To banish cat from the house?

At night.

Have rehomed the bloody thing in the garage.

We haven't had a litter tray indoors for over a year. Had an outside one for a while which she didn't use so I removed it. For the last few weeks, when it's been wet outside, she has been shitting in her bed. Two mornings in a row now I've come down to it.

I don't want an indoor tray again so have locked her in the garage with tray and food where she will go every night over the winter from now on.

DC think IABU but they're not cleaning up the shit and having to do two boil washes, one for bed, one to clean machine!

I think you are being awful. Not giving her a litter box inside??? Why bother even having a cat? You are treating her terribly.

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 00:31

Uh huh Hmm.

AGHHHH · 30/11/2018 00:32

Have you considered an enclosed indoor tray? It's what I asked my housemate to get when her litter tray constantly left the house smelling of cat shit... In the kitchen.

MrsStrowman · 30/11/2018 00:32

Why would you not give her a litter tray? Because you don't want to clean up after your pet? You trained her to use one then changed your mind. Poor cat.

tissuesosoft · 30/11/2018 00:32

I think that’s an awful way to treat a family pet. My old family cat wouldn’t go outside in the rain so had a litter tray inside- no big deal. Why do you have a cat if you don’t want to care for her as part of the family?

GlitterNails · 30/11/2018 00:33

Or... give her a litter tray back? It’s completely your fault she used her bed. Mine go outside to the toilet but I still keep two trays so if it’s wet or cold they can use them.

Plus cats feel pretty much the same cold we do. I wouldn’t put her in a garage unless you’d be happy in there temperature wise.

Rachelle3211 · 30/11/2018 00:33

You should re-home her to someone who actually wants a cat, not the freaking garage for the winter. You are being cruel.

empmalswa · 30/11/2018 00:33

You are making your cat sleep in the garage rather than give them a litter tray? WTF

AGHHHH · 30/11/2018 00:33

And I agree with all of the above. It's quite mean.

tabulahrasa · 30/11/2018 00:34

TBH I think if you’re not willing to have a litter tray, then a cat isn’t the right pet to get.

And yes, I think YABU to make a cat sleep in a garage in winter when it’s used to being inside and wants to be inside.

Katedotness1963 · 30/11/2018 00:34

You're leaving her in the garage in the middle of winter? If she has no litter tray in the house where do you expect her to go?

SylviaAndSidney · 30/11/2018 00:35

so have locked her in the garage with tray and food where she will go every night over the winter from now on.

If true that’s awful.

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 00:35

Yep, had an enclosed one with a filter. It still stank! Not going back to that again.

She naturally stopped using the indoor one when she was about a year old which I was delighted about. Put the outside one out for fear of her crapping in neighbours gardens but she never used it and neighbours never complained. Think she does it in adjoining forested area but now decided she doesn't want to get paws muddy.

You do not deserve to have your cat. You are beyond unreasonable. The poor animal. She may have some medical condition or be stressed about something and you don’t even care. Bring the poor creature back in and give her a litter tray. Or rehome her to someone who actually deserves a pet.

ImNotKitten · 30/11/2018 00:36

Wtf?! Please rehome her to a good home.

chickhonhoneybabe · 30/11/2018 00:37

YABU!

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 00:37

Temp not too bad at the moment. Have made cardboard structure with pillows in there.

Why is that so bad?

OP posts:
empmalswa · 30/11/2018 00:37

now decided she doesn't want to get paws muddy

Or perhaps there is a reason she suddenly can't hold on. Maybe have her vet checked? A suddenly change in behaviour should always be investigated. Not banished to the garage ffs

empmalswa · 30/11/2018 00:38

Why don't you go sleep in it and see Hmm

AGHHHH · 30/11/2018 00:38

This is why I'd never get a cat and why anyone who doesn't want to take on the full responsibility of having a pet shouldn't have one. I don't even like cats very much but can still recognise that this is cruel.

chickhonhoneybabe · 30/11/2018 00:38

If it’s the smell of the litter tray that’s the problem, Wooden cat litter doesn’t smell as bad I’ve found.

Calvinsmam · 30/11/2018 00:39

Wtf?
You can’t take her toilet away and then complain she goes to the toilet somewhere else.

Angharad07 · 30/11/2018 00:40

Oh ffs. I’ve owned cats. The cat is warm and dry inside the garage, it’s not animal cruelty in the slightest. My cat is a night cat and goes out all night and stays out in all weather conditions to my knowledge (His choice- if he comes back looking sorry for himself then we let him in).

HildaZelda · 30/11/2018 00:40

Wow. Are you actually for real? How would you like it if your DP or DH told you he was taking your toilet away and from now on you could sleep in the garage at night?
Your kids are right. You're horrible.

Give the poor cat to someone who'll actually want her and will treat her properly and look after her.

And don't get any more pets. Ever. Angry

Rachelle3211 · 30/11/2018 00:40

Cats don't like to shit where they sleep. She needs to see a vet.
