Yes, there needs to be controls on inciting violence and discrimination, but not to protect philosophical ideas such as religion and political views. Remember, to many people feminist ideas are hate speech, should feminism therefore be suppressed?

The anger about this seems so unfocused - people are angry that misogyny is not a hate crime (again, it would perhaps have been useful for people concerned about this to have stella creasy on talking more about how she wants to make it one but she was effectively no platformed because of her views on something else) yet there is also anger that this tweet seems to be encouraging people to report things that aren’t hate crimes but that are offensive. So, er, like misogyny then.

What it comes down to is a clear subtext that certain specific marginalised groups that we Do Not Like may use this to claim they have been subject to hate speech and we don’t want that do we
