To ask if this is short for a man?

5"9? I can understand if you're 5"2 yourself, you won't think it's short, but what does the MNers over 5"7 think? I'm 5"7 myself.

OP posts:
JustDanceAddict · 02/12/2018 16:27

ITs on the shorter side, but not that short.

explodingkitten · 02/12/2018 16:28

Is it important?

brizzledrizzle · 02/12/2018 16:28

They'd be shorter than me and shorter than my 15 year old so yes, it's short IMO.

Dahlietta · 02/12/2018 16:32

A quick google reveals that it's the UK average height for a man. I don't really understand what you're asking. Is it about dating?

KatherinaMinola · 02/12/2018 16:33

I think UK average is 5'10 these days so it's on the shorter side of average here. Globally it varies!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 02/12/2018 16:33

My friend is 5 foot 9 and her husband is 5 foot 6. She teases him about it but she wouldnt change a thing about him.

Cachailleacha · 02/12/2018 16:34

It's average height for a man in the UK so no, not short. Why are you only asking the opinions of tall women? If you prefer a man to be at least three inches taller than you than that's your preference, but it doesn't mean any man measuring less than that is short! Confused

Newnyham · 02/12/2018 16:35

I'm 5"9 (and female) tbh I find that I'm normally the same height as most men. Some are obviously taller but a lot are also shorter, especially if you're somewhere quite diverse.

My DH is an inch or two taller. I quite like being pretty much the same height.

masktaster · 02/12/2018 16:39

I'm 5"7, my partner is somewhere around 5"8/5"9. I'd call it around average for a man?

Personality matters more anyway

silentcrow · 02/12/2018 16:39

There's an inch difference between me and my DH; he's 5ft7. It's perfect. I never have to move the driver's seat, never get a crick in my neck, and he never puts anything out of reach. Wouldn't swap him for the world, it's a huge advantage to be a similar height as far as I'm concerned.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/12/2018 16:47

5’9” is the UK average height for a man so it cannot be short by definition

THIS ^

My DH is 5'5" I'm 5'3"

MrsKoala · 02/12/2018 16:47

I think it depends on the age bracket (and ethnicity). My dad is 5ft 8in and in his group of friends he's taller than most and shorter than a few. He's in his 70s and I am usually taller than the men from this generation that I meet (i'm 5ft 10) and they often comment on how tall I am, but when I meet younger men I am usually shorter than them by a little and they never seem to think i'm grotesquely/freakishly tall like older people seem to. When I go to Spain and Italy I am towering above the men and am seen as a giant (people stared and pointed at me in Milan) but when I worked in a secondary school the UK 6th form boys were usually all 6ft + and I felt short for the first time ever. It's all context dependant.

cheesemongery · 02/12/2018 16:48

I think it's about average. It wouldn't be a problem for me, I'm 5'8 though and would prefer somebody taller than me if only slightly.

DS who is 6'5 on the other hand... Grin who knows where he came from?!

BreconBeBuggered · 02/12/2018 16:48

Lots of disadvantages to having a partner who's significantly taller . . 5' 9 sounds kind of average. I certainly know lots of shorter men. It's not a noticeable kind of height.

MrsKoala · 02/12/2018 16:51

My first husband was 5ft 11in and exMil was obsessed with me not wearing heels and making him 'look short'. Neither of us gave a shit. I wore heels that made me 6Ft 1.

OrcinusOrca · 02/12/2018 16:52

It's fine. Not tall but reasonably sized. I'm 5'8.5" and my DH is an inch shorter. I would like him to be taller and strapping so I felt less lanky, but we can't have it all Smile

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/12/2018 16:53

Why does it matter?

Short is shorter than me. Tall is taller than me.

Me is whoever is speaking.

I am 5'5" DH is 5'7" so neither of us is short. Some of you are tall though Smile

grumiosmum · 02/12/2018 16:54

YABU.

And no it isn't.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 02/12/2018 16:55

“Very shallow question.”

Only if you think “short” is an insult

Worriedmum2468 · 02/12/2018 16:58

short imo and im 5ft3

Ellie56 · 02/12/2018 16:58

Why is it even relevant? I am 5 '6 and DH is 5' 4. Height has never been an issue for us and we have been married for over 30 years. Hmm

lovetherisingsun · 02/12/2018 17:00

Mine is 5'8. I don't care about his height.

lovetherisingsun · 02/12/2018 17:02

Hey, Napoleon Syndrome has its uses. Look at Napoleon - he GOT THINGS DONE

Random fact - apparently Admiral Nelson was shorter than Napoleon. My mind blew on that one.

Snowdrifthill · 02/12/2018 17:02

OP did ask MNers over 5' 7", so at 5' 8", yes a bit short, but not overly. It wouldn't be a deal breaker.

CraftyGin · 02/12/2018 17:05

My son is 5’6” and amazingly he has found someone to marry him, and she’s a bit taller.
