To keep a handbag I’ve found?

So on my walk this morning I found a Primark handbag in an alleyway. It’s clearly brand new but without tags. There’s nothing in it and it doesn’t look like it has been used at all.
It’s still there now, AIBU to take it? It’s really nice!

Go to Primark and buy one. The owner might go back that way and notice it

AviatorShades · 23/08/2018 18:23

I'd phone the local cop shop and ask them if they want me to drop it off to them. Could well tie it in to a snatch robbery?

InsomniacAnonymous · 23/08/2018 18:26

AviatorShades is right. I can't think of any other reason for a handbag to have been discarded like that unless it's because any valuables have been removed from it after it was stolen from somebody.

Quickerthanavicar · 23/08/2018 18:31

really? wow, just wow op.

Nesssie · 23/08/2018 18:31

It doesn’t look like it’s ever had anything in it, that’s what’s confusing me. My police station is shut on Thursday and I feel a bit silly ringing 101!

If I leave it it won’t be there tomorrow, the alley is notorious for being a teenage hangout spot overnight.

Just FYI if it had anything in it or looked used, then I definitely would take it to the station straightaway, I’m just not sure whether they are going to look at me funny for bringing in a new empty handbag.

ScattyCharly · 23/08/2018 18:32

Leave it. It isn’t yours and had probably been snatched and emptied.

Nesssie · 23/08/2018 18:34

So general consensus, leave it overnight and if it’s still there tomorrow take to station?

(And then make a trip to Primark)

Littlechocola · 23/08/2018 18:34

What an awful thing to even consider!
Go and buy one!

WhatAnAbsolutePenis · 23/08/2018 18:36

what an awful thing to consider!

Err, why?

Drama pearl clutches ahoy. It's a fucking bag down an alley way which no one gives a shit about.

Take it OP, for god sake.

Dontknowwhatimdoing · 23/08/2018 18:36

Pick it up, email the police to let them know you've got it, and if no one claims it, you can keep it with a clear conscience.

WhatAnAbsolutePenis · 23/08/2018 18:37

Take it to the station?!

Fuck me this place is hilarious.

lplo · 23/08/2018 18:37

Keep it op

SleepyMcEdie · 23/08/2018 18:39

It’s probably been nicked from primark by a teenager who has then got worried and dumped it.

Antigon · 23/08/2018 18:39

Of course you keep it OP. Don't understand the drama from others here. If it were a fiver I would donate it to charity but a Primark handbag is fine to keep. If it was stolen it would still have some random stuff left in it.

Funkyslippers · 23/08/2018 18:39

I'd definitely keep it, but might put a post on the local Facebook page for that area, saying where it was found and if anyone can describe it they can claim it

Nesssie · 23/08/2018 18:39

If it was in anyway likely to be returned to the owner or involved in a robbery then of course I would take it to the police. Or if it was a high end expensive bag.
But it definitely hasn’t been used at all- it’s brand new and if I leave it then someone else will take it. And I’m worried the police will laugh at me bringing an untraceable Primark bag in. That’s why I asked.

OP posts:
Nesssie · 23/08/2018 18:41

Of course I can email the local station! Thanks!

OP posts:
BifsWif · 23/08/2018 18:41

I’d take it, you can post on FB or give the police a call tomorrow - if nobody claims it you can keep it with a clear conscience like a PP said.

WhatAnAbsolutePenis · 23/08/2018 18:42

Involved in a robbery.

You make it sound like 5 masked men crept into a 30 million pound house and took all their silver.

It's a bag. Down and alley way.

Just have the bloody thing.

Thatssomebadhatharry · 23/08/2018 18:43

It could have been involved in a serious robbery where someone got hurt. It maybe brand new that’s why it looks like it hasn’t had anything in it.

I think wonder if this is really a Primark bag or if op is trying to minimise what she knows is wrong.

Thatssomebadhatharry · 23/08/2018 18:45

Or mugging if you would prefer that to robbery. Hmm

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 23/08/2018 18:45

It was probably stolen from Primark and then tossed either because they were being chased by security/police or they had a dose of the wobbles and didn’t want to risk being caught with it.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2018 18:46

Of course you can keep some crap you find in the street

Come back when you find a gold bar Grin

Aeroflotgirl · 23/08/2018 18:49

Take it, if it had somebodies cards, purse and stuff in, yes hand it in to the Police, but if its just been discarded with nothing inside than yes go for it.

slowrun · 23/08/2018 18:51

It could easily have been stolen and the contents removed then discarded.
