I had a recent thread running about having an abscess in my lip. Unfortunately I think it is going to scar.

It got me thinking about scars and the stories behind them.

I have a scar running across my arse cheek from sitting on my hair straighteners as a teen. That was fun when it went all scabby and stuck to my school tights. I have a small scar on my finger from slicing straight through a bagel, and a fag burn scar on my hand from my drunk friend (again as a teen). I also have the obligatory pregnancy stretch marks that still resemble a british road map 6 years on Blush

So, what scars do you have and what are the stories behind them?

Oh yes GreatWesternValkyrie, you've just reminded me. I have scar that goes through my left eyebrow, which isn't particularly visible I just have a bit of a bald patch. It looks like I've done that boy band thing from the 1990s by shaving out a stripe Grin

That was a result of an ill advised indoor roller skating incident when I collided with the sideboard aged about 6. I never saw the roller skates again...

TattiePants · 03/08/2018 18:36

One above my right knee after I stabbed myself in the leg with an open pair of scissors whilst trying to open a large box. This was 15+ years ago and I still have the scissors. You can see the mark on the scissors (first thing friend did was to mark the scissors to show how deep they went in rather than help stem the bleeding!)

Also one on my left hand from a wallpaper scraper injury. I'm not to be trusted with sharp objects.

I assume I also have 2 episiotomy / tear scars too.

mydogishot · 03/08/2018 18:42

I've got loads.

Most magnificent ones are on my thighs, when I had loads of medical intervention for cancer (both legs).
They are lumpy and uneven.
They are ugly but they are there and I'm alive.

I get weird looks when swimming but I don't give a shit.

Kr3000 · 03/08/2018 19:03

My c sec scar is my favourite. I also have one on my top lip that looks like a giraffe without a tail, and a small one at the top of my nose from being mauled by a dog when I was 10.

ThistleAmore · 03/08/2018 19:07

Oh jeebus, where do I start?

My favourite and most-hilarious/potentially-lifethreatening-story-related one is the small 1/2" scar on my forehead, just before my hairline begins, when I discovered I don't tolerate opiate painkillers well.

I was house-sitting for a friend who has RA, had a bit of toothache, went rummaging in her medicine cabinet and discovered her tramadol. I assumed they were basically hardcore paracetamol, so took two.

I had the TRIPPIEST four hours of my life before suddenly feeling indescribably sick, legging it to the loo, tripping over the wee step up from our bathroom floor to the toilet, falling and cracking my head off the cistern while vomiting Exorcist-style, so when my OH came through to see what the commotion was, he discovered me lying beside the toilet, off my head and covered in my own blood and vomit (head injuries always bleeding far more than they should).

He cleaned me up and put me to bed and sat next to me as I basically passed out for 12 hours, as he was terrified I'd choke to death on my own vomit. Came to with what I can only describe as a comedown and absolutely no memory of the previous ~16 hours.

Good scar, though.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/08/2018 19:16

One that starts at the base of my skull and goes all the way down to my lower back.

A burn on my knuckle from when I was a toddler.

A proper you can actually see the stitch marks Halloween style one on my chin where I had a dodgy mole removed.

A small one on my temple where a boy knocked me out with a rock.

TheLittleThingsLikeVodka · 03/08/2018 19:18

One along the length of my foot from surgery, numerous self harm scars (thankfully my wrists didn’t scar too badly, but my thighs and stomach have), burn scar on my wrist from cooking, scar on the other wrist from a night out at uni. I don’t mind most my scars, each one has a story but I do hate the tiny one on my top lip that was to result of dv

Nomad86 · 03/08/2018 19:19

My two DC have identical scars from identical accidents, 18 months apart.

HaveSomeGrace · 03/08/2018 19:23

I have one on my right hand little finger from falling out of a wheelbarrow, one on my left big toe from pissing about on a bed that had glass topped bedside tables, one on my right shin from being booted in the leg with an ice skate at my 13th birthday, one on my stomach from a cat scratching me, scars from sections and several on my arm from self harming. I chuckle at myself for my daft scars!

Kerantli · 03/08/2018 19:33

I have one on the side of my foot from a particularly nasty blister (crocs plus sand plus walking for miles over one weekend didn't help)

One on my knee that I don't actually know about, it just seemed to show up one day.

One on my right shin from walking into a bed

a scar between my breasts from a piercing that rejected, as well as scars from navel piercings that I had to get rid of

and then stretch marks, including ones that look like devil horns (thanks DS1..)

