I had a recent thread running about having an abscess in my lip. Unfortunately I think it is going to scar.

It got me thinking about scars and the stories behind them.

I have a scar running across my arse cheek from sitting on my hair straighteners as a teen. That was fun when it went all scabby and stuck to my school tights. I have a small scar on my finger from slicing straight through a bagel, and a fag burn scar on my hand from my drunk friend (again as a teen). I also have the obligatory pregnancy stretch marks that still resemble a british road map 6 years on Blush

So, what scars do you have and what are the stories behind them?

Sorry double Post, but I forgot about my massive BCG vaccination scar. It's the size of my thumb tip and feels like a massive hole under my skin...

princesskatethefirst · 03/08/2018 20:18

A navel to pubic bone scar, from a pelvic debulking op - cancer removal
Scar on forehead - again cancer removal
To scars on back from surgery- bloody cancer AGAIN
Scar on leg when I fel in the shower.
Another scar on head from walking into a open window!!

AuditBird · 03/08/2018 20:18

Ouch! !I think GreatWesternValkyrie and Northernpowerhouse and me are true victims of 1970s toy trauma!!

I wasn't allowed a Chopper. I had a second hand ladies bike from the woman next door, who was too old to ride it, with a basket on the front. If you have ever seen an episode of Foyle's War it was the kind of bike that the grocer's delivery boy would use in 1942.

bananasinpyjamas18 · 03/08/2018 20:20

I have a dent in my forehead where my sister slammed the bathroom door into my head when i was on the toilet and the elaborate door handle split my head open. Several small scars on my arm from where same sister stabbed me repeatedly with a pen.

A burn scar from the oven shelf from when i took a pizza out at 11yo.
Scar behind left ear from mastiod operation around 8yo.
C Section scar.

My parents hadn't a clue. Neither could drive, neither rode a bike. They either walked everywhere or caught buses. I had to walk 3 miles and back to high school every day. The first time they had to go to parents evening how they fucking complained about it!

Funnily enough my DM is now quite keen on us giving her lifts everywhere. Which we do if we can. But fuck me it really pisses me off. And she now understands. I have left her in no doubt about it.

I love scars. Big prominent scars. They tell a tale.

I have 4. One line on my finger tip where I crawled to the fridge and ate an opened tin of baked beans as a hypo diabetic 1.5 year old.

A 4 inch line on my ankle as a drip for a diabetic coma aged 5.

Two 7 inch straight lines for 2 x cs's.

Lynne1Cat · 03/08/2018 20:59

One on my right eyebrow (apparently when I fell over at the age of 3), one just under my chin (fell over at the age of 4),
one on my upper lip (some bully at school kicked me when I was about 8),
3 from where I had keyhole surgery to take my gallbladder out, about 8 years ago.

DrPeppersPhD · 03/08/2018 21:13

For all I scar very easily my scars don't tend to last, so most of the interesting ones are gone, but from the top:

  • One on my left boob where I pulled a callous off.
  • One on my elbow, self harm, used to be around 12 but after 6 months only one's left (which, if anything, proves how my scars don't last).
  • 3.5 on my knuckles, same source.
  • 2 stretch marks on my lower stomach, most have faded but these two are left.
  • One on my knee from tripping on a tree route and going knee first into a brick, most of it is long and thin but the bit on the left is much thicker where the corner impaled me.
  • Another one on the same knee, perfectly round, where I tripped on the lip of the stairs and went knee first onto an old nail head (the ones that stood proud of the surface).
  • Multiple little ones on my foot where I fell off a rock face, got back to shore and then tripped and cut my toes open on a rock under the surface.

Trampled by a horse. She yanked off a section of my calf. Took a loooong time to heal.

CustardOmlet · 03/08/2018 21:28

My chin has a strange mash of scars mostly from not putting my hands out as a child. I added to the scars about three months ago when i once again fell and forgot to put my hands out. I’m 32. I also have a 4inch scar up my leg from a malignant melanoma removal in my teens.

