Benidorm ...my idea of actual hell

sallyohh · 29/09/2018 11:11

I can't think of anything worse than going to Benidorm.
I go on holiday to have a relaxing holiday away from normal day to day life.
My friend has just gone and every night is just drunken Brit's dancing to sweet Caroline drinking cheap alcohol.
Am I alone in this? I'm only 32 but this is just my idea of hell.

OP posts:
Nodancingshoes · 29/09/2018 13:28

It's not my idea of fun but each to their own...I have been to Benidorm for a day before and the old town was very nice. There were some nice restaurants on the front aswell

LagunaBubbles · 29/09/2018 13:30

Why would me not liking Benidorm make me superior to my friend?

It doesn't. Your posts however give away the fact you clearly think you're superior to someone who goes on a "tacky" holiday.

Justanotheruser01 · 29/09/2018 13:30

I used to say this about majorca so did my husband we ended up there for a cheapo holiday this year and absoloutely loved it. Considering a cheap and cheerful week in benidorm next year before brexit

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 29/09/2018 13:32

Oh, just own it OP. You started a thread to sneer at your 'friend' going on holiday to Benidorm.

My friend has just gone and every night is just drunken Brit's dancing to sweet Caroline drinking cheap alcohol

Your judgement on that ^.

The wide-eyed, 'I can't believe people are suggesting that I think I'm superior for not liking Benidorm,' rings a bit hollow.

Allineedyoutodois · 29/09/2018 13:37

Ah holiday snobbery, you can't beat it! YABU just for that.
Benidorm has some nice areas, old town is lovely but the main reason people go there is because it's very affordable.
You don't have to go and get hammered in party bars, and more than you have to go to Mallorca and go to the party strip in Magaluff.
People can go to Miami or Nice or Amsterdam and stay up all night drinking too you know.

eelbecomingforyou · 29/09/2018 13:39

I mean, that's like saying London is someone's idea of hell based on your friend getting wankered in Wetherspoons

Grin Grin

Cheddarsmedders · 29/09/2018 13:42

I can't think of anything worse than going to Benidorm.

Is drinking cheap alcohol and dancing to sweet Caroline normal day to day life for you?

And what’s being 32 got to do with anything?

You do you, OP.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 29/09/2018 13:46

I went when I was about 6.

Wouldn't go now, no.

Where do you go on holiday OP. We are dying to know, you little tease, you.

blackvelvetband · 29/09/2018 13:48

Holiday snobbery 🙄

JacquesHammer · 29/09/2018 13:50

Why would me not liking Benidorm make me superior to my friend?

Oh it absolutely doesn’t. You’re labouring under the misapprehension it does though.

DeaflySilence · 29/09/2018 13:50

"The point of this thread is me asking if anyone feels the same. If you can't see the point ...don't reply simple."

Having never been to Benidorm I cannot personally comment on whether your view is more valid than opposing views of others (although general demographics do suggest that there are bound to be at least some people, with personal experience of the place, who would see your point of view).

Nevertheless, sallyohh, I am left wondering why on earth you would start this thread on AIBU (or indeed, start this thread at all) if you only want replies from people who agree with you. Is it okay to ask you that?

Ucantpo1ishaturd · 29/09/2018 13:50

I love Benidorm in the Winter I also love Sandals St.Lucia. Different strokes for different folks.

Redland12 · 29/09/2018 14:03

I agree with Ucant, love The Caribbean but also love Benidorm. I go every year to Beni, sometimes twice, a girls holiday, the beaches are as good as the Caribbean and there is something for everyone one. It’s so popular it cannot be that bad. We stay right at the end in Finestrat in the tall hotel called the Gran Bali. It’s a fabulous hotel and a gorgeous beach close by. You don’t have to be in the hub if you do not want to. Of course it appeals to the younger ones, stag and hens. But everyone is happy and having a great time. It’s a brilliant atmosphere. A fabulous promenade to walk along of an evening. Gets into your heart.

EmperorTomatoRetchup · 29/09/2018 14:29

I also love Sandals St.Lucia

Do they still exclude gay people from their resorts? They certainly did until fairly recently.

WilburIsSomePig · 29/09/2018 14:37

Don't go then. Job done.

ProfessionallyUnoffended · 29/09/2018 14:47

OP, you sound quite touchy. Do you need a holiday? I hear Costa Brava is lovely this time of yearWink

headinhands · 29/09/2018 14:52

Am I alone in this? I'm only 32 but this is just my idea of hell

If you're posting on MN yes of course. MNetters only holiday on working farms in Kazakhstan where they're the only English speaking family within a 250 mile radius.

In reality people do enjoy a piss up in Spain.

headinhands · 29/09/2018 14:54

The point of this thread is me asking if anyone feels the same.

You had to ask? You weren't sure that someone else might not enjoy that type of holiday.

Actually the point is to bask a little in your 'oh so' cultured tastes.

headinhands · 29/09/2018 14:57

Downmarket, tacky and just awful

Well aren't you a just little ray of snobbery.

Shopkinsdoll · 29/09/2018 14:59

I don’t see the point of this thread! Everyone likes different things in life. If you don’t like it you don’t need to go. It’s simple 🙈🙈

headinhands · 29/09/2018 15:00

I'm not bashing people who go it just doesn't appeal to me

Of course you are with your faux confusion. 'Really, people enjoy that?' What do you want us to say? Your friend is pretending? Everyone on holiday in Benidorm is some undercover sociologist?

MissLadyM · 29/09/2018 15:01

You don't have to do those things. It has its kitsch side but is actually a lovely friendly place with some lovely retro architecture. Don't go if you're such negative snob!

LydiaLunch7 · 29/09/2018 15:02

Let's start a whole range of threads on the same line.

"Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like caravan holidays in Skegness?"

"Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like hiking holidays in the Scottish Highlands?"

"Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like sightseeing holidays in Paris?"

"Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like strawberry ice cream?"

"Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like pointless mumsnet threads?"

headinhands · 29/09/2018 15:03

It appears to mean someone I know and like to bitch about online but will pretend to like IRL.

Ha yes! 'Someone I'm judging furiously in order to make myself feel a bit posh.

BillywigSting · 29/09/2018 15:04

I went with a friend for three nights for her 21st a few years ago.

All I can say is never again.

It's Blackpool in the sun.
