Think I saw a ghost on camera and nobody believes me

We moved into a large Victorian terraced house a few months ago. Always lots of strange noises but obviously in an old house you expect this, but some couldn't be explained like laughing in the bedroom (walls are think and you can't hear next door unless they're actually drilling into a joining wall!). Footsteps on upper floors etc. Along with that the rooms would turn icy cold all of a sudden, even in this hot weather you would be hot and sweaty one minute and then freezing cold the next. I have felt uneasy a lot. When DH went away to China I was here alone and just constantly felt like I wasn't alone. I'm not one to be frightened of the dark etc but there is no way in hell I would walk around this house in the dark. The dog seems really withdrawn and constantly anxious. Ears prick up constantly and he growls and cries for no reason which he never used to do.
DH gets really angry whenever I talk like this, he suffers nightmares (always has) and spooky stuff freaks him out so he gets very defensive and tells me to shut up about it but on a couple of occasions he has come into a room downstairs and looked confused to see me as he thought he'd seen me walk past upstairs etc.

ANyway because nobody will talk to me about this I bought some cheap cameras off eBay, the ones you stick on the wall and you can watch the room from your phone. I periodically watch them at work.
Yesterday I logged in at work and there was someone standing by the kitchen sink. It was a woman's figure but wasn't moving. I ran to show a colleague but it had gone by the time I got to her. NOBODY believes me and DH says if I can keep with it he will actually leave me as I'm making him feel ill.

Wtf. Am I going crazy??! I know logically ghosts don't exist but I can't explain any of this unless I am actually losing my mind. AIBU to wish someone would at least help me look into it properly?
We're in north of England.

my stepfather was convinced that black cats got stolen for use in black magic ceremonies, which typically took place in graveyards at night.
Then again, he WAS a born again Christian...

Theresnodisneyending · 23/08/2018 14:04

There is no concrete evidence that ghosts do NOT exist. There is no proof they DO (although there is a hell of a lot of stuff that can't be explained in the world - look for the video of the door in the hospital in brazil slamming open and closed on its own - so scary!). But you know what you saw, you know what you're experiencing, and there will be some explanation for it.

Try and record it if you can.

The dog clearly thinks something is going on. I'd trust that. When I was about 12 we rented a 17th century farmhouse for a week's hol in the Lake District. It was haunted - we hadn't been told this and no locals mentioned it when we told them where we were staying . It had a creepy feeling at one end of the landing where a blocked off door led, presumably, to staircase to attic/roof space. None of us mentioned it to each other but then one night we were woken by our dog, staring at the sealed door, backing away and growling at something - it was pretty obvious he could see something that we could not. My parents settled the dog down in his basket on the landing and told us all to go back to bed (and LEFT him on the creepy landing! -poor dog). Parents would not discuss it apart from letting us wonder what the dog had been barking about in the night. In subsequent years, they and my siblings all admitted that it must have been haunted. I think it was not allowed to be much talked about at the time because I was only 12 and had to sleep next to a hole in the wall that connected to the blocked off area (I was quite scared) and they wanted me to "forget" it. I've stayed in one or two other places that had severely creepy auras in parts of them too.

Your husband is being off with you and you saw a woman in your kitchen who shouldn't be there. Your a better woman than me if the first thing you suspect is ghost! Wink

In seriousness, I'm pragmatic, but you can't keep up with this anxiety. If you really believe in woo stuff get in someone who will de-woo your house. And stop with the ghost hunting.... the more you look for stuff to be worried about..the more likely you are to start imagining things.

optimusprimesmother · 23/08/2018 14:06

I just can’t cope with shit like that and I’d be sleeping in my car!!

I'll do it for half of whatever she charges.

Hope this will cheer you up, OP.

SerenDippitty · 23/08/2018 14:20

OP do you live near an electricity substation? Sounds too low for the human ear to hear, and electromagnetic fields, are known to cause feelings of unease/fear and visual/aural hallucinations.

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2018 14:20

“look for the video of the door in the hospital in brazil slamming open and closed on its own - so scary!)”

When you’ve done that, have a look at the other video that shows how it was done.

Gottagetmoving · 23/08/2018 14:21

What special powers do people think priests have??!
They are just blokes. This is 2018 not the middle ages!
It's scary that people pass this nonsense onto their children. I'm glad I didn't have parents that believed this rubbish.

Tessliketrees · 23/08/2018 14:22

When you’ve done that, have a look at the other video that shows how it was done

I just watched the video and it makes me really sad that somebody would need an explanation on how it was done.

WellErrr · 23/08/2018 14:24

Next time, record it and James Randi will give you a million bucks.

nicycle · 23/08/2018 14:29

Is your roof space sectioned off? sometimes in older terrace houses it's just one long roof space that all the houses can access.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 23/08/2018 14:31

yes in older houses and in cheaper new builds, there is no 'firewall' in the loft space...

VanGoghsDog · 23/08/2018 14:32

Occams Razor - most likely scenario is the actual scenario = you are, in fact, losing the plot. :)

EdWinchester · 23/08/2018 14:32

look for the video of the door in the hospital in brazil slamming open and closed on its own - so scary!

And so FAKE! Can't believe people are fooled by this nonsense.

headinhands · 23/08/2018 14:35

You could ask the local vicar to carry out an exorcism

.Not always a permanent solution - the house could be repossessed

Brilliant!

Flowerfae · 23/08/2018 14:39

if it looks like an actual physical person, it is most likely to be a person I would change the locks. Have you got anyway of uploading the footage?

Gottagetmoving · 23/08/2018 14:45

Next time, record it and James Randi will give you a million bucks

Sadly that challenge was closed a few years ago but in all the years it was open not one so called psychic or believer in this nonsense could prove anything and claim the money.

BlancheM · 23/08/2018 14:49

What did the woman look like? An actual woman or an outline? Facing the screen or with her back up it? Looking at anything in particular?
It could have been a shadow of something before the light changed hence disappearing, or your own reflection.

I see, hear and feel things but its in my mind. Sleep disorders. I guess I fall into the 'going crazy' category but I'd rather this than actually be haunted! It can be very scary but if you sort your triggers out, it can go away.

TheFaerieQueene · 23/08/2018 14:49

It’s truly amazing that given the large majority of people have phones (millions and millions) with a camera and people are continually taking photos, that no one has ever produced a photo or video of a supernatural event that can be definitely ascribed as a ghost. Not once. The James Randi foundation have a big chunk of cash waiting for you if you do!
Why don’t spiritualists take a photo to prove what they do is valid and not a con? Surely it would make their claims have validity and give so much comfort to people. But no. No evidence that can stand up to robust scrutiny.
