I had a recent thread running about having an abscess in my lip. Unfortunately I think it is going to scar.

It got me thinking about scars and the stories behind them.

I have a scar running across my arse cheek from sitting on my hair straighteners as a teen. That was fun when it went all scabby and stuck to my school tights. I have a small scar on my finger from slicing straight through a bagel, and a fag burn scar on my hand from my drunk friend (again as a teen). I also have the obligatory pregnancy stretch marks that still resemble a british road map 6 years on Blush

So, what scars do you have and what are the stories behind them?

Only my two emcs but im lucky as they are practically invisible. I worried about them loads as I thought they would be horrific.

Aprilshowersinjuly · 03/08/2018 11:01

I have one on my face, fell off a stool as a dc4 and fell into a Pyrex bowl dgm had been using ad a dog bowl.
One across my elbow dm did with a smashed mug washing my hair in the bath.
And a csection scar.
Various others tbh but small ones!!

Berniethecrabisthebest · 03/08/2018 11:04

2 on my belly one from having a shunt and one from taking a bit of fat for brain surgery. For that reason I have 2 on my head also but can’t see them as covered by hair. Also have a little scar on my leg where I got pushed in the pool on holiday when I was younger.

SheldonCooper77 · 03/08/2018 11:08

I have a long one from a few inches above my belly button to a few inches below. That's been opened up twice. I have another like an appendix scar. They're due to Crohn's disease. Then I have various tiny ones from 2 lots of keyhole surgery. And finally 2 c-section scars. My stomach is a road map of scars!

Sirzy · 03/08/2018 11:10

My knee is like a noughts and crosses board from a number of procedures by arthroscopy when I was younger

I have one about and inch long on my forehead where a pre cancerous mark was removed when I was 10

I also have scars the length of my ears behind them from having them pinned back

Toofle · 03/08/2018 11:12

Sirzy, snap!

Toofle · 03/08/2018 11:13

About the ears, that is. The rest would be too much of a coincidence.

Justgivemesomepeace · 03/08/2018 11:14

One on my shin just under my knee from when my sister turned the wheel on her bike and the mudguard sliced into my leg.
One on the back of my wrist from taking a baked potato out of the oven and touching the oven side.

GrumpyCatIsMyPatronus · 03/08/2018 11:15

I’ve got scars on my chin from where my brother scratched me.
Cat scratches on the back of my arm where I woke up from a nightmare screaming and shocked my sleeping cat.
The weirdest one is a small mark on one arm where I was bitten by... a dolphin Blush

EvaHarknessRose · 03/08/2018 11:16

I have a very large one from a childhood operation. Funnily enough now you mention it I realise I have not noticed it for years despite frequently admiring myself in the mirror!

FairfaxAikman · 03/08/2018 11:17

I have scars on my upper arm from a horse riding accident- unfortunately a lot of people assume it's self harm.

I have one that runs between pinkie and ring finger from my palm to the back of my hand - only English sheep dog bit me, despite me doing all the right things and asking the owner if I could pat it. Another time a Staffie tried to lick my face too enthusiastically and ended up breaking a tooth.

I also have one on my arm from mole removal and an emergency c section scar.

Scoleah · 03/08/2018 11:18

I have 1 under my bottom lip, where I bit straight through it in a Car Accident. 18 stitches inside and out.

One on my Leg where I fell off a Quad abroad.

One on my arm & little finger where I dropped a glass Mug when I was 3 and fell on it!

Sheldonoscopy · 03/08/2018 11:19

I have one on my hip from my birthday aged 6/7, my sister got jealous of the attention I was getting and dragged me around on the floor causing a really bad carpet burn which is just a physical reminder of how awful she’s always been and why we are n/c.

I have lots on my feet and legs from pregnancy itching that baffled Drs and drove me insane, I looked awful and now have cheetah type scarring

Sheldonoscopy · 03/08/2018 11:20

Oh! And one in my eye (the corner, it’s visible) from having surgery as a teen.

