I had a recent thread running about having an abscess in my lip. Unfortunately I think it is going to scar.

It got me thinking about scars and the stories behind them.

I have a scar running across my arse cheek from sitting on my hair straighteners as a teen. That was fun when it went all scabby and stuck to my school tights. I have a small scar on my finger from slicing straight through a bagel, and a fag burn scar on my hand from my drunk friend (again as a teen). I also have the obligatory pregnancy stretch marks that still resemble a british road map 6 years on Blush

So, what scars do you have and what are the stories behind them?

I scar really easily. One under my chin, from falling in the bath when I was wee, one on my leg from a stitched wound which didn't heal properly, one on upper arm from a dog scratch, a few on my hands from minor burns. Both knees are a mess from childhood falls. A Dr once asked me when if had my knee surgery and didn't believe that my scars were just due to clumsiness.

ClandestineAdulation · 03/08/2018 11:37

I have two scars on one leg, each about 4 inches long, after slipping on spilled alcohol in a club then landing on the offending bottle.

Also some self harm scars on my thigh which will soon be able to pass for stretch marks 🤞🏻

SurlyValentine · 03/08/2018 11:40

Oh god, I have loads!

Chicken pox scar in my left eyebrow, scar in my eyeball from surgery, one on my lip from my front teeth going through it when I was pushed off a podium in a nightclub, one on my chest from having a mole removed, one on my arm from falling off a fence, one on my elbow from falling in the playground at primary school while linking arms with my friend (bloody Michael Parish pushed her!), one on my hand from a drunken fall in London, about five on my legs from various falls and insect bites, and a deep one on my thumb of which neither I nor my parents have any idea as to the source!

FloweringOrchid · 03/08/2018 11:42

It’s funny how they just become a part of you. Alot of the time there isn’t much you can do about them other than accept them.

My DS2 has a large scar running through his eyebrow from running into the TV unit bastard peppa pig ... the thing is he’s had it that long now, he wouldn’t look like my DS without it. I hope it doesn’t bother him when he’s older.

I have a scar in my forehead where a goose bit me.

One on my nose from chicken pox

About 40-50 self harm scars on my left arm

C section scar

Large scar at the top of my leg where a pot of boiling tea fell on me and suffered 2nd degree burns

n0ne · 03/08/2018 11:45

A large straight one across my lower back where I kicked a bottle my mum was preparing for me as a baby in the back of a car, and the hot water stopped at my nappy.

One on my neck where a large hemangioma was removed when I was 3.

One between my lower lip and chin where I tripped over drunk in the dark, banged by chin on a radiator and managed to impale my chin on my tooth. Bled like a bastard.

Round scar on my boob which was a tiny imperceptible cut as a kid but expanded as my boobs grew to about the size of a 5p.

Various small scars from mozzie bites, acne, chicken pox and vaccinations.

PerfectlyPosed · 03/08/2018 11:46

I have one just on the edge of my eyebrow from a car accident when I was 18. I used to get asked if it was an old piercing gone wrong.

Also have quite a big one on my knee from where I got chased by some kids in Turkey who I think were trying to lead me and my friends to a group of older boys. I was about 10 and I fell over as I ran up the steps to the restaurant where our parents were.

vampirethriller · 03/08/2018 11:48

Both wrists are covered in scars from burns working as a cook for many years.
One large round one on my arm from a cyst removal.
Upper lip has a big red one from a soup accident.

SilageMarner · 03/08/2018 11:49

An ex came back from a camping trip with a similar bum scar to you, OP - he’d sat down on the fire starter.

This being the 90’s, his mates sang the prodigy at him for the rest of the weekend!

Roomba · 03/08/2018 11:56

I have scars from two c sections - well, it's mostly one scar just a bit longer at one end where the first I e was done. I cried when I saw the first scar, it was so horrible I thought no one would want to have sex with me ever again! Can barely see it now, amazing how the body heals eventually.

I have a scar right across the sole of my foot, after I dropped and smashed a mug then stood on the remnants. I was very drunk at the time but still shudder remembering the pain! That bled a lot and I couldn't walk right for weeks after the stitches were out.

I have scars on my arm and elbow from badly breaking my arm and having rods/pins in while it healed. I was only 9 so you can barely see those now.

