I like horror, but I’m easily freaked and stuff stays with me. I’ve read reviews of this and they’re either very dramatic or this film has made people puke and pass out! I know they said this about The. Exorcist which didn’t freak me (bar the crucifix scene, I had a religious upbringing!)

Has anyone seen it and if so, is it really horrendous? I’m still freaked by the little brother flying at his brother’s window after being turned into a vampire in Salem’s Lot!

I watched it and now imagine I can see bent neck lady when I am awake at 1am. It really does frighten me. Yesterday I thought I saw her at the end of my bed and I panicked and jumped on my husband who was asleep who instinctively put his arms out and caught my cheekbone. - it’s bruised now :(

Nikx85 · 06/11/2018 16:29

Bored the life out of me! I'm usually a jumper at ghostly things but i didn't jump once. Couple of bits were slightly creepy and very sad but on the whole i just couldnt wait for the end! ( i watched it all in the hope it would get better) I found it predictable.

NoLogicInThis · 06/11/2018 17:18

Spoiler don't read if not watched till the end

Was nell the bent neck lady? I'm confused did she become her after breaking her neck?

drinkswineoutofamug · 06/11/2018 17:31

I'm about to watch it for the 3rd flipping time. I keep reading this thread and some of you more eagle eyed posters pointed things out I've missed. Then that link about the missing ghosts..... I'm going to have to ignore the characters and just try and watch the back ground.
Best bit for me. Apart from nells story, was at her funeral, the night before and the family are arguing. The camera pans round them and I'm waiting , waiting, waiting , and they keep arguing. I'm expecting something to be there , but no. Nell stops them from arguing by tipping over her coffin. Then they leave and she's stood next to her coffin as the bend necked lady.
And how can I forget the mum smashing up the model of the forever house.

expatinspain · 06/11/2018 18:37

Yes nologician. It was like a kind of premonition seeing herself dead after the hanging.

HiHoToffee · 06/11/2018 18:51

I am sure those 2 female statues moved their heads as well. The statues reminded me of Dr Who don't blink

AngeloMysterioso · 06/11/2018 19:16

I want to watch it as I have been planning for Oliver Jackson Cohen to be my second husband for several years now, but I absolutely HATE jump scares. I hate them.

Mushroomsarehorrible · 06/11/2018 19:25

DH and I have given up, we got to the middle of ep 2 and nothing was happening. Boring and overhyped nonsense Hmm not scary just daft

drinkswineoutofamug · 06/11/2018 19:29

Yes they did HiHo

KrispyKremes · 06/11/2018 19:54

@LatinForTelly

I've seen HoHH twice on gogglebox now. (They also showed a clip on the celeb one)

On both instances they've definitely shown the scariest moment of the episode on GB.

It was seeing that that made me think it was worth a try.

It's scary (only as scary as the GB bits) but a very god story so I'm quite enjoying it. X

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 07/11/2018 08:38

the last episode was shite.

I sat there thinking surely they are not going to do that, and they did! Hmm

Possible Spoiler the whole red room thing was a crock of nonsense too, how did no one notice the alternative set up

BAH, cross at being sucked in by the hype tbh.

SistersOfPercy · 07/11/2018 10:29

Last episode was very much an 'Ohhh I get it now" moment, I didn't notice the alternative set up but tbh I think I'd gotten completely disinterested and just stopped noticing.

Interesting that they are describing this as 'season one'. If they do somehow manage to pull a season two out of this nonsense I shan't be bothering.

NoLogicInThis · 07/11/2018 10:41

Spoiler do not read if not watched

Who was the ghost trying to get Olivia to kill the kids? And why? Totally didn't understand thay

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/11/2018 10:46

It’s great but - puke and pass out?! Couldn’t sleep after watching one clip?! Come on now.

There’s no gore in it, there are jump scares. Personally I thought the last episode was a let down and don’t understand how they can get another series out of a concluded story.

IrianOfW · 07/11/2018 11:06

It's weirdly divorced from the book. i guess that was just too lacking in action to be filmed. Saw two episodes but then got distracted and haven't watched the rest. Will try to get a night when I am have control of the TV!

expatinspain · 07/11/2018 15:41

nologic She was one of the original people who lived there. She was crazy and killed her own child.

HiHoToffee · 07/11/2018 15:58

Spoiler for nologic

Polly Hill, wife of William Hill and I think the mother of the old lady and the boy in the wheelchair. Mrs Dudley said she was insane. She told Olivia to kill her children to keep them safe from the outside world so they would stay like they were now, just like the house told her with her child.

Juanbablo · 07/11/2018 16:23

It's so good. Not too scary but enough jumps and twists to be totally brilliant.

differentnameforthis · 08/11/2018 09:22

Interesting that they are describing this as 'season one'. If they do somehow manage to pull a season two out of this nonsense I shan't be bothering. I have read there will be a S2, different family

beefchowmein · 08/11/2018 09:33

(Spoilers)

If it wasn’t for the crazy ‘screaming meemies’ ghost lady (poppy I think) then none of the bad things would have happened would they? She pretty much made the mum go insane and sparked off the whole sequence of events.

I wasn’t a massive fan of the ending. Hated the whole Abigail ‘twist’- as if the adults wouldn’t have worked it out at some point. So nobody ever saw Abigail, she never mentioned to Luke who her parents were, the Dudleys never mentioned their daughters name to the Crains etc or realised she was playing on the grounds.

The red room was basically a rip off of the room of requirement in Harry Potter, not sure how the treehouse worked either?

I liked the little happy ending sequence though and the little subplot with Shirley.

HiHoToffee · 08/11/2018 10:50

beefchowmein it was the house that made people do these things, Poppy was just another susceptible victim used by the house. Like Nell said at the end, the house is a stomach, the house is the monster
The tree house was like the other people's places a projection.

MawkishTwaddle · 08/11/2018 10:52

I find this show absolutely brilliant. God, the bit in episode 6 where Mr Dudley is talking about his experiences in the house and how it affected his wife...totally mesmerising.

I love it. Just the right level of scary, but also incredibly sad.

beefchowmein · 08/11/2018 13:07

It seemed like Poppy did a great deal of the work though. As the dudleys said the house was also full of ‘beautiful things’ like their children. It seemed the ‘bad’ ghosts were also damaged before the afterlife.. poppy and her husband had met in a mental asylum I think? Unless I’m getting the characters mixed up. It seemed she stirred the pot the most anyway.

What I want to know is do all the ghosts have to haunt hill house forever? So do nell and her parents just have to exist there forever and ever Confused

blackchina · 08/11/2018 13:17

It's amazing and very scary - watch it!

zeezee3 · 08/11/2018 13:17

Yes, it is freaky terrifying, and brilliantly done!

So many genuine scares. Scariest thing I have seen on TV ever I think.
