Im absolutely disgusted at this and it shows how far the stigma against social housing tenants has gone.

I can’t watch the video. Grenfell affected me so much and I am the other end of the country. If it wasn’t for social housing at the age of 18 needing to leave an abusive family I dread to think where I would be now. That’s beside the point though. It just shouldn’t matter why someone is in social housing. To make jokes about these people (including babies and children) dying is sickening. I hope karma kicks their arses to no end.

Sparklesocks · 05/11/2018 20:10

They are nasty, soulless people with no empathy. The heartbreak and anguish that has come out of the ongoing enquiry has been devastating. It makes me despair for humanity that these horrible little bottom feeders find it all so hilarious to laugh at death and trauma. Hope karma comes for them.

PortiaCastis · 05/11/2018 20:11

Yes there are still photos on fb some with names but obviously the names could be wrong so I'm not sharing them.
Krouse so sorry for your loss and sad that such horrible depraved rubbish is on msm about your relative

IAmNotLikeThem · 05/11/2018 20:12

We know damn well there are stupid people all over the world so why are people even giving it air time?

sweeneytoddsrazor · 05/11/2018 20:15

Antigon there was also white ginger haired cutouts which is why it cant be a race crime. So I suspect the outcome can only be employers seeing it and losing their jobs, which I hope does happen.

Giantbanger · 05/11/2018 20:17

Absolutely abhorrent.

Choochoothepanda · 05/11/2018 20:17

This was a hate crime and if you can't acknowledge that then you are a dog whistle racist.

Well that didn't take long before I was being accused of being a racist. Hmm

It goes without saying that what these people have done is disgusting. Posters are allowed however, to discuss whether it has broken any laws.

So, what crime/offence do you think has been committed?

everydayunicorns · 05/11/2018 20:26

It is repugnant, and born evil. By recording it and posting it as well - in my mind infers a deliberate act to torment and racially abuse the victims of this dreadful tragedy.

steff13 · 05/11/2018 20:27

This was a hate crime and if you can't acknowledge that then you are a dog whistle racist.

I don't think this is fair. Just because something is hateful, doesn't make it a hate crime. And pointing that out, doesn't make one a racist. Hate crime has a specific definition.

HelenaDove · 05/11/2018 20:30

what is the specific definition of hate crime?

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 05/11/2018 20:31

hate crime
[hate crime]
NOUN

a crime, typically one involving violence, that is motivated by prejudice on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or other ground

Apparently this is the definition.

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 05/11/2018 20:32

I dont recall Posie Parker or Linda Bellos using violence but many were happy to describe what they did as hate crimes.

OP posts:
Choochoothepanda · 05/11/2018 20:45

I dont recall Posie Parker or Linda Bellos using violence but many were happy to describe what they did as hate crimes

And just as many were happy to say that it wasn't a hate crime. Were those people wrong? (legally) No. Were Posie and Bellos transphobic? Possibly, but being transphobic by itself isn't a crime, neither is being racist.

I'm simply saying (and being jumped on all over for it) that I don't think what these idiots did was an offence.

MrsTommyBanks · 05/11/2018 20:46

Krouse64 I'm so very sorry for your loss.
Please don't let the sick actions of the vile scum bags who did this take away from the support and sympathy that 99% of people have for you and your family Flowers

A580Hojas · 05/11/2018 20:48

People who watched the video - why did you do that? Don't you now feel complicit in sending it viral? Surely the descriptions were enough to stop you from clicking.

A580Hojas · 05/11/2018 20:49

I agree with IAmNotAirTime.

HelenaDove · 05/11/2018 20:50

i havent watched it........................only what ive seen on the TV news

The still of their faces is what i have shared.

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 05/11/2018 20:53

Can i ask a qusetion though? As this is apparently not a hate crime , if this hadnt gone viral what punishment would they get.

Would they get away with it.

OP posts:
BakedBeans47 · 05/11/2018 20:53

Fuckers

HelenaDove · 05/11/2018 20:56

It was apparently first uploaded and shared in a Whatsapp group so im assuming someone leaked it from there

Guilty conscience?

OP posts:
Buster72 · 05/11/2018 20:56

Helenadove
For a hate crime you first need a crime.
There does not appear to be a statute against building an efigie and burning it in your own garden.

Buster72 · 05/11/2018 20:57

Would they get away with it, if it did not go viral yes.

Antigon · 05/11/2018 20:58

@Choochoothepanda

So, what crime/offence do you think has been committed?

A hate incident has been committed because this is an offensive joke against people because of who they are. The people in that burning effigy were depicted as brown and and some as visibly Muslim.

A hate crime has been committed because this was an act that caused harassment, alarm or distress.

I'm glad MN are deleting your offensive posts.

Gizmo79 · 05/11/2018 20:58

I watched it only after it was posted here.
I disagree it was a race crime. A crime of ignorance and stupidity yes, and disgusting yes.
However, people do behave like this. Let’s face it, Princess Diana died, nasty horrible jokes, other famous people die - nasty horrible jokes. So these aren’t celebrities but they died in away that made them known, so at some point there will be nasty tasteless jokes.
It has luckily been a year ago. Which is more than can be said about other sick comments about people who have died.

HelenaDove · 05/11/2018 21:03

Gizmo I wasnt aware there was a time restriction on the grief the survivors are feeling and others respect for them. Hmm
