The schools website has said that term is from 3 September onwards. I’ve just found out there’s a training day on 31st August, and I’ve no child care ... Aibu to just say I can’t go?

Confused. Are you a teacher

lookingforwardtoautumn · 27/08/2018 14:59

Yes

I'm surprised you didn't know before now Confused

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/08/2018 15:00

Assuming you are a teacher how is possible that you have gotten to 3 days before a training day without knowing about it?

You need to clarify did they tell you about it and you didn't realise or has it only just been announced because the answer to whether or not you go depends very much on this information.

lookingforwardtoautumn · 27/08/2018 15:01

No one told me, and I only found out by chance.

I thought teachers were in a day or two before term stats anyway doing prep etc 🤷🏽‍♀️

HesterMacaulay · 27/08/2018 15:02

August 31st is the ladt day of the previous academic year.
If you are a new teacher to the school your contract will start from Sept 1st.
If you are an existing member of staff how did you not know?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/08/2018 15:02

You need to speak to your head asap.

HesterMacaulay · 27/08/2018 15:03

Most teachers are but that would be in their own time.

lookingforwardtoautumn · 27/08/2018 15:03

not this teacher middle

What do you normally do for childcare?

stillnotTheDoctor · 27/08/2018 15:05

Here term starts in the 3rd but kids aren't in until 5th for training days.

lookingforwardtoautumn · 27/08/2018 15:06

Nursery, but from the 3rd onwards.

Are you new to the school I just don't understand how you couldn't have known? How is it that you found out?

lookingforwardtoautumn · 27/08/2018 15:07

I bumped into a colleague when shopping. I’ve been on maternity leave.

I'm not sure what's more worrying. Such an ineffective SMT or that you have a post grad, enormous responsibility and can still be so ineffectual.

I (and all staff) always have a week before students arrive although I understand not all schools are as hot on teaching, preparation, PD, planning etc.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/08/2018 15:08

Oh ok so that’s why no prep. It’s a nursery rather than just you running a class.

I mean, sure you sure have been told. Maybe the email got over looked or they accidentally left you off but either way you should see if you can go or tell them you can’t as you didn’t know and have no child care. I’m not sure what answers you’re looking for...

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/08/2018 15:09

Did you not get informed about any inset days whilst completing your KIT days? Surely you must have suspected there would be at least one inset before the kids came back. I'd say it would be very unusual to start back the same day as the children.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 27/08/2018 15:09

Speak to nursery and ask if they can take dc one day earlier?

MiddleClassProblem · 27/08/2018 15:10

But didn’t you set your mat leave return date? If it’s the 3rd maybe they’re not expecting you to do the training. Have you called/emailed about it?

Finfintytint · 27/08/2018 15:10

If it's not listed on the school website and you haven't been informed on any KIT days how did they expect you to know ( although these days are usually scheduled a year in advance).

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/08/2018 15:11

Oh ok so that’s why no prep. It’s a nursery rather than just you running a class.

I took that to mean her childcare was Nursery, plus this comment is hugely inaccurate and demeaning towards those who work in Early Years, they still have just as much Prep as someone teaching in Yr 1-6.

HesterMacaulay · 27/08/2018 15:13

I'm baffled.
Have you not had any contact throughout your maternity leave? KIP days? What is your return to work date?
Are the children in on 3rd?

MiddleClassProblem · 27/08/2018 15:13

Deanining? Jesus. They def don’t have as much prep and due to ratios they are not on their own running a class of up to 30 kids for a whole day...

MiddleClassProblem · 27/08/2018 15:14
