To think that bikinis on toddlers are vile and wrong..

And to wonder why my Daugher has to wear anything on her top half atall ? I've spend hours this morning trying to find a nice pair of swimming shorts for her and have seen rails and rails of bikinis that are just scaled down versions of adult ones, little triangle tops and everything ! I am struggling to understand why anyone would dress their toddler like a mini adult, it's very saddening.

It's so hot they would be better off wearing noting !

get over it

its a bikini

not a nuclear missile

berolina · 09/06/2007 16:58

I'm with edam. I'd prefer to put such a small girl in a one-piece (although I think that tankini someone linked to looked OK).

Boredveryverybored · 09/06/2007 17:00

Really I can only see bikinis on toddlers as handy when they're at the beach, paddling pool. Easy to go to the toilet, can go with or wothout top. I have never even considered that they are sexualising in any way at all, and still can't see it.
Fair enough if someone is dressing their toddler in a very 'adult' looking bikini, but I can't say I've ever seen a child in anything but a very childish bikini, crop tops with little knickers or shorts, my dd has a couple with sea creatures all over them, I can't see an adult wearing that tbh. lol

southeastastra · 09/06/2007 17:01

hello berolina! how are you?

yes we all wore them in the 70s

berolina · 09/06/2007 17:01

Pretty good - placenta has scarpered from cervix

BarbieLovesKen · 09/06/2007 17:02

"just another marketing strategy to make our children grow up faster."

  • Franca - you've hit the nail on head, for me, here.. exactly
francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2007 17:02

no, I won't get over it. Because it's useless, and I'm fed up of finding useless things on the market.

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2007 17:06

this

southeastastra · 09/06/2007 17:07

great berolina!

i guess in the 70s it didn't really cross people's minds that wearing them could be classed as anything other than just to keep children cool.

Boredveryverybored · 09/06/2007 17:08

But it's not useless is it, if lots of people are buying them, and like me do find them more useful than one pieces for beach etc.

worzsel · 09/06/2007 17:09

This Is more the kind of thing i was refering too. Hideous on a 2 year old.

Agree with that one Berolina, wouldn't put that one a child, but I honestly can't say I've ever seen a little one wearing anything like that!

Boredveryverybored · 09/06/2007 17:10

Berolina?? wtf did I get that..worzel of course I meant! lol

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2007 17:10

but what you need is just the bottom, the top is useless, why selling the top? just to make you pay more? I don't likw swimsuit either. I just want to be able to buy the bottom.

Boredveryverybored · 09/06/2007 17:13

Well really on small kids, you don't acually need the bottoms do you? If they're still in nappies/swim nappies they can go completely without. lol

worzsel · 09/06/2007 17:13

I might just change my name now ;). Almost every shop i went in today was selling these strappy triangle contraptions for todders, i was astounded tbh which is what prompted me to post on here in the first place. What is this horrible obsession with forcing children to grow up to soon why can they not just be innocent children untill they decide not to be.

thats the sort of thing im thinking of too worzel, yuck!

mummydoc · 09/06/2007 17:13

agree with posters who feel bikinis are one more thing sexualising our little girls , but recently bought one for dd2 aged 2 as very easy to get off for loo stops, especially as swiiming in warm pool always seesm to relax her and " I need a poo now" has resulted in some hilarious dashes to the loo trying to peel wet soggy suit off. for really cute old fashioned frilly bottoms try blooming marvelous or jojo mama bebe - i amsure i have seen them in hteir catalogue , sort of pink gigam frilly bottoms only .

worzsel · 09/06/2007 17:14

Franca thats what i wanted just a pair of swimming pants for dd , No top required, she's 2 !

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2007 17:16

try du pareil au meme then.

scatterbrain · 09/06/2007 17:21

This is my dd's bikini - I think it is lovely - very sweet and not at all cheap and nasty !

www.boden.co.uk/col.asp?styid=36026&segname=Mini& amp;segid=5&gpname=Swimwear&desname=Fifties+Bikini&a mp;gpid=21&gen=1&col=RED

I wouldn't buy that crocheted thing you linked too - it just looks nasty.

Guitargirl · 09/06/2007 17:32

When I see a toddler in a bikini I don't think anything of it really - unlike the 10-year old I saw in the park today wearing a t-shirt saying 'tell your boyfriend to stop calling me'...
