To be angry and feel the Scottish Gov’s Twitter header is an attack on women?

i’d like them to clarify exactly what their definition of “transphobic” is because it seems to have become a slur these days often aimed at anyone but mostly women who are critical of or question in any way the recent upsurge of identity politics. I just feel they’re doing a knee jerk, ignorant, unnecessary huge fuck you to women.

...because if there is a WORD that distinguishes trans...

Typing too quick, not proof-reading.

Rat, still not following.

A natal woman is the opposite to a transwomen, in what way?

Opposite what?

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 12:15

The reason that the prefix applied to women by transactivists and their allies is a huge problem for women is that it is used to construct a false hierarchy where women are the oppressors and a group of male people are oppressed by them. And This is quite obviously nonsense. And is used to dismiss the rights, feelings and concerns of women. Adult human females.

Datun · 05/12/2018 12:37

Woman is a concept and an entity that doesn't require it be conditional on anything else. It doesn't require the word natal, or cis, or born, or real.

It's transwomen who require the category of women, in order to make sense of their identity. They have to have women as part of their sexist narrative, otherwise their narrative disappears in a puff of smoke.

Women are human beings in their own right. It's so revealing how many people want to forget that. And want to make their existence conditional on an invented category.

I am an adult human female, the collective noun for which is women.

I do not accept your demand that I change so my definition becomes contingent upon that of a man.

Because the truth is, it's the other way around.

RatRolyPoly · 05/12/2018 13:07

As usual Datun you've gone off on some bizarre tangent where people are making demands of you or saying women aren't people in their own right. Is there someone over my shoulder you're talking to, because I said neither of these things?!

You really need to accept that just because someone uses a word in a way you don't, it doesn't need to become WAR. Do you go nuts when someone calls a butty a sandwich, because a butty is ONE piece of bread folded around a filling and a sandwich is TWO pieces of bread; and that the butty-sayer is making the existence of sandwiches conditional on being not an open sandwich?? I mean it really is as bonkers as that!

If you want an open sandwich, have one. Sandwiches are usually two pieces of bread, but if you want to say no open sandwiches you can say as much. Honestly, I'm actually sick of this infantile shit-stirring. Words are created. They serve us to describe our world. They're not a bloomin' instruction manual.

I don't care about a trans "narrative". Apparently I haven't spent enough time on Twitter scaring myself witless that it's some big pharma global conspiracy funded by the Jews in order to sterilise homosexuals and enslave women for the sexual gratification of men - whoops, must try harder. Trans women are women because the world is complex. Because people are more complex still. Because our minds are created from our biology and our lived experience is meaningful. Nothing to do with validating some narrative; sorry to quash your perceived victimhood there.

Hyppolyta · 05/12/2018 13:15

Rat butty and sandwich mean approximatly the same thing.

Transwoman and woman mean opposite things.

So a correct analogy would be ordering and paying for food, and being handed a brick.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/12/2018 13:21

Talking the dark - if you RTFT I have ANSWERED.
Was it not the right answer again?
Damn. Sorry.

Hyppolyta · 05/12/2018 13:25

The problem with your answers if your words dont mean anything.

You complain when your asked to define how you use the word woman, but without definitions, words are just gibberish.

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 13:26

I do not accept your demand that I change so my definition becomes contingent upon that of a man.

No. Me neither.

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 13:28

CAT

  1. Felis catus
  1. Dogs (what's that?) which use a flap in the door
  1. Rabbits which use a litter tray

It's a great definition, no?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/12/2018 13:29

Your entire post is meaningless sophistry, RatRolyPoly, but this sentence stood out:

Trans women are women because the world is complex.

Wtf does that even mean?

A woman is a human female. There's no criticism or endorsement attached to the definition. It's just factual. It tells you nothing about a woman's personality or talents. A woman is an adult human female just as a mare is an adult equine female or a sow is an adult porcine female. It's no more complex than that.

Gender is socially constructed. It varies across time and geography. It has no biological components. It is not found in any other species.

It is neither helpful nor progressive to glorify a set of stereotypes or to try to elevate them over the reality of sexual dimorphism.

TLDR? We're mammals. Get over it.

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 13:29

Burble burble burble "trans women are women!" Burble burble

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/12/2018 13:51

Can you type the person's name, and put an asterisk either side of it. That highlights their name without sending them an email

I know, but I've been told by the poster before that even just highlighting without the at looks shouty or abrasive so didn't.
Putting the name in just the middle of the text like say here with datun and it's easily missed as just another word.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/12/2018 13:58

The problem with your answers if your words dont mean anything

So I DID answer then. Good, glad you found them
Of course they don't mean anything to you if it's not the RIGHT answer, maybe that's why they slipped by you first time round?

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/12/2018 14:01

Wtf does that even mean?

RTFT for a clearer idea of what people are saying, but you're never going to try to at least open up a crack and try to understand, are you.
She hasn't spoken it in Greek or Russian, it's plain, it's really really not hard if you RTFT.

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 14:08

but I've been told by the poster before that even just highlighting without the at looks shouty or abrasive so didn't.

She hasn't at all. Judge by that whether you think she's posting in good faith.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/12/2018 14:11

There is no fucking point, is there? YOU HAVE and you know you have.
Seriously, you HAVE said highlighting is abrasive (can't remember the exact word used, might not have been abrasive, but you HAVE said it is intrusive/abrasive/like you're being called out.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/12/2018 14:12

Probably going to get wah stop gaslighting now for my bingo card but you know what? Don't care because I know it's the truth.

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 14:17

It's not the truth. Stop harassing me and telling untruths.

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 14:18

I have never said that highlighting was in any way a problem. Don't you dare tell me what I said.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/12/2018 14:20

Fine. Maybe you didn't then. Sorry if not. I'll take your word for it.

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 14:20

Ok I'll accept your apology. Thank you.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/12/2018 14:41

Ive heard of the atting thing

And caps lock...i like a good caps lock

But ive never heard of people being annoyed by highlighting

Every day is a school day on MN

Ereshkigal · 05/12/2018 15:21

I didn't say it Rufus, and Verbeena has apologised.
