I like horror, but I’m easily freaked and stuff stays with me. I’ve read reviews of this and they’re either very dramatic or this film has made people puke and pass out! I know they said this about The. Exorcist which didn’t freak me (bar the crucifix scene, I had a religious upbringing!)

Has anyone seen it and if so, is it really horrendous? I’m still freaked by the little brother flying at his brother’s window after being turned into a vampire in Salem’s Lot!

I watched one preview clip and couldn’t sleep for three nights.

PosterMoster · 20/10/2018 21:26

I watched it and enjoyed it. I cannot imagine how sensitive those viewers who fainted or vomited. It had a few jumpy moments but most scary bits were silly rather than scary. I have watched scarier British Detective series.

It's good, and worth watching but not very scary. Spectres and spirits type scary, so ott make up.

spacefighter · 20/10/2018 21:26

It's a good watch but not that scary. Didn't make me jump or have sleepless nights lol.

NoLogicInThis · 20/10/2018 21:28

I'm on episode 6 and it's not that bad at all.
I spend most of the episodes trying to work out which sister is in the time hop as it jumps back and forth in time and all the sisters look the same?,

Jellyonawonkyplate · 20/10/2018 21:29

It's very jumpy imo. I can't stop watching it but can't relax for the whole hour. Have to find out what happens now though!

LuluJakey1 · 20/10/2018 21:30

It was interesting but more in an intriguing way than scary. There were a few jumpy moments. The ghosts/spirits are mainly a bit over the top. I didn't understand the end bit about the two people who worked in th3 house.

YouBetterWOooOooOoo · 20/10/2018 21:31

It's more boogyman and jump scares for the scary bits, a lot of it is mainly focused on the relationships between the family members. I watched it and thought it seriously good tv, haven't been hooked on a show in a long while. Writing and characters were excellent.

ginghambox · 20/10/2018 21:31

I've seen scarier episodes of Rentaghost.

MintCassis · 20/10/2018 21:33

We were hooked and finished it in less than a week! A few bits made us jump but not too scary, just a really good mystery story.

Agree about the sisters NoLogicInThis They all look like each other and their Mum. They did a great job of casting the children to look like the older actors too.

shaftedbythesystem · 20/10/2018 21:35

Ooooo. I love horror, where can I find this series? I watched ' Hereditary' as soon as it came out as a digital download, I was raging, fucking shite of the highest order. I need something to make up for the disappointment, recommendations welcome!

ElsaMars · 20/10/2018 21:36

It's brilliant and I loved it but it's not scary AT ALL.

InkyGrail · 20/10/2018 21:36

It's not frightening and I am hypersensitive to horror of all kinds. It's a nice mystery story.

Redken24 · 20/10/2018 21:38

Aw definitely watch it. I really enjoyed it, wasn't what I expected. Not scary, a few jumps and some ghosts in the corner of the scene's though that you don't always notice straight away.

mydogishot · 20/10/2018 21:39

Not scary at all.

Howtodeal · 20/10/2018 21:40

I did have to turn it off at one point but tbh that was because DH has been away and it was late and I got spooked...I watched it the next day though no probs. It was a bit creepy but not scary as such. I found it more sad than anything, especially the last few episodes. Such a good watch, I did all 10 episodes in 2 days.

flumpybear · 20/10/2018 21:42

Jumpy but not scary - it's good

Urbanbeetler · 20/10/2018 21:43

I’ve seen scarier episodes of Scooby Do.

But enjoyed bits of it as a drama.

TheOud · 20/10/2018 21:43

Is it based on the Susan Hill book? I enjoyed that but didn’t find it very scary at all.

mummyhaschangedhername · 20/10/2018 21:44

I scary to any too easy ...first episode was the scariest. But on the whole not scary.

RiverTam · 20/10/2018 21:46

So I am someone who found both the theatre and film productions of The Woman in Black terrifying (even typing the title is making my hair stand on end!), so if anyone has seen that, how does this compare?

MsNowtyBach · 20/10/2018 21:47

I am a mega wuss and I watched this no problem. It is very good, but it's not terrifying.

The best thing about it is the representation of family dynamics.

PoxAlert · 20/10/2018 21:47

Ooh I think you've all convinced me.

I'm a total wimp when it comes to horror these days.

Loved them all in my teens but since being a "real adult" stuff plays on my mind too much.

Before we start though please can I just check there's no torture/rape/abuse please?

I'm all for ghost stories but really don't find anything abusive entertaining.

Spoiler free though please. Xx

FreddyKruegerleftgush · 20/10/2018 21:50

One of the best horror series in the last couple of years. Watch OP, you won't regret it.

And it's not blood or gore at all, there's a lot of psycological horror in it.

HurrahMoaningMyrtle · 20/10/2018 21:51

I'd recommend it. I found it creepy at first, then jumpy and then it ceased to be either and was just an interesting story.
I find scary things usually stop being scary once they're out of the shadows and that's definitely the case with this - in the final episode the ghosts are chatting away like any other character.
But DH has just reminded me I refused to left downstairs on my own after watching Halloween Smile

cheesefield · 20/10/2018 21:52

I'm on episode 5 and am still awaiting the scares. Aside from a couple of minor jumps not much has happened so far. I'm disappointed!
