To banish cat from the house?

At night.

Have rehomed the bloody thing in the garage.

We haven't had a litter tray indoors for over a year. Had an outside one for a while which she didn't use so I removed it. For the last few weeks, when it's been wet outside, she has been shitting in her bed. Two mornings in a row now I've come down to it.

I don't want an indoor tray again so have locked her in the garage with tray and food where she will go every night over the winter from now on.

DC think IABU but they're not cleaning up the shit and having to do two boil washes, one for bed, one to clean machine!

'vile excuse for a human being' keyboard warriors not able to sleep hey!

Actually, I'm on a night shift.

Oh, sorry, I should have added an extraneous exclamation point, hey!

Lovingbenidorm · 30/11/2018 01:07

Another reason for cats suddenly soiling inside is if they’re being bullied. A spayed female is the lowest of the low in cat hierarchy

baristagirl · 30/11/2018 01:08

You know YABU so why bother asking?
Please rehome "the bloody thing" (as you so kindly called her) for her sake:

SandAndSea · 30/11/2018 01:11

Cats like to be clean and warm.

I would book her into the vet's. Tell them what's happening. Hopefully, they'll be able to advise you further.

I would also bring back the litter tray. It doesn't smell if you change it regularly.

MrMeSeeks · 30/11/2018 01:14

You should rehome her.
You have no idea why ( or even seem to care why she’s pooing inside) illness, something has scared her, or hurt.
Its sad that you’ll read these posts and will still think you’ve done nothing wrong.

MrMeSeeks · 30/11/2018 01:15

I never ssay rehome either, but your house is more important than your pet.
She deserves a home where she is important.

Hereitisnow · 30/11/2018 01:17

You should be reported to the RSPCA.

Ladiva1971 · 30/11/2018 01:17

My cat has a litter tray, but occasionally she will decide to pee in the bath or take a crap in the hall way, but she is my baby and I would never put her in my garage, that would traumatise the hell out of her. Despite years of showing her she has never quite grasped the idea of the pooper scoop.

Athena51 · 30/11/2018 01:17

This is really upsetting. You seem unmoved by this poor animal's distress and untroubled by empathy or conscience.

Syvilla · 30/11/2018 01:17

Why not just put a litter tray in the garage, and have a cat flap through to the kitchen, so the smell is kept out of the house but she can still sleep somewhere heated?

It may not be too cold now, but it will get colder.

You don’t seem to like your cat very much.

Ariesgirl1988 · 30/11/2018 01:21

OP I really wouldn't lock her in a room at night it will cause her nothing but stress a friend did this with a kitten she found and when she couldn't find a home she kept it despite having another a cat who didn't take to the kitten and attacked it a few times (nothing bad thank god) so she locked the kitten in the living room with a tray and food to keep it safe and that caused it so much stress that the poor kitten start biting itself and still does my friend thought at first it was her other cat until a vet said the cat did it to itself and locking it in a room is bad. Secondly two mornings in a row is hardly something to get so worked up about, I have a cat and i change his litter tray once a week or maybe every 3-4 days if I smell the litter box i normally also put odour powder in the tray and mine has a little flap for him to go in and out it can't smell that badly surely if you change it regularly. Otherwise maybe take your cat to the vet make sure its not something else.

owlshooting · 30/11/2018 01:22

Our cat goes out most of the night even in this weather - her choice. I don't think being in the garage is such a terrible thing. Personally I would bring back the indoor litter tray and if she doesn't use it, then think again. It is very unusual for a cat to shit in their bed.

eggstoast · 30/11/2018 01:28

Being in a garage is ok if the cat chooses to live in the garage, or has never known any different, but to banish it to the garage away from it’s home and bed, because the poor thing has soiled its bedding a couple of times is cruel.
You are coming across as very cold and unpleasant in your posts. I hope that you are not that bad in real life.

GobbyMcGobshite · 30/11/2018 01:45

Your cat has somewhere to sleep which is warm and dry. It will be fine. I'd do the same if my cats decided to start shitting in my house after they'd been litter trained and learnt to go outside. And I only have a shed so I must be far worse than you OP.

One of our cats when I was growing up decided to shit in the bath each night so it was kicked out at night and slept in the green house. He had no health issues. He was just a dirty, lazy little fucker. He was warm, dry and sheltered. Not neglected or subjected to cruelty. He loved us and we loved him but not enough to let him shit in the bath tub and get away with it.

OMGFFS · 30/11/2018 01:50

Jesus... can I adopt that poor cat from you.

Lovingbenidorm · 30/11/2018 01:53

I think having a shit in the bath shows class in a cat

Funkyferret · 30/11/2018 01:53

If you don't want to give her a tray back, I'd rehome. Cats can be infuriating (lots of experience) and they are not for everyone. I am now off to bed where I shall find out what teabag size of duvet shall be mine since my husband and largest lump have got themselves comfy for the night. I may sound mad, but my advice still stands . . .

Oliversmumsarmy · 30/11/2018 02:39

You know you can get strawberry smelling cat litter.

I have 5 cats and you can’t really smell anything apart from strawberries

Lovingbenidorm · 30/11/2018 02:41

Ooooh Olivers that reminds me of lemon disinfectant for toilets 😳don’t you just get poo and strawberry all mixed into one?

SabineUndine · 30/11/2018 02:57

Just wondering where you live OP? If you are in the UK your garage will not be warm enough unless it’s got heating on overnight. Seriously. You don’t sound like a cat lover tbh. You and your cat would probably be better off apart.

Mine hates using the indoor tray, we can go months without changing it as it doesn't get used. She only does when a cat comes into our garden. When the other cat stops visiting she goes back to avoiding the litter tray. There is usually a reason for a change in a cats behaviour, you are most likely just making your cat more stressed.

Topseyt · 30/11/2018 03:23

I agree with your children. This is cruel and you haven't thought it through.

If someone took your toilet away you would soon run into problems regarding where to shit and piss. You would have to do it somewhere.

Most animals don't like to soil their beds. Twice in his life my cat did this, and both times but was down to medical problems. Once was a blocked bladder, which is life threatening but was quickly sorted by an operation at the vets. The other came near the end of his life when a progressive spinal condition caused him to lose control. He couldn't recover from that one and had to be put to sleep. By your logic I should have relegated him to the garden shed or something (don't have a separate garage).

You haven't even had your cat investigated for any issues.

TSSDNCOP · 30/11/2018 03:40

YABU, you know it, and we know you know it but you’ll have a good time yanking our chains in the meantime.

Do you know I’m absolutely getting a flashback to a GF thread like this a couple of months ago that was pulled.

Shmithecat · 30/11/2018 03:42

I've got 5 cats, who have the freedom of indoors and outdoors, but I try to keep them in at night. They have 2 litter trays indoors, which they use. My house doesn't stink. Either you're not cleaning them regularly enough, you're using cheap crappy litter, or feeding her shite which makes hers shite smell. You can easily rectify all that, and NOT by locking her in a garage at night. YABU.