CrumbsInBed · 03/08/2018 19:33

A couple of scars on my knee from falling off my bike when I was little(couldn’t ride a bike for toffee).
Two on my abdomen, one from a laparoscopy and one from a salpingoscopy.
One on my cheek from an ex who beat me up.
One above my eye from falling over a kerb drunk. Luckily you can’t see that one so much now.

DancingHipposOnAcid · 03/08/2018 19:37

Big scar running from just behind one ear to the top of my neck from brain tumour removal. Also have large section of skull taken out so I'm always afraid the back of my head is going to suddenly cave in 😀

My stomach looks like a pin cushion with multiple keyhole surgery scars plus a pretty big and gross one on the site of colostomy operation, now reversed.

Murinae · 03/08/2018 19:40

I have lots of scars. One from having an internal defibrillator implanted. One from the pneumothorax as a result of them nicking my lung and making it collapse while having the ICD implanted. Lots on my arms and groun from various heart catheter procedures and a scar on my lip from a cat bite and burn mark in my arm from thelog burber door shutting on it.

stegosauruslady · 03/08/2018 19:40

I have a scar by my right eye from surgery, a chickenpox scar between my eyebrows, a scar on my middle finger from pulling the ironing board on top of myself as a toddler and a scar on my thigh from a nail in a stable door as a teen!

Murinae · 03/08/2018 19:41

Oh and a c section scar too

Tunnocks34 · 03/08/2018 19:43

I have a scar in my hair line from my brother throwing a video cassette at my head as a child. Cut it open.

I have a scar where I cut my finger off and had to have it reattached.

BlueJava · 03/08/2018 19:46

I have one on my arm about the size of the top of a cup. My dad was taking a door frame out, he gave it a massive whack and the top tore away and fell - just as I came up the stairs carying 3 breeze blocks so I couldn't get out the way. I also have a masive X on my stomach from having twins (c-section and complicated!)

Cavycavaprosecco · 03/08/2018 19:47

One from my sternum to my pubic bone and one curves from my sternum to my side. It’s actually two scars - the second surgery reopened the first and it was lengthened.

Both from surgery to remove tumours. I’m not self conscious about them any more but was for a long time.

bakebakebake · 03/08/2018 19:48

I have one that runs from the tip of one finger, to my wrist from catching it on a nail as a child.

Burn from hair straighteners.

Stung by a jellyfish when I was 10, 3cm long, 1cm wide. And then a few dots surrounding it.

Having children.. stitches, stretch marks.

Old piercings.
Chicken pox.

I might have one from having a mole removed behind my ear, but I can't see it so no idea!

Cavycavaprosecco · 03/08/2018 19:49

Those are the majors, chest drain, picc line, Hickman line and drain scars all visible. Plus a bunch from things like ovens and straighteners.

Doje · 03/08/2018 19:51

One on my knee from a sledging incident. An imprint of an escalator on my shin after falling down one (drunk and the highest of heels), c-section, 2 x harmless lumps removed, chicken pox scar on my chest and pin prick ones in the crook of my arm from giving blood.

Quite a few when I think about it!

Northernpowerhouse · 03/08/2018 19:52

An emcs scar, all a bit lumpy and bumpy with overhang.

Also tramline scars right down one wrist and onto thumb from when i was a pissed up student moving an old fashioned metal sprung bed base. V gory at the time!

Scarring over much of one knee from falling off my Chopper and continuing along concrete surface at speed. Age 10😀 plenty of sympathy and time off school.

Finally bad break in other arm when a teen and surgery with metal pins required.

Apologies for lack of chronological order.

BevBrook · 03/08/2018 19:52

Mysterious scar from waking up one morning in my 20s with a massive blister on my wrist. At the time I assumed it was a weird insect bite but so many people told me it looked like a burn, I then assumed I must have burned my arm on my hot water bottle (I had been drunk the night before and thought maybe I had been in such a deep sleep I hadn’t noticed, although that did seem unlikely.) I have now gone back to thinking it was probably an insect bite as I have seen other people’s that look just like mine.

GreatWesternValkyrie · 03/08/2018 20:03

That was a result of an ill advised indoor roller skating incident when I collided with the sideboard aged about 6. I never saw the roller skates again...

Hahah Auditbird no one escaped the 70s unscathed! I suspect Northernpowerhouse may be a fellow victim as this has the hallmarks of the same decade!

Gierg · 03/08/2018 20:09

I was shaving my legs about 10 years ago and tore off a massive strip of skin (that I then had to remove from the razor Envy) from my ankle and got a sweet lightning bolt scar that you can still see today...

Have a good few others, but they're all pretty small.
