. At least I didn't have to endure the night horrors.

What is it you took that made you sleep?and where can I buy it from??

My sleep is so bloody awful it's not helping with my energy levels during the day.
Concerned as back to work again Wednesday and am hectic fully booked busy right through till Saturday.
Not sure il manage it if u can't sleep properly.
I've had every opportunity to sleep during the day today but I just can't and it's driving me nuts.

I've started today cold, sore throat, losing voice. Always turns into some sort of laryngitis.....aargh. Happy new year! Meant to be at friends house tomorrow but dont know if its wise now to spread the germs. Sigh

Stop using mentholated products and cough suppressants - they only dry out your mucus membranes and make it more likely for you to end up with a lung infection. You need to make the mucus as thin as possible so you can cough it up. You don’t want thick bits of mucus sticking around in your body that you can’t cough out. Take pure guaifenesin or Robitussin brand name, an expectorant which is what you need. Steam with Eucalyptus not olbas oil, don’t use vicks etc or strepsils. Plain boiled sweets will do the same job but won’t give you a dry, barking cough or cause voice loss (which comes from drying out the mucosa, not a good idea!). Difflam mouth wash or spray for throat pain. Hot freshly squeezed lemon, grated ginger and honey for drinking. Ibruprofen if absolutely necessary. Chicken soup made with the carcass/bone broth. Loads of water, extra vitamin c etc.

Am thinking of setting up restorative home-made chicken soup delivery business. You heard it here first.

Could well franchise for local distribution or maybe have a Yiddisher Momma kitchenship that tracks the NHS flu map...where there’s phlegm, Auntie has the broth for you, delivery to your door in mug with your name. Tissues, OTC meds, hot toddy etc see reverse menu. Courtesy hug. Back rubs & dog walking available, enquire within.

I've got it too. Got MS as well so the lurgy has triggered crushing fatigue and stiff, wobbly legs. Haven't moved out of the house for four days now - I'd have cabin fever if I could summon the energy. Where does all the snot come from???? I feel like a human ectoplasm machine 😷🤢

@ArtificialArctophile - I don't understand either...SO much snot. How did it all fit in my head?

Universal I want soup, my dogs walked, house tidied and someone to say "there, there" and read me a story. Is that part of the service? I'd like a clear beef broth with won tons please. And a peeled orange popped into my mouth one segment at a time.

Benydril night cough syrup knocked me right out, didn't get up until 11am.

It's not snot, it's concrete that is slowly setting. My house is falling to bits as I don't have the strength to put anything away if it requires moving more than 6 inches.

Robitussin gets the snot out and avoids the concrete feeling. Someone moved the remote out of my reach last week. I deserved an olympic gold medal for being able to grunt and point at it, it was so hard to summon up the strength. I promptly fell asleep 5 minutes later.

Was starting to feel slightly better however the raging earaches just rocked up again and brought his friend headache/thump with him

Im so fed up of this crap cold. It's ruining all the things I've had planned over Christmas and New year and I feel like shite.

I've had this on and off since the beginning of December. Every time I think I'm over it a couple of days later I have a new symptom. This morning I have got the throat full of razor blades and feel spaced out. I've had the chills, sweats, cough, snotty nose, runny nose you name it but not altogether. It's like a new lottery ' what can we give tap this week to make her feel crap?'

I had two days of work as I didn't have the energy to go in but finished on the 14th and don't go back till the 7th so was hoping the rest would be working by now. I work with children who have all had it and don't think twice about sneezing into your eyeballs so it's no wonder I've got it

Off up to London tomorrow so hoping the fresh air will do me good.

Aww op your family sound lovely. Totally missing the point of the thread but I loved reading a few of your past stories.

Had the lurgy here too, now on week 3 loads better just have the cough and the sexy voice ( at least that's what I am telling myself)

As others have said, whatever this lurgy is will ebb and flow with symptoms - just when you think it's getting a bit better it hits with a vengeance again, delivering new delights and new assorted colours of snot and bogeys 😕

sorry tapdancingmum but mega hollow laugh at fresh air and London.... you have to give in to the undeniable fact that the lurgy will feed off the city centre germs and reinvent itself in a new form... (sorry)

My throat is so so sore.....what are you all using for that. My voice has gone 😔

Stocking up on Robitussin for getting rid of the mucus and Benadryl to sedate me at night, thanks pp’s. Worn out from vomiting after attempts to cough up mucus.

I had a sore throat, temperature, painful everything. I laid in bed from Thursday till yesterday. But I’m on the other side, I think.
Day and night nurse, people, go buy day and night nurse. 3 days and you’re as good a new.

I thought I'd escaped. Ds2 has been the snot goblin since before Christmas and DH went down with it properly on the 27th.
Two days ago ds2 sneezed into my mouth. I wonder if that was the trigger to push the viral load over the threshold because now I am ILL.
I ache all over, but no fever, I'm coughing up yellow go and aunt Flo has decided to visit. I don't think I'm going to be ringing in the new year, especially as we're hosting my parents tomorrow.
