I like horror, but I’m easily freaked and stuff stays with me. I’ve read reviews of this and they’re either very dramatic or this film has made people puke and pass out! I know they said this about The. Exorcist which didn’t freak me (bar the crucifix scene, I had a religious upbringing!)

Has anyone seen it and if so, is it really horrendous? I’m still freaked by the little brother flying at his brother’s window after being turned into a vampire in Salem’s Lot!

The scariest part for me was in episode 8 when both me and DH actually shrieked

I know that moment too! DH who can watch the funniest, scariest, most emotive movies, shows and concerts in total impassivity actually exclaimed "Fuck off now!" thoroughly shaken, while I smothered a scream, tipped the cat off my lap then chose that as a pause-play while I pull myself togethermake a cup of tea break.

Tidythatmess · 04/11/2018 13:34

That moment in Episode 8 ( you can only be referring to one thing!!) was the most shocked I have ever been watching a horror. I actually jumped out of my seat and took a few minutes to calm down! Normally you can tell when there's going to be a jumpscare moment but this was very well done, everyone was caught off-guard. I almost want to research the scene but am too scared Grin

Tidythatmess · 04/11/2018 13:35

*rewatch the scene

FlurkenSchnit · 04/11/2018 14:11

I loved that moment in Episode 8 too! I jumped a mile & may have emitted a little scream....I know it was scary cos DH jumped too & he never reacts to scary films Grin

OoMatron · 04/11/2018 14:14

I’m more sensitive than your average viewer and tend to watch bits of it through my fingers. But vomiting? Eh? It’s average scary Confused

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 05/11/2018 13:37

Ooh pleased I've found this thread!
I'm really enjoying this and quite liking the slow build so your literally expecting to shit your pants every 20 seconds.

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT! I found the episode (sorry can't remember the number) when we see what happened to Nelly just incredible. Genuinely some of the best written and original horror I've watched in years. I was almost sobbing when she has that dance back in the house, you can feel her longing for that to be real. Then the shock of the moment when everything connects for her. I can't stop thinking about it!

Watching episode 8 tonight, getting my Big Girl Pants ready from what you've all said! Crikey the scary moment in episode 7 was bad enough, oh and did anyone notice the whit figure standing to the dads left when he was looking into the gap in the wall! Bloody hell! I'm loving it 😊

Stubbornuincorn · 05/11/2018 17:51

Let us know what you thought of episode 8 Wink

OliviaStabler · 05/11/2018 17:57

Is the episode 8 scene about Nell? I think I know the one you mean but I kinda guessed that was going to happen but still scared me.

KrispyKremes · 05/11/2018 22:09

I'm only skin reading as just finished the Nell episode.

I called the outcome there. But still don't quite get it. Looking forward to learning more.

But it's right at my limit of scary. So I'm a bit concerned about episode 8 having read some of these comments.

StyleOfTheTimes · 05/11/2018 22:14

We watched the whole series in 3 days and I didn’t sleep for those 3 nights 🤣 I’m pretty terrified of paranormal programs. Especially things that get you or go bump in the night when you’re asleep. After a few episodes though you get used to the jumpy bits and start paying more interest in the actual story. I will admit I watched the first 3-4 episodes though my hands making my dh relay what was happening 😳 definelty worth watching though!

Thebluedog · 05/11/2018 22:19

Oh I’ve just finished this... I love horror, but a complete wuss. Won’t give it anything away, but it’s the gift that just keeps giving Wink

starzig · 05/11/2018 22:24

I'm easily scared and didn't find it scary at all. Even the bits that were meant to be jumpy were a bit meh.

SistersOfPercy · 05/11/2018 22:25

I'm disappointed tbh. I've not jumped once and I'm about to start episode 9. I was a bit 'oh' at the bit in 8 but certainly not the terror and wailing I was promised.

KlutzyDraconequus · 05/11/2018 22:28

It's not scary. There's a couple of jumpy bits but I got more scared watching Yvette Fielding wander about in the dark.

Haunting is more like a family drama with back ground ghosts than it is about ghosts then, just as you think it'll get terrifying, it turns in to Walt cocking Disney..

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 05/11/2018 22:32

Haha yeah that scene in episode 8.
I threw my phone and screamed and I am not easily scared.
I really enjoyed the series. I think they cast the younger family and older family so well.

Fluffiest · 05/11/2018 22:33

I watched it all and found it scarier at the beginning. The scene where the Dad gets Stephen out of the house is so tense. It's more creepy scary than jumpy but for me that means it sticks with me longer. Scares aside the whole thing is excellent storytelling.

BalthazarImpresario · 05/11/2018 22:36

Not that scary really but a really good story

PurpleRobe · 05/11/2018 22:36

It's not very scary at all.

I was intrigued by the first 2 episodes but the it was rather boring for about 5 episodes.

Didn't particular care by the end.

It's a bit like LOST in the sense that it Jumps around. But not quite as frustrating or interesting

PurpleRobe · 05/11/2018 22:37

Haha it also reminded me of Brothers and Sisters so more like a family drama... with a ghosty feel

Maelstrop · 05/11/2018 22:43

I've seen scarier episodes of Rentaghost

Pmsl!! I know what you mean, although I had a few ‘thank fuck I’m not holding my vodka glass right now’.

dontticklethetoad · 05/11/2018 22:50

Have you heard about the hidden ghosts? You'll need to re-watch some scenes, proper freaky!

OliviaStabler · 06/11/2018 06:03

Wow, thanks for that link dontticklethetoad

GoodnightMooncup · 06/11/2018 08:11

I really enjoyed the series, but some episodes were much better than others, and unfortunately I thought the last episode was the weakest one and the ending didn't really make sense to me (don't want to give more detail because it would contain spoilers)

jaseyraex · 06/11/2018 08:24

Absolutely pants. Wouldn't bother watching it, feel like I wasted a week of my life watching it. The only bit that made me jump was episode 8. Storyline was very slow and lacklustre. Really disappointed me tbh. If you're easily scared then it might be your thing but otherwise, you will be bored throughout.
