I had a recent thread running about having an abscess in my lip. Unfortunately I think it is going to scar.

It got me thinking about scars and the stories behind them.

I have a scar running across my arse cheek from sitting on my hair straighteners as a teen. That was fun when it went all scabby and stuck to my school tights. I have a small scar on my finger from slicing straight through a bagel, and a fag burn scar on my hand from my drunk friend (again as a teen). I also have the obligatory pregnancy stretch marks that still resemble a british road map 6 years on Blush

So, what scars do you have and what are the stories behind them?

I have a large vertical scar up my tummy from where I had hernia repair surgery, they sewed up my belly button so I no longer have one. I also have scars from bariatric surgery and one on my wrist from a burn as a teen when I was making cakes and the oven gloves had a hole in - picked the tray up from the oven, felt the heat on my hand and chucked the tray in the air. It came down on my wrist and hurt like fuck. 25 years later it's still visible.

I have scars.
Oophorectomy scar, big ones on my arm from being opened up for metalwork after breaking both bones in my forearm and having the metalwork removed, big one down my shin from a car crash where it was open to the bone, scars on both thighs from boiling plastic splattering on them, scar on my wrist from when my abusive ex cut through my tendons, one on my head from when he smashed a bone china mug on it, one on my nose from him punching it plus others, stretch marks on boobs and abdomen from growing and pregnancy and the usual scars on my knees from childhood plus minor bumps and bangs, one on my ear from a bike accident, really neat little scar, no idea how my ear got sliced.
I don't feel the need to hide my scars, I know someone who has one small scar and she's really self conscious about it...

Oh, and I have a scar on my thumb from when a red squirrel bit me

Purplejay · 10/08/2018 10:56

I have quite a few.

Chin from running and falling age 2. Had 2 stitches.
Eyelid from falling down steps - age 4/5.
Knees from doing piggyback races on netball court at school and falling (wouldn’t be allowed now).
R knee from falling off motorbike. A few stitches.
A few on my belly from appendectomy and colycistectomy (gall bladder).
Stretch marks.
Oh and at present one from an oven burn. I am regularly catching the edge of the oven on my upper wrist. You would think i’d learn. This one will go but they linger for weeks/months!

One 6 inch scar running up the outside of my left leg and one 3 inch scar up the inside, broken bones plus surgery.
3 inch scar on my abdomen from appendectomy.
1cm curved scar on my right index finger from cutting it open on a glass.
1inch scar on my vulva from a hernia op.
Small, faint scar on my forehead from splitting it open when a toddler.
Plus various other little ones from normal childhood injuries.

kaytee87 · 10/08/2018 11:41

Actually the ones on my legs are probably longer than that, there was 44 staples in them.

Oh and I completley forgot about the massive scat on my stomach!!
I knocked a freshly made POT NOODLE over my stomach a few months ago and it left a horrid massive scar.

3rd degree burns all over my stomach.

Good thread! I have a scar in my hairline from falling through a glass window when playing an energetic game of Pirate Ships on the back of a sofa as a child. Also a 10p sized scar on my leg from being disturbed whilst secretly shaving as a adolescent and gouging a chunk out of my leg Shock

I have what I consider to be ' a lot of' scars and have no problem accepting them as part of my body and also the marks which my life has left on me physically, my middle DD has one on her knee which she feels is debilitating to her in some way. She believes that it prevents her from wearing certain clothing and she sadly feels that her knee is 'ugly' when actually her knee has a noticeable scar and if she were asked about it she would then say''oh i fell off a ladder, I was climbing up blah blah when I was a kid and...'' but sadly, she is 23 and believes that her scar is an 'imperfection' in stead of just a marker for something that happened. sad eh?

Lots of little ones from various mishaps, but nothing too notable. Mostly from minor burns to hands from various cooking/ironing incidents.

I have very old self harm scars on my wrist and right arm. They're completely faded, but raised and quite visible, unfortunately. Also lots and lots of self harm scars on my thigh (some quite dark, even though they're all old). I used to be quite ashamed of them, but haven't been bothered in ages, and no one else seems so, either.

Caesarean scar - self explanatory
Laparoscopy scars (a circle on each side of my abdomen and a scar inside my belly button) from surgery for an ectopic
A strange long thin scar on my arm which started as a paper cut from a Christmas cracker!
A scar that runs for a centimetre around my middle finger starting at the base of the nail - serrated bread knife and not paying attention
Tiny dots on my hands and wrists - cannula marks from 2cs, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, 2 rounds of egg collection under sedation, 2 ERPCs following miscarriage.
I was hit by a car years ago and had extensive cuts and bruises and not a single scar from that, so how the heck did I get one from a cracker??