Aprilsinparis · 03/08/2018 11:22

I have one, just under my chin, fell downstairs sleepwalking when I was four. One on my index finger, sliced to the bone when carving joint of meat. Oh, and one on the back of my neck from when I had chicken pox, when I was four, and the bloody thing became infected. I think that's it, no exciting stories behind them I'm afraid.

BillywigSting · 03/08/2018 11:23

I have the gazillions stretch marks from pregnancy too

Plus four tiny dots on my right wrist where my old cat bit me (she was a rescue and terrified of her own shadow when we got her but by the time she died she was the friendliest most affectionate cat I've ever known).

I've also got scars of both hands from iv lines from when I gave birth, a long one on my hand from when my I lost my grip using a scalpel and a scar shaped like an X under my bottom lip from falling down the stairs as a kid.

Dp has a very impressive scar that runs the entire length of his forearm and is quite sunken from a very nasty broken bone (think sticking out of the skin bad)

Ds has one across his forehead that he got while he was out with mil and dp from his glasses scraping up his face when he slid/fell off his chair in a face. still not forgiven them for that one, marking my beautiful baby's face with a massive long scar

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/08/2018 11:25

I'm covered in scars from discoid eczema...

ParkheadParadise · 03/08/2018 11:25

I've got a scar around my throat I had my thyroid removed when I was 21. It's never healed properly. Years ago standing in a queue in Adsa, the women in front told her DH to look at my scar. When he turned round I asked if he could see it Ok, or did he want me to move closer.

eyycarumba · 03/08/2018 11:25

I have a thin white scar down the length of my arm from my cat when I once tried to carry him to school. I have a dent on my head that looks like a wrinkle, but it's from falling over as a toddler - I love it!

SinkGirl · 03/08/2018 11:26

I’ve posted about this before but I have a huge scar on my arm from an accident nearly 20 years ago. I fell on to a bathroom sink which broke in half and I slid down it.

I was 18 when it happened and it did look a mess for quite a long time, I was very self conscious after a few nasty comments and wore only long sleeves for years. These days I don’t mind it.

Aibu to ask about your scars?
Mousefunky · 03/08/2018 11:27

I’ve got one on the inside of my butt cheek from an extended episiotomy with DC1. A tiny one on my knee from the first time I tried to shave Blush. A fairly big one on the back of my head from cracking my head open as a child which is obviously invisible due to my hair. One the back of my upper arm from an oven tray when I worked at Greggs as a student. A few tiny ones on my hands from having various drips last year, they always take forever to fade.

That’s about it.

Janusrock · 03/08/2018 11:28

Just my emcs scar. I like it- it's below my bikini line so can't be seen when I have pants on (a lot of people don't realise this and get embarrassed when I have to explain why it would be inappropriate to show them)

DiabolicalMess · 03/08/2018 11:29

Ooh I have lots...

I have several small scars on my abdomen from having my gall bladder removed about 12 years ago.

A scar from 2 c-sections

A scar on my top lip from where I had an adnexal rumour removed a few years ago. That looks like a scar you might have from cleft lip surgery.

I have a scar at the top of my left thigh from where I ran past a pub bench too close when I was about 6.

I have a scar on my forehead right in the hairline where some idiot lobbed a coin across the school playground and hit me quite hard when I was a teenager.

Bizzylizzyloo · 03/08/2018 11:30

A couple on my abdomen from surgery to remove my appendix, one on my arm from when my dog accidentally scratched me, bad ones on both knees which are the cumulative effect of several falls, one huge one on my head (luckily hidden by hair) from being kicked by a horse.

itbemay · 03/08/2018 11:33

My 13ds has a 4" scar that runs along the side of his face from sideburn to just below ear, he had a tumour removed from his face when he was 2.
The amount of people that used to ask me about it when he was little, and ask him when he got older was incredible! thankfully he isn't bothered by it one bit - in fact when he was around 8yo he used to make up stories involving sharks!.
I think people can be curious and that fine but I do think it can be unfair to highlight these things, especially not knowing if the scarred person is self conscious.
