Benidorm ...my idea of actual hell

sallyohh · 29/09/2018 11:11

I can't think of anything worse than going to Benidorm.
I go on holiday to have a relaxing holiday away from normal day to day life.
My friend has just gone and every night is just drunken Brit's dancing to sweet Caroline drinking cheap alcohol.
Am I alone in this? I'm only 32 but this is just my idea of hell.

I am fairly sure that the dubious clubs aren't obligatory. Doesn't Benidorm have nice sandy beaches, an Old Town, water parks etc?

OublietteBravo · 29/09/2018 11:14

I went in February. I quite like it out of season.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 29/09/2018 11:15

Not my thing either but there's obv demand for it so each to their own. Old town Benidorm is actually very nice!

Padparadscha · 29/09/2018 11:15

Well there’s this thing called different tastes and not having to indulge in things you don’t enjoy. I’m not sure what the point of this thread is.

sallyohh · 29/09/2018 11:15

The point of this thread is me asking if anyone feels the same.
If you can't see the point ...don't reply simple.

SodTheBloodyLotOfThem · 29/09/2018 11:16

I mean, that's like saying London is someone's idea of hell based on your friend getting wankered in Wetherspoons

sallyohh · 29/09/2018 11:16

The whole Benidorm strip seems tacky to me.
Not just one pub ...the whole strip
Can't see any appeal

OP posts:
pippitysqueakity · 29/09/2018 11:17

Well, don’t go then. HTH.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 29/09/2018 11:17

We went to aqua natura polynesian lodge resort a few years ago and absolutely loved it. The staff couldnt do enough for the dc.

Yabu. And generalising massively.

BlueJava · 29/09/2018 11:18

I think a lot of people feel the same. As I don't drink alcohol and don't like noisy places many of the things in Benidorm wouldn't appeal. However, I believe that Benidorm can be really nice - it's just certain areas - as in a lot of places.

Belindabauer · 29/09/2018 11:18

It's not for me but each to their own.

southnownorth · 29/09/2018 11:19

Some of it's very nice, the Old Town, La Cala just around the corner.

Don't write the whole resort off just because of the square and Calle Gerona.

Just seen I wasn't meant to reply, oh well.

Padparadscha · 29/09/2018 11:19

If you can't see the point ...don't reply simple.

Oh the irony.

usertenmillion · 29/09/2018 11:20

I wonder if it's as bad as you think you 'know' it is.

CoughLaughFart · 29/09/2018 11:20

But no one is trying to make you go. Why are you bothered that she likes something you wouldn’t? Just stick to the kind of holiday you do enjoy and don’t waste your time judging others.

LagunaBubbles · 29/09/2018 11:21

It really shouldn't come as a great surprise to you OP that different people like different holidays. Some people will like Benidorm, some won't. Same as everything else in life.

ilovesooty · 29/09/2018 11:21

Your friend likes it.
Your tastes are different.
So what?

SodTheBloodyLotOfThem · 29/09/2018 11:22

I've just been reading about Benidorm and quite fancy it now. Not the dodgy nightlife, that doesn't appeal at all, but the Old Town, botanical gardens, Tapas Alley, flea market, water sports, nearby coves, all look gorgeous. I can think of many worse things than a week in Benidorm.

MrsMoggy · 29/09/2018 11:22

There’s more to benidorm than the bars. Old town is beautiful, fantastic natural waterfalls, a great sea life type place and the water parks. Lots of day trips to go on and the beaches are really clean and perfect for kids as you can walk really far out into the sea and it doesn’t get deeper. Lots of parks along the seafront as well. We love it there

PositiveVibez · 29/09/2018 11:24

Erm, have you ever actually been?

I've been once and I thought exactly the same as you.

We went for a girls weekend and it was one of the best weekends I've ever had.

Fab weather. Great food, great company. Something for everyone.

I just can't see how it's your idea of hell, when you have never actually been.

If you go and dislike it, you can then make an informed decision. But to dismiss it because of your preconceptions is idiotic.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/09/2018 11:24

So you went everyone to agree with you OP otherwise they shouldn't post?

GrinHmm

It's my idea of hell but I know people who have been going every year for a long time and love it. They would hate my holidays.

Why start such a goady, stupid thread?

Clarich007 · 29/09/2018 11:24

Totally agree sally.
We went and hated it from start to finish.
Awful awful place.Once away from it on day trips etc we enjoyed it but.I still have bad memories years later.
Rubbish hotel, night clubs outside our window,no sleep, food poisoning.I have never been so glad to go home !!

CoffeeShortbread · 29/09/2018 11:25

The point of this thread is me asking if anyone feels the same.
If you can't see the point ...don't reply simple.

Checks title of topic Hmm. Nope. The point of threads in AIBU to seek opinions on whether you are being unreasonable in your thoughts, hence Am I Being Unreasonable?

Benidorm isn’t my cup of tea either but why do you care that others enjoy it? Leave them to it.

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 29/09/2018 11:25

You ask if you are alone in feeling this but no one is allowed to reply unless they agree with you. Some people like things that you don’t. Have you really only just come to this realisation?

AuntBeastie · 29/09/2018 11:25

I’m the same, can’t imagine anything worse for myself. I think for some people they want the weather and the amenities but for it to otherwise still feel like the U.K. Grin
