Think I saw a ghost on camera and nobody believes me

We moved into a large Victorian terraced house a few months ago. Always lots of strange noises but obviously in an old house you expect this, but some couldn't be explained like laughing in the bedroom (walls are think and you can't hear next door unless they're actually drilling into a joining wall!). Footsteps on upper floors etc. Along with that the rooms would turn icy cold all of a sudden, even in this hot weather you would be hot and sweaty one minute and then freezing cold the next. I have felt uneasy a lot. When DH went away to China I was here alone and just constantly felt like I wasn't alone. I'm not one to be frightened of the dark etc but there is no way in hell I would walk around this house in the dark. The dog seems really withdrawn and constantly anxious. Ears prick up constantly and he growls and cries for no reason which he never used to do.
DH gets really angry whenever I talk like this, he suffers nightmares (always has) and spooky stuff freaks him out so he gets very defensive and tells me to shut up about it but on a couple of occasions he has come into a room downstairs and looked confused to see me as he thought he'd seen me walk past upstairs etc.

ANyway because nobody will talk to me about this I bought some cheap cameras off eBay, the ones you stick on the wall and you can watch the room from your phone. I periodically watch them at work.
Yesterday I logged in at work and there was someone standing by the kitchen sink. It was a woman's figure but wasn't moving. I ran to show a colleague but it had gone by the time I got to her. NOBODY believes me and DH says if I can keep with it he will actually leave me as I'm making him feel ill.

Wtf. Am I going crazy??! I know logically ghosts don't exist but I can't explain any of this unless I am actually losing my mind. AIBU to wish someone would at least help me look into it properly?
We're in north of England.

You could ask the local vicar to carry out an exorcism.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 23/08/2018 12:51

I believe you as I have seen more than one ghost.
I know what I saw so not getting into a dispute!!
My dgm has her NE home blessed by the local vicar. Maybe an idea?

sonjadog · 23/08/2018 12:51

I would talk to the local vicar too. I wouldn't mention it any more to your DH because he has specifically asked you not to, but I would try to do something about it.

fieryginger · 23/08/2018 12:52

We have that sort of camera, the ones you can log into in your phone. We can record what we're looking at at the touch of a button and it saves to our phones. It might be worth getting one for your kitchen, so if you see it again, you don't need to rush and tell someone, you can just record what you are seeing. They are cheap, eBay ones that do the trick.

Gottagetmoving · 23/08/2018 12:53

I'm sure there are lots of so called spiritualists, mediums and ghost hunters who make loads of money out of people with over active imaginations so Google for some in your area and see what you find.

KatieMarieJ · 23/08/2018 12:53

You need to work out how to record your screen when something like this is happening (assuming you can't keep the recording) :)

NonaGrey · 23/08/2018 12:56

Change your locks.

yellowbeans · 23/08/2018 12:56

Get some sage and smudge the shit out of that place!

LucyDontLockIt · 23/08/2018 12:56

It's not so much about wanting rid of it, I just want someone to acknowledge it so I know I'm not going crazy.
I'm not a "scared" person, I grew up watching horror films, I can happily watch a horror film and go to bed and sleep soundly. I don't believe in ghosts really but since moving into this house I can't help but question it because things don't make sense. I'm scared I'm actually losing the plot.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 23/08/2018 12:58

You are NOT 'losing the plot'.
Look, my Dad and his wife, both scientists, like Mr and Mrs Rational, saw odd shadows passing doorways in their old house. It does happen.

FilledSoda · 23/08/2018 13:00

As PP said , you need a camera you can record with.
Are you more upset about the presence in the house or not being able to speak to your dh about it?
I wouldn't speak to him about it again unless you absolutely need to.
There are things you can do but you need to believe in your own abilities , the alternative is to get outside help.
If you're Christian maybe a blessing .

MarthaArthur · 23/08/2018 13:04

Could it be stress related? Your husband does need to grow up a bit if you are both scared and he wont let you talk about it.

FilledSoda · 23/08/2018 13:04

Crossed post .
Your main concern is thinking you've lost the plot, I promise you haven't .
These experiences are more common than you think , people don't talk about it because they are afraid of being ridiculed.
MN is usually very anti anything ' unexplained ' so I hope this thread is supportive .

memaymamo · 23/08/2018 13:05

How can any of us validate your ghost sighting? All we can say is whether it's possible or not possible. Those who believe in ghosts will say it's possible. Those who don't, will offer rational explanations.

As someone who lives with anxiety, I can say a common symptom is seeing shadows move out of the corner of your eye, just like a PP described. You could easily say I was sensing ghosts nearby. Your brain may have come up with an image of a woman for whatever reason.

Then again maybe it was a ghost, whatever ghosts are, whether residual energy, human spirits or anything else.

I am just not sure how we can validate your experience!

TooTrueToBeGood · 23/08/2018 13:06

You could ask the local vicar to carry out an exorcism.

Not always a permanent solution - the house could be repossessed.

WeeBeasties · 23/08/2018 13:09

Nothing you have said sounds malicious. If there are ghosts in your house they are clearly living alongside you happily, which is nice because it could have been their home too.

Please do work out how to record or take screenshots on your phone and share them here!

Dogatemyhomework666 · 23/08/2018 13:12

You aren't losing the plot.
I'm sensible....I never believed in ghosts. Until I started getting noises in our house. Again an old Victorian house. I started hearing crying or talking or children running around upstairs... and would go check on my DC and find them fast asleep. It started happening every night when my DH worked nights and in the end one night I heard crying and the running and went to check and ended up saying "please just leave us alone" and it stopped....for a while.

DH got a new job working days and we were laid in bed (or bedroom is downstairs kids are above us) and we heard the running....I went to check and the DC were asleep and I didn't hear them climbing ladders to their high sleepers which creak as they climb. Went back down and DH asked if they were ok. I said they were both fast asleep. He was freaked out and went up to check himself...even nudged the children but they were asleep....he checked the whole house as he was sure someone was hiding in the house....nothing.

mintich · 23/08/2018 13:17

I'd be getting the priest in!

AjasLipstick · 23/08/2018 13:18

Did you record it? If not why not? Will you record the next one? Record them all and come back.

Ohyesiam · 23/08/2018 13:20

Sounds like you need to trust yourself more op. You know what you saw, and what your experience of the place is. I know it’s hard to make the leap from logical to woo, but if you know it’s there you know.
Particularly as they are not troubling you.

Tessliketrees · 23/08/2018 13:21

Someone is living in the attic.

5foot5 · 23/08/2018 13:26

Change your locks.

^This.

And get someone to check your roof space or any other areas of the house where someone could be hiding. It could be something even scarier than a ghost!

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2018 13:26

“When someone looks at me and earnestly says, “I know what I saw,” I am fond of replying, “No you don’t.” You have a distorted and constructed memory of a distorted and constructed perception, both of which are subservient to whatever narrative your brain is operating under.” Steve Novella