CustardOmlet · 03/08/2018 21:29

Bridgante9 that is impressive!

madcatsandenglishman · 03/08/2018 21:33

I have three c/section scars and one from when the cat bit my hand when I was trying to insert a suppository. It went in with somewhat more force than expected when I jumped in pain as he bit me. Stupid cat.

Brigante9 · 03/08/2018 21:36

Bridgante9 that is impressive

You should see the back! I’ve only got one straight after the hospital, bit gory for on here, but they basically roughly stitched it back together and obviously pulled as hard as they could. Right mess.

madamginger · 03/08/2018 21:37

I have one on my forehead from falling off a wall in primary school, one on my finger from slicing it open on a kitchen knife and lots of small surgical scars from having iffy moles removed.

DandelionAndBedrock · 03/08/2018 21:38

Several on my legs from surgery, and little ones dotted around my wrists and hands from canulas at the same time.

I also have a few nail marks around my jaw from someone grappling with my face.

I used to solemnly slather my legs in camo make up when at the pool, but I’m at a point where I am just about ok with them now. Just.

OddBoots · 03/08/2018 21:39

From my butt crack to half way up my back from spina bifida with tethered spinal cord surgery. Other than that just the odd faded chicken pox mark

Shosha1 · 03/08/2018 21:45

I have one on my forehead about inch long, DB pushed me off a rope swing and I landed in a drain. Knocked me out, blood everywhere. DB got all the attention tho as he ran into the jungle convinced he had killed me, and they had to get the Army out to find him
Two on my right palm, first one I was carrying a lid my DF had taken off a can, fell and it sliced into my hand, second one, had been to the IOW and bought pretty sand. I had put it in a test tube in layers, pushed a cork in the top. Tube split and it went straight through my hand.
Variety of Op scars, appendix, tubes being cleared, knee op.
All the childhood ones were in the 1960’s

OctoberMarch · 03/08/2018 21:55

I have an appendectomy scar which is about twice the length it should be, because apparently, the surgeon had trouble finding my appendix. This is due to the fact that my appendix decided to develop underneath all of my intestines instead of in front of them. This is the same reason I kept being fobbed off by doctors, being told I just had bad period cramps, and very nearly died. Thankfully my mum refused to leave the hospital until I was seen.

loopylass13 · 03/08/2018 21:57

Covered from knees to shoulders in stretch marks - thanks to growing quick at 13, being pregnant at 17 and not shifting the baby weight until 21.

Self harm scars - I was merely curious about self harm, it bloody hurts to hurt yourself but as a daft teenager I just had to try it once. I was an idiot

I walked into a half dis-mantled rowing machine as a child and have a nice indent now on my right ankle.

sanityisamyth · 03/08/2018 22:01

2 knee operations caused 5 scars on each knee
1 keloid scar on elbow from putting my arm through a window to escape from my psycho sister
Numerous knife and blade scars from psycho sister stabbing and cutting me
Numerous burn marks from cigarettes psycho sister put out on me

Not to mention the mental scars

burblife · 03/08/2018 22:15

One small line on my back from having a mole removed.

One chunk out of my calf from childhood - I ran across slippy school floor in tights and fell, slicing my leg on the metal strip in a doorframe.

Cut to the bone on both thumbs - amazingly two separate occasions of Knife slippage whilst cutting Parma ham! Needed stitches in one.

Huge ugly c section scar as it tore open whilst healing. Hopefully I have another section and get that one neatened up!

4yearsnosleep · 03/08/2018 22:39

The interesting ones:

One on my forehead where I ran into a barbed wire fence

One on my pubic area from ironing naked

One on my arm where my then 5 year old brother scratched a mole off.

Loads of boring ones

4yearsnosleep · 03/08/2018 22:47

The goose bite might be my favourite @GreenMeerkat Grin

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/08/2018 22:47

EMCS scars
Falling off bike,scooter scars.

derxa · 03/08/2018 22:49

I have scars from DIEP flap reconstruction due to mastectomy. Scar across stomach where tissue was removed and scar where tissue was attached to make a new breast. I wear them with pride.