Heatherjayne1972 · 03/08/2018 12:02

Chicken pox scarring. And lots of little spots where I’ve caught myself in sharp dental instruments over the years
Two c-section scars- still numb 9 years on
And a huge ugly appendix scar when they had to re open the wound after I had blood poisoning post op (InThe days before keyhole surgery )

Ollivander84 · 03/08/2018 12:03

Wrist scar - boiling caramel spill
Couple of chicken pox scars
Large spinal scar from emergency spinal surgery

Kingkiller · 03/08/2018 12:06

I have a small chicken pox scar on my ribcage (can't see it because boob is in the way!). Also a couple of scars on my abdomen from keyhole surgery to remive my gallbladder a couple of years ago. No scars from injuries at all.

SchrodingersMeowth · 03/08/2018 12:07

I also have a scar from sitting in a curling iron! Was awful!

Skarossinkplungerridesagain · 03/08/2018 12:08

1 on my face and one on my right thigh. Both dog bites, the first when I was 9 months old, the second from 5 years ago

SurvivedTheirTeens · 03/08/2018 12:13

One on my ankle from catching it on a metal scooter.
An inch long vertical one on my knee from kneeling on a piece of broken glass.
A nasty one on the other knee from falling on rough ground and gouging out a flap of skin (that really hurt)
A faint scar on the edge of my aereola (lump removal - all benign)
A thyroid scar at the base of my neck - long but faint
At the top of my index finger - glass broke in washing up bowl.

A fine collection for a 58 year old. Everything on legs pre 15, others pre 30.

Twistofanxiety · 03/08/2018 12:19

What a great thread:
I have one on my finger from cutting bread when I was 8, two from C-sections, one from laparoscopy, loads of bite marks from where I was attacked by a dog and a very weird one from where my dog got her teeth stuck in my bracelet and in her panic sawed through the skin so it was hanging off and now looks like I tried to cut my wrist.

DeathByMascara · 03/08/2018 12:19

2 x c-section scars
Multiple stretch marks
Network of nearly faded scars on front of left ankle from ouzo-related incident
One on right thigh from a rusty nail getting stuck in it as a kid
One on forehead a la Harry Potter from childhood accident
Two on chin from bike riding and drunk accident
Some other small ones that I can’t remember!

sueelleker · 03/08/2018 12:30

Major scar down my right knee after a TKR, small scar on my lower shin where I had a fibrous lump removed (insect bite that tissued). Scars down both palms from Carpal Tunnel ops. Scar on my left foot from a bunion removal. I think I keep the NHS surgeons employed single-handedly!

sueelleker · 03/08/2018 12:31

Oh, and a small scar across my thumb where I cut it on an opened corned beef tin. That's when I stopped using the little key to open them.

Novasglow · 03/08/2018 12:31

Two small dots on my chest from where I used to have microdermals (DD bit one out when she was 3).
Two semi circles on my elbow, one above and one below, from an operation to fix it after badly breaking it. Have told DD it was a shark bite Grin

spidey66 · 03/08/2018 12:33

Hysterectomy scar
3 small scars on my knee from arthroscopy
small scar on head from when I got hit by a car at 11 and needed stitches.
That's it, not too bad for 52.

Dommina · 03/08/2018 12:33

One in the middle of my forehead, chicken pox. One in the middle of lip, where I fell in to a side table as a child. One strange long one on my arm, and I genuinely don't know where it came from. I just ended up with a massive cut one day and I don't know where I got it.

3stonedown · 03/08/2018 12:38

I seem to have a habit of burning myself.
On at the top of my arm from curling tongs
One of the top of each wrist from the oven (on 2 separate occasions - I didn't learn)
One on my stomach from ironing my top whilst i was topless.

Then one on my eyebrow when I fell out of bed when I was 4

Stretch marks obviously (thank you DD)

Candolim97 · 03/08/2018 12:41

One on my left arm from eczema. Darker patch with deep wrinkled lines
My right nipple completely changed shape/texture due to bad eczema too Blush
Not really a scar but deep white stretch marks on my arse
Plenty of acne scarring on my face (including rolling / ice pick scars)

Oh and areas of dark pigmentation on my body due to eczema or acne but thankfully not deep enough to scar (change texture of skin) and I hope they will fade over time
