To think that bikinis on toddlers are vile and wrong..

And to wonder why my Daugher has to wear anything on her top half atall ? I've spend hours this morning trying to find a nice pair of swimming shorts for her and have seen rails and rails of bikinis that are just scaled down versions of adult ones, little triangle tops and everything ! I am struggling to understand why anyone would dress their toddler like a mini adult, it's very saddening.

This is the kind of thing I think is cute on tinies www.rrshop.co.uk/index.asp?pid=967342&pg=1&le vel1=Girls+Spring%2FSummer&level2=Page+12+%26+13+%2D+Nav y+%26+Red&level3=
Though dd is currently wearing the most adorable little red gingham swimsuit with ruching and a little frill of a skirt and a bow on her bottom from, of all places, Tesco! She thinks it is wonderful.

Aloha · 09/06/2007 19:12

Oh how annoying! Anyway ruched bandeau top with ties on the shoulder and little pants.

jinxed · 09/06/2007 19:26

im with hatrick

bikinis are horrible on babies

i hate them on adults too

one piece or shorts and t-shirt here

jinxed · 09/06/2007 19:28

aloha - it is gorgeous. would love that for my dd's but not at tht price!

jinxed · 09/06/2007 19:28

but not until they are older i should have said!

SoupDragon · 09/06/2007 19:38

Isn't putting the bottoms on a toddler sexualising them? They don't need covering up, they can run around naked after all.

ZZMum · 09/06/2007 19:45

I love bikinis on little girls and would never think not to let her wear one... they are not sexual at all... I love to see my DDs big fat belly sticking out from between the top and the bottom... just like me..

heifer · 09/06/2007 19:46

We, if I listened to some of you guys I would be dressing my DD in this on the beach

www.danzfamily.com/archives/blogphotos/005swimsuits.j pg

But as I won't be, as I feel I am a responsable adult who is able to make my own mind up on what is suitable atire for a toddler..

Mine shall be wearing this

www.boden.co.uk/col.asp?segname=Mini&styid=32149& amp;segid=5&gpname=Skirts&desname=Tropical+Crinkle+S kirt&gpid=26&gen=1

and you know what - we might even take the skirt off!...

Come on, if you stop your daughters wearing decent bikinis when they are young they may well end up wearing this as soon as they get the chance!..

Our girls wore swimming suits or were naked. I always though bikinis on little girls were a little bit common. You can probably go to a beach and divide by class on the basis of which girls are in bikinis and which are not actually.

heifer · 09/06/2007 19:58

Well then, my mother was right all along, I am common as muck! she said I would be....

bless her...

Cammelia · 09/06/2007 20:02

Unless they're Boden tankinis xenia

Judy1234 · 09/06/2007 20:03

Boden can be a little down market at times. I just think bikinis on girls without breasts goes with ear studs and nail varnish and that whole awful look.

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2007 20:06

As a little girl I can't remember wanting to dress up like my mum. I honestly couldn't care less, though I liked my Barbie to look nice. Actually I prouded myself of being as detached as I could from the adult world. Dd is 3 and will wear just a bikini bottom (because of the sand), as she doesn't need the top one. Ok, I won't speak about England, but why in Italy in the last 5 yrs has it got so difficult to buy only the bottom for little girls (when it was the norm until a few years ago?) Is it a return of some form of medesty? mmmm I don't think so. Is it becuase it's cute? Maybe, it might be, I don't find it cute, but I can see that others can. Is it becuase it's more expensive to buy the whole bikini rather than just the bottom? Again, maybe.

heifer · 09/06/2007 20:06

no sorry Cammelia, according to Xenia, even boden bikini dressed children are common, (not poor but still common)...

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2007 20:07

modesty

elsieanjoanne · 09/06/2007 20:10

I think its very wrong my dd has full cosi with arms an legs for when we go on hols as how do you know which men sat on the beach are oooggling your dd's in there bikinis!
Paedophile heaven!

heifer · 09/06/2007 20:11

now, slight change of heart

www.chinadaily.com.cn/lifestyle/2006-10/21/xin_271003 2116510752592517.jpg

This isn't cute...

but really, how many of us who stated that they would let their daughters wear bikinis would actually be ok with this?

I have never bought my DD a bikini, but last summer she was given two bikini bottoms which she wore on the beach, generally with a t-shirt because of the sun factor. But then I took the t-shirt off when she went in the water.

Recently she has been given a bagful of handmedowns containing two bikinis. One was a triangle on strings top and one was a crop top. She loved both, but I told her that the triangle one was too small because I really didn't want her wearing it. Although I allowed her to keep the little skirt that came with it. She loves the bikini more than any of the 5 one-piece suits she has acquired. And she has just turned 3 and the last time we went on holiday was last August so I can't imagine she has lasting images of people in bikinis.

ok, I am getting it now...

SOME bikinis looks common and not very suitable for toddlers....

Some bikinis are cute and very comfy....

scatterbrain · 09/06/2007 20:34

Xenia - I normally agree with you - but that is such crap !

You can get common swimsuits and nice swimsuits, common bikinis and nice bikinis - you cannot just say bikinis look common !
