Benidorm ...my idea of actual hell

sallyohh · 29/09/2018 11:11

I can't think of anything worse than going to Benidorm.
I go on holiday to have a relaxing holiday away from normal day to day life.
My friend has just gone and every night is just drunken Brit's dancing to sweet Caroline drinking cheap alcohol.
Am I alone in this? I'm only 32 but this is just my idea of hell.

I’ve never been, it doesn’t appeal to me at all so I wouldn’t spend money on going. There are plenty of other places in the world that also don’t appeal to me, so I wouldn’t spend money on going to those places either 🤷🏻‍♀️. Not sure what the point of this thread is.

GreenTulips · 29/09/2018 11:51

We went to Terra Natura last year - its was like Centre Parcs abroad - relaxing staff were great all inclusive lively weather great water park and zoo - have a great time

Go try it

SoyDora · 29/09/2018 11:52

Although DH went as a teen with a group of friends. His parents live about an hour and a half away and he phoned them after a night to come and fetch him apparently Grin.

Buxtonstill · 29/09/2018 11:52

What is your idea of a good holiday?

vampirethriller · 29/09/2018 11:54

I went a couple of years ago. Thought it would be awful but it's not, it's very clean, very friendly and the old town is lovely. The hotel we stayed in was mostly Spanish guests and the food was Spanish too. Depends what you go for I suppose. We never got drunk or threw up or went in English/Irish bars. Not one full English breakfast was eatenGrin

Iooselipssinkships · 29/09/2018 11:55

I want to go just to see Sticky Vicky

Rudgie47 · 29/09/2018 11:55

If you don't fancy it then don't go it really is that simple.
I can think of worse holiday destinations though like Malta, that really is the definition of a total shithole.

lynmilne65 · 29/09/2018 11:56

What does it matter how others feel ? Pointless thread!

CoffeeShortbread · 29/09/2018 11:57

looselips is sticky vicky still going?! She must be in her 70’s now? I thought she’d retired?

IStandWithPosie · 29/09/2018 11:57

I want to go just to see Sticky Vicky

I saw her, wasn’t all that tbh. I think she is retired now, although her daughter performs too.

A580Hojas · 29/09/2018 11:58

You want everyone to congratulate you on being superior to your friend?

Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Bimgy85 · 29/09/2018 11:59

Ummm is this news to you? Hmm have you been living under a rock op?

Benidorm has been like that for years. When we visit Alicante we go to benidorm for one night 'for a laugh' it wouldn't be somewhere we would ever consider actually staying.

Too loud, british and rough too.

Yes there is old town, nice parts but you must stay up that end.

Package deal lager Lout central

Undercoverbanana · 29/09/2018 12:04

I’ve never been but I’m told that if you put your running shoes on and head out of the touristy areas it is fab. If all-day Prosecco and chips aren’t your thing, then stay away from that area of the town.

GooseDownCreek · 29/09/2018 12:06

I've never fancied it mainly because I don't like high rise blocks but some of the posts on here have made me think I might enjoy a holiday there.

sunshinelollipopsrainbows · 29/09/2018 12:07

I wouldn't say Benidorm doesn't appeal I'd say if I went I might be looking for a different experience and stay away from the strip. I love Albufeira but I don't go for the nightlife.

ThePants999 · 29/09/2018 12:08

You wanted only people who agree with you to post... and you posted in AIBU?

YAB, obviously, VVU.

JacquesHammer · 29/09/2018 12:11

You do know it isn’t compulsory to go? Confused

Although I’m quite sure what you were really after was countless posters corroborating your own view that you’re so superior to your friend.

SlothMama · 29/09/2018 12:12

I went with my friend and thought it'd be awful however turned out to be a laugh!

SodTheBloodyLotOfThem · 29/09/2018 12:13

I can't get Sweet Caroline out of my head now

BlitheringIdiots · 29/09/2018 12:15

We've booked to go next summer on a family holiday. 5* hotel in old town. No clubs or bars for us. Just like when we go to Tenerife we don't go to the strip. These places aren't all about bars and clubs OP

CrumbsInBed · 29/09/2018 12:19

Sweet Caroline da da daaa., good times never felt so good.
I’m feeling fine da da daaa...ahem..sorry 😄.

Wouldn’t that be more for the older end of the market, than the young crowds?
I can see this army of 70 plus year olds sat there swaying away with their mobile phones in the air...
Misses the point of the thread totally..

Bowerbird5 · 29/09/2018 12:20

I agree but son went once and stayed outside near old town and thought it was ok. I went to Tenerife once and was glad we weren’t staying around the point at Los Am and Los Ch. Timeshare person said we could stay there if we bought into the company.( DH got free holiday) we were glad we weren’t.

YesitsJacqueline · 29/09/2018 12:21

A lot of people feel the same way as you do OP , and that is usually because they don't know a lot about the area. My friends were horrified when i told them im taking ds aged 4 there in Feb half term.
I had to gently remind them my plan wasn't for the 2 if us to tag along with a hen party and go clubbing every night Grin
It's got a mild winter climate , alicante is a smaller Barcelona, and there's lots to do for families.
I say this as in a former life i worked in hospitality and have been every where from cape town to singapore.
2 hours flight for a bit of winter sun and only 250 pounds per person for a decent hotel during half term. Can't beat it !

DistanceCall · 29/09/2018 12:27

If you can't see the point ...don't reply simple

I don't think you understand how AIBU (or Mumsnet) works.

sallyohh · 29/09/2018 12:36

Why would me not liking Benidorm make me superior to my friend ?
Part time wannabe psychologists on here I think.
