At night.

Have rehomed the bloody thing in the garage.

We haven't had a litter tray indoors for over a year. Had an outside one for a while which she didn't use so I removed it. For the last few weeks, when it's been wet outside, she has been shitting in her bed. Two mornings in a row now I've come down to it.

I don't want an indoor tray again so have locked her in the garage with tray and food where she will go every night over the winter from now on.

DC think IABU but they're not cleaning up the shit and having to do two boil washes, one for bed, one to clean machine!

Wtf is wrong with you?! Assuming this isn't a wind-up, I think you're being very unreasonable and should rehome your cat!

junecat · 30/11/2018 00:41

My boy is 15 months. He prefers to go in the garden in general but in bad weather or when he gets caught short he uses his trays. He has three. No I wouldn't shut him in the garage. :(

WinterfellWench · 30/11/2018 00:42

I am begging you, please please please take your cats to cats protection league tomorrow for rehoming.

Don't let this beautiful creature suffer anymore. She deserves so much better than you. Your posts are making me want to cry, you sound so cold and unfeeling and cruel.

Poor cat. Sad

CatAndMice · 30/11/2018 00:42

Where’s your toilet? Outside block or inside?

Cats are clean. She’s going in the bed to save other areas. I have an indoor and outdoor covered litter tray. She wees indoors and poos outdoors. Her choice. But if it’s stormy, I would understand if she pood indoors.

Give her to a rescue. To someone who cares. You don’t deserve her.

WinterfellWench · 30/11/2018 00:43

I mean take your CAT - not cats!

TrippingTheVelvet · 30/11/2018 00:43

YABU

SylviaAndSidney · 30/11/2018 00:44

Oh ffs. I’ve owned cats. The cat is warm and dry inside the garage, it’s not animal cruelty in the slightest.

Ooh, halt the thread, apparently having owned cats gives one the insight into what is and isn’t cruel.

Lovingbenidorm · 30/11/2018 00:44

Bloody hell!
This is appalling. You cannot keep a cat in the garage over winter. I fail to see the problem of having a litter tray. Pet owners need to pick up shit from time to time ffs.
The fact that she’s crapping in her bed is unusual.
If you can’t be arsed to get her checked by the vet in case there’s an underlying issue then you need to get her rehoused.

Perfectly1mperfect · 30/11/2018 00:46

Having a litter tray can be necessary for cats so YABU.

Our cat doesn't go out at night so he has a tray at night. We sometimes bring it in during the day if he seems reluctant to go out. If you keep it clean, it doesn't smell. Just get a tray and you won't need to boil wash anything.

sanpelle · 30/11/2018 00:46

Christ. It's really easy for small animals to get hypothermia in winter and garages are horrifically cold

AGHHHH · 30/11/2018 00:47

Ooh, halt the thread, apparently having owned cats gives one the insight into what is and isn’t cruel.

Yeah and because THEIR cat is a night cat and THEIR garage is dry and warm, everyone else's must be. Hmm

Foslady · 30/11/2018 00:47

Dcat is now 15. We have reinstated the litter tray which she uses often and she has me up at least once every night, but you know what? I don’t care because it’s payback for all the times she’s been there to calm me down and cheer me up.

Fluffypyjamas · 30/11/2018 00:52

People are dicks. Why on earth would you get a cat, teach it to use a cat litter tray, then take the tray away and wonder why the cat is crapping somewhere it shouldn't be? Even the OP's children have more common sense/emotional intelligence to understand that what she is doing is wrong. I wish people like this would realise they just shouldn't ever have pets.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 30/11/2018 00:56

Poor cat.

Please give her to someone that will care enough to give her a loving home with basic needs.

Perhaps she doesn't match the decor either?

ThistleAmore · 30/11/2018 00:58

The fact that your own children are pointing out that YABU should, I think, say a lot.

Please make some effort to rehome the poor animal, because you obviously don't give a shit.

I don't say this very often, but I think you're a vile excuse for a human being.

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 00:59

Cat has never been a lap cat or sleeping on beds kind of cat. Out all night generally but I try to keep her in when it's cold and rainy. I used to trawl the area to get her in when she was younger. She'd be yowling at door to get out again.

She sleeps indoors during the day. Eating and jumping around fine. Regular health checks. It is just in wet weather she does it.

Comparing an animal with fur being locked up overnight in a dry, safe garage to a DC being out there? Honestly Hmm.

I will be scooping whatever she deposits in the litter tray overnight but the house won't stink.

Unpaidcarer · 30/11/2018 00:59

You actively encouraging your poor cat to wander and shit in anyones garden?
You need to rehome the poor thing. If you decide to be a cat owner you decide to clean a litter tray daily.

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 01:01

'vile excuse for a human being' keyboard warriors not able to sleep hey!

My old lady (cat btw) has started using her emergency litter tray rather than brave the horrible weather, and yes, it’s aaaaaaawful!
I’m gagging like nobody’s business when I clean it, but she’s a very happy old thing and the thought that someone would lock her up in a garage for her sins is abhorrent!
A cat deserves a warm, safe , loving environment.
Feeling cross as my 18 yo puff snuggles on my lap.

Pot kettle black.

empmalswa · 30/11/2018 01:03

OP, what about the fact that your cat has started shitting I side when she hasn't for a year? Are you simply ignoring the massive fucking warning that she may be unwell and need to be checked by a vet?

KathyBates · 30/11/2018 01:05

It's not fair to keep the cat in the garage; it's also not fair to keep the cat in the house without a tray.

Get a covered tray with a mat, use the silica cat litter (expensive but less tracking/smells and it last ages). Look at what you're feeding it; feeding raw reduces the smell. Make sure any bedding she's been to the toilet previously on is cleaned properly or replaced so it's not tempted to go there again. Buy a plug in.

Lots of options- don't make the cat stay in the garage all night over winter

Whatsnextforus4 · 30/11/2018 01:05

If you think it's fine and reasonable why are you posting here?
YABU.

Ollivander84 · 30/11/2018 01:05

Cats don't like going in their bed, might be worth a vet visit
And yes, you need a litter tray. My cat won't go outside - he will come back in if he needs a wee Confused so I have to have one
Decent litter and I scoop straight away and there is no smell. But I also feed grain free high meat content food which makes a massive different to poo
You're not being fair on the cat unless it's a warm, dry, well insulated garage
