To ask if this is short for a man?

5"9? I can understand if you're 5"2 yourself, you won't think it's short, but what does the MNers over 5"7 think? I'm 5"7 myself.

I don’t think it matters if you get on with them.

I’m 5ft my partner is taller than 5ft9.

Rattinghat · 02/12/2018 15:57

Don't call me racist, but it depends on their heritage. 5/9 would be stunted in the Netherlands, but not in Mexico.

FitzChivalryFarseer · 02/12/2018 15:58

5’9” is the UK average height for a man so it cannot be short by definition.

UmSayWhat · 02/12/2018 15:58

I’m 5ft5 and my husband is 5ft7. It has never been a problem but I haven’t worn heels since we met!

TwiceMagic · 02/12/2018 16:01

It definitely depends on ethnicity. 5'4 is average for a man in the Philippines.

And I'd agree that actually liking someone matters more than their height.

In any case, kissing a man who is a similar height to you is much more convenient than kissing one much taller than you. Wink

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 02/12/2018 16:02

I don’t think it’s short. Why does it matter anyway?

Mumminmum · 02/12/2018 16:03

Very shallow question. YABU to even ask it.

Secretsquirrel101 · 02/12/2018 16:03

Hmm, don’t know really, I can’t think that it matters? I’m 5’8” and DP is probably only 5’10”, so not tall but it’s never really been something I’ve thought about.

Minniemountain · 02/12/2018 16:05

DH is 5ft 9. I'm 5ft 10. I don't think he's short.

KingsScorn · 02/12/2018 16:05

I wouldn't describe 5'9'' as short for a man - more average. My husband is 5'8'' (I'm 5'6'') and I wouldn't describe him as short - more like average (although perhaps shorter end of average range).

My dad was 5'6'' and I would describe that as short for a man but not unusually short.

I've got a friend who is 5'8'' and her husband is (at a guess) 5'6'' - never gets mentioned and it doesn't look unusual.

snowflakealert · 02/12/2018 16:05

No it's not short for a man, but if you are a slightly taller than average woman at 5'7", you will be taller than them if you're wearing high heels.

Thesearmsofmine · 02/12/2018 16:05

I don’t think it’s particularly short but I come from an short family(men and women).

I’m 5ft and my DH is 6ft 1 Grin

Laiste · 02/12/2018 16:06

DH is 5'10 and honestly he's rarely the tallest bloke around. Late teens/20 something lads these days seem to be REALLY tall!

ElainaElephant · 02/12/2018 16:06

No, it's not short

NotUmbongoUnchained · 02/12/2018 16:07

It’s quite average I think. I couldn’t go out with someone shorter than me though.

DragonMamma · 02/12/2018 16:08

I would say it’s relatively short. But my Father is 6’4 and my grandad was 6’2 so tall men were the norm for me and what I’d come to feel safer around.

I’m 5’8 so it wouldn’t work for me. My DH is 6’1 but all my exes have been between 6 and 6’5

Talith · 02/12/2018 16:09

My boyfriend is an inch taller than me at 5'8 and it's never remotely been an issue.

Rattinghat · 02/12/2018 16:11

Height is only really relevant if a man has Napoleon Syndrome.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 02/12/2018 16:11

UK average height for men was 5ft10in in 2014, so I don't think it's particularly short.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 02/12/2018 16:12

Oh and I'm 5ft8in and a partner being 1inch taller than me wouldn't bother me.

Talith · 02/12/2018 16:13

One of my favourite exes was shorter than me. Actually a couple of exes have been. I feel less well disposed towards the taller ones tbh Grin

bellinisurge · 02/12/2018 16:16

WTF?

Lockheart · 02/12/2018 16:22

It's about average in the UK.

DistanceCall · 02/12/2018 16:23

Why does it matter?

DistanceCall · 02/12/2018 16:25

Height is only really relevant if a man has Napoleon Syndrome

Hey, Napoleon Syndrome has its uses. Look at Napoleon - he GOT THINGS DONE Grin
