Think I saw a ghost on camera and nobody believes me

We moved into a large Victorian terraced house a few months ago. Always lots of strange noises but obviously in an old house you expect this, but some couldn't be explained like laughing in the bedroom (walls are think and you can't hear next door unless they're actually drilling into a joining wall!). Footsteps on upper floors etc. Along with that the rooms would turn icy cold all of a sudden, even in this hot weather you would be hot and sweaty one minute and then freezing cold the next. I have felt uneasy a lot. When DH went away to China I was here alone and just constantly felt like I wasn't alone. I'm not one to be frightened of the dark etc but there is no way in hell I would walk around this house in the dark. The dog seems really withdrawn and constantly anxious. Ears prick up constantly and he growls and cries for no reason which he never used to do.
DH gets really angry whenever I talk like this, he suffers nightmares (always has) and spooky stuff freaks him out so he gets very defensive and tells me to shut up about it but on a couple of occasions he has come into a room downstairs and looked confused to see me as he thought he'd seen me walk past upstairs etc.

ANyway because nobody will talk to me about this I bought some cheap cameras off eBay, the ones you stick on the wall and you can watch the room from your phone. I periodically watch them at work.
Yesterday I logged in at work and there was someone standing by the kitchen sink. It was a woman's figure but wasn't moving. I ran to show a colleague but it had gone by the time I got to her. NOBODY believes me and DH says if I can keep with it he will actually leave me as I'm making him feel ill.

Wtf. Am I going crazy??! I know logically ghosts don't exist but I can't explain any of this unless I am actually losing my mind. AIBU to wish someone would at least help me look into it properly?
We're in north of England.

@BertrandRussell I was looking up black cats because I've never had a cat before and I was trying to see if mine was a specific breed of black cat and I came across that. I know that they are seen as spooky and bad luck.

Yoksha · 23/08/2018 14:53

I'd get the roof space checked. Get a rodent specialist to do a survey. Then go up with them. Don't breath a word as you check it out. Or get a relative to come & have a look with you.

I once read an article about a couple who had an SAS soldier living in the space beneath the mobile home they lived in. The soldier had occupied the space for 6months before they became aware of it. They never got an explanation.

Just make sure if you do go up to check, that you have a garland of garlic round your neck. A bible in one hand, and a crucifix in the other. Just to be sure.Grin

actualpuffins that made me giggle Grin

OP, I'm with previous posters who have said to get your carbon monoxide levels checked, change the locks and take a good look at all your windows etc to make sure that they're secure.

Put it this way, even if you're convinced that there's something supernatural going on, carbon monoxide poisoning and people breaking in are still a risk!

SilkeOvesen · 23/08/2018 14:58

It’s truly amazing that given the large majority of people have phones (millions and millions) with a camera and people are continually taking photos, that no one has ever produced a photo or video of a supernatural event that can be definitely ascribed as a ghost. Not once.

On the other hand, there are many confirmed photos of intruders and proof that people have cheated on their spouses with other people (not saying this is what's going on here OP!). I'd be starting by ruling out the most likely options.

Yy to checking for rats and mice. We had rats scratching around in our ceiling once and the cats were terrified, not excited! Hmm

Maliali · 23/08/2018 15:04

What are the chances of having your phone in your hand in the house at the same time as a ghost happens to put in a quick appearance. And if you did happen to be holding it to be able to click it on camera icon and point it at said ghosty before it dematerialised? Unless your phone is in your hand at all times and on the camera setting you’d have to be pretty lucky i reckon

None at all.

bingbongnoise · 23/08/2018 15:09

I am not saying I disbelieve the OP; she saw what she saw, and felt something was weird. And I am quite open-minded, and think there is more to life than what we see (and feel.)

But what always amazes ME, is how, when someone sees a 'ghost,' it's always 'Victorian' or 'Medieval...' Never the ghost of someone wearing a Nirvana T-shirt, who died in the late 1990's.

And it's always a 'Victorian' house too. (Or one even older.)

No-one ever claims to have seen a ghost in a 2001 three-bedroom Barratt home semi with an integral garage.

It's like when people 'regress' under hypnotism to try and go to a 'past life.' They are always related to Alexander the Great, or King Henry the Eighth, or Napoleon Bonepart. Never Gertie the milkmade from a farm in Shropshire.

I agree also, that no-one has ever actually provided a very clear photo, or piece of film footage of any ghost... It's always blurred, like the pics of UFOs/aliens that people come up with.

How strange!

I always thought this too. I remember a story about a woman who claimed that she went to a hypnotist to regress to her past life, and discovered that she had been an Egyptian princess (or something) and she and her true love had been betrayed by a guard who wanted to marry her for her power. She also discovered that her boyfriend at the time was the reincarnation of the guard, and her life mission was to find the reincarnation of her true love. Her words were "we parted after that", which I always took to mean, "I went home, told my boyfriend that he was the reincarnation of a guard who betrayed me and my true love when I was a princess in Ancient Egypt, and he replied, 'Oh fuck off love.'"

Massively high seeing as people seem to have a phone in their hand all the fucking time!

AynRandTheObjectivist · 23/08/2018 15:17

Even taking this into account, the chances are still zero.

headinhands · 23/08/2018 15:19

Methinks she'd seen that movie with Kenneth Branagh and his missus. Can't remember it but the above is the plot.

Gottagetmoving · 23/08/2018 15:19

I agree...because there's no bloody ghost to take a photo of.

When I were a little lass, black cats were seen as a sign of good luck - I'm really not sure when it changed, but it makes me Sad

LeftRightCentre · 23/08/2018 15:30

I believe you.

Lemony, that sounds fascinating! Would you be willing to share your scariest experience?

ShartGoblin · 23/08/2018 15:31

I really think you need to drop this or carry on in secret. It's pretty cruel to keep bringing this up to your husband if he's asked you repeatedly not to because of his nightmares.

I love how everyone says there’s no proof ghosts are real. There’s also no way you can possibly prove that they arent

If you claim something exists, the onus is on you to prove it. Why would people set out to prove something they don't believe in doesn't exist for fucks sake!!

I know. I am a ghost, it's very sad that nobody believes me.
