To ask why you aren’t vegan

I’m not vegan , I know it’s good for the planet kinder to animals etc but it’s something I just can’t seem to get to grips with. I’ve been thinking about starting vegan January but I’m not sure. Thinking about my choices and it’s prevalence in the media has made me curious about others so tell me why aren’t you vegan? I think my main reason is convenience.

Mainly because all the vegan food I've tried tastes like shit!

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 16:59

What an odd question! I'm not vegan because I like what I eat.

Bluelady · 22/12/2018 16:59

I like cheese too much. Other than that it really wouldn't be an issue.

Singlenotsingle · 22/12/2018 16:59

It sounds good, but maybe veggie would be the way to go?

BadPolicy · 22/12/2018 17:00

I like meat, and my giving it up won't save the planet.

megletthesecond · 22/12/2018 17:00

I'd like to be, I'm a lapsed but still 95% veggie.
But I'm gluten free and haven't yet sussed out a manageable GF vegan diet. I've found a nice vegan GF pizza that I have at weekends though.
I'd like to be far more vegan when the dc's leave home and I can menu plan for just me.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 22/12/2018 17:01

Because I don't want to be?
I was vegetarian for 20 odd years. Now I'm not.

Thisonewilldo · 22/12/2018 17:01

I would love to be vegan but

a) can't cook and it seems like this would be kind of necessary
b) my DS has a severe peanut and tree nut allergies and I'm nor sure if lots of vegan dishes might be nut based?

Elllicam · 22/12/2018 17:01

I’m vegetarian but I like cheese.

Huntawaymama · 22/12/2018 17:02

I like meat and dairy and particularly cheese. I'm also a sheep farmer with high respect and care for animals. I also don't believe the world going vegan will save the planet. Oh and quorn and tofu taste awful

TheFlis12345 · 22/12/2018 17:02

I just enjoy eating meat and dairy too much!

Mammyloveswine · 22/12/2018 17:02

I like meat

Whereisthecoffee · 22/12/2018 17:02

I know it’s an odd question , I was a vegetarian for years I’ve also tried vegan I just always come back to meat. I’m just musing really as it’s a moral issue for me that I feel strongly about but never strongly enough to stick to for life

Id be worried about losing all my mates as it's such a pita to cook for vegans.

PinkHeart5914 · 22/12/2018 17:02

Bacon
Double cream
Cheese

PerfectPeony · 22/12/2018 17:02

I agree try vegetarian, lots of people can’t make the jump so go veggie.

I think it goes without saying why most people aren’t vegan. Meat is delicious.

I was veggie for about 10 years when I was younger but didn’t eat a well balance died, so was ill a lot. I think if you’re going to give up meat/ animal products you need to be knowledgeable about nutrition.

StoorieHoose · 22/12/2018 17:03

I like meat too much to turn even vegetarian. A life without mince and tatties is not a life I want to live

PerfectPeony · 22/12/2018 17:03

*diet

Thesearmsofmine · 22/12/2018 17:03

I like meat and cheese too much.

Purpleartichoke · 22/12/2018 17:03

I have experimented with going vegan or vegetarian. I really did try to get past the initial detox feelings, but ultimately discovered that I my body did not evolve to be vegan. I was getting sick and having horrible migraines no matter how much effort I made with proper nutrition on either diet. I know it works for some people, but I really wonder if there are genetic differences.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2018 17:03

I can’t be bothered and enjoy meat/dairy far too much.

Whereisthecoffee · 22/12/2018 17:03

I do also much prefer the taste of meat and dairy as much as I try to like the alternatives.

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 22/12/2018 17:03

Because meat tastes better than the alternatives.

But I do believe that I should be vegan, or vegetarian at least. So if there's a God, I may one day be called to account for why I persisted in doing something that I believed to be morally wrong. Any my response will be: "because it tasted nice." Xmas Blush

AwfulSomething · 22/12/2018 17:03

I love meat, fish and diary. I have IBS which flares up with too much fruit, some vegetables, pasta and bread.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2018 17:04

Big juicy medium rare steak.....mmmmmm. Yum.
