5"9? I can understand if you're 5"2 yourself, you won't think it's short, but what does the MNers over 5"7 think? I'm 5"7 myself.

There is no such thing as height when we r laying down 😉

RedSkyLastNight · 03/12/2018 11:31

I have 2 DC: DS is almost 6 foot and has growing still to do. DD looks to have reached her full adult height at just over 5 foot.

My mother constantly says "it's just as well they are that way round; it's more important for men to be taller than women". When I've challenged her as to why she's been unable to come up with anything other than "men like their wives to be shorter than them" (ironically DH is shorter than me).

My mother has a lot of what I consider to be outdated sexist notions, so I'd assumed this was just another - disappointing to read from this thread that they might not be so outdated.

I don’t know. Lying down activities are, in my experience, also slightly more convenient with someone of a similar height. Although once you’ve got to that point, you really don’t give a shit about height.

MrsKoala · 03/12/2018 11:53

Strangely enough my Dad said to me last night out of the blue that he hoped my DD grows up to be shorter than me (I doubt she will be) as it's horrible to have a woman taller than a man and it really puts ALL men off (er cheers dad - just pity all those lonely single tall models out there who men wouldn't go near Hmm ). I said I wouldn't want to date anyone who was put off by my height and I see being tall a good way of weeding those people out. Same as having small boobs - it's a great filter! Grin

SerenDippitty · 03/12/2018 12:40

I don't think it is "just a preference" as has been stated upthread. You might have a thing for dark haired men but that doesn't mean you'd turn down a fair haired man just because he's not dark haired or be embarrassed to be seen with him.

DryIce · 03/12/2018 14:21

The defensive reactions on this thread are odd, unless you think of "short" as an insult.

I'm 5'9, and yes I would consider a man my height fairly short. Not unattractive, or inferior, or worth less. Just ..short

Some parents are honestly so stupid and damaging to their offspring

The large number of women on this thread who think 5’ 9 isn’t short must be because it’s mostly women with short partners who have replied.
It’s not short if a man is 80 years old. It is if he’s 20.
I wouldn’t want to breed with any man lower than 6’ 4

JustHereForThePooStories · 04/12/2018 12:30

This just isn’t true. I’m 5’ 11” and, when I was young and moderately attractive, would nearly have to beat shorter men off with sticks. Lots of men absolutely have a thing for women who are taller than them.

Riiiight.

My mother constantly says "it's just as well they are that way round; it's more important for men to be taller than women".

My mother says that as well; she was delighted when my son got to 6 foot.

SerenDippitty · 04/12/2018 13:30

My brother is 5ft 7 and my lovely SIL is 6 foot. I'm so glad she didn't care that he 's short and he didn't care that she was tall. They have a beautiful son by the way well on the way to being a six footer.

blackteasplease · 04/12/2018 13:59

My ex was 5'8". I didn't find him short until he kept going on about it. Then I did.

Abby360 · 04/12/2018 14:21

I would find it short. I'm 5'6 and really like tall men. DH is 6'2 and exes have been between 6ft and 6'4. It's just a preference, nothing bad about saying you aren't into short men. Just as some men aren't into tall women, overweight women, skinny women...

irunlikeahipoo · 04/12/2018 14:31

It would be small for me
my DH is 6ft 4 and all my previous partners have been over 6ft
I did date a few guys years ago who have been around the 5ft 8 -9 in height but I just didn’t feel right to me
I like and fancy tall blokes

Oneinthegrave · 04/12/2018 14:53

I’m 5ft 7 DP is 5ft 5, he is very self concious about his height but it doesn’t bother me in the slightest

NotFeelingRight · 04/12/2018 16:15

My son is likely going to be small should I tell him to give up on life already?Grin

ElonMask · 04/12/2018 16:45

I think it is average, not tall by any means but not short either.

Lol at all the women who wouls reject Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jim Morrison, Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando etc etc as too short for them.

ElonMask · 04/12/2018 16:46

Paul Newman as well wouldn't cut the mustard :(

MissConductUS · 04/12/2018 16:56

And Tom Cruise. But I loathe him, so even if he was 6'4" I wouldn't give him the time of day.

randomchap · 04/12/2018 17:02

Surely if you find someone attractive you find them attractive. No need to get a measuring tape out to find out if they reach the minimum dating height.

The ex sounds like a controlling dickhead, I'd recommend avoiding dickheads

StripySocksAndDocs · 04/12/2018 17:07

Tom Cruise is allegedly short, but I think he is 5 ft 6 (or 7)
He absolutely isn't that tall. 5' 5" I think he's supposed to actually be.

5' 7" is his pretend height. Regardless of his height is still got a personality less attractive than a hemmorhoid on a baboon's arse.

MsHopey · 04/12/2018 18:33

I'm 5foot8 and my DH is 5foot9.
I can't walk in heels anyways so that's never been a problem for me.
He's an amazing husband and father to our DS, absolute love of my life, if i let height stop me from being with him then I'd have been shallow missing out big time.

Pinkprincess1978 · 04/12/2018 18:50

My DH is shorter than that. Does it matter? Short is relative to those around you. I'm 5.4 so short but both my in laws are under 5foot now so to them I feel tall 😂

formerbabe · 04/12/2018 18:54

I wouldn’t want to breed with any man lower than 6’ 4

Weird.
