Sorting laundry, I have just discovered that, not only do dh's trousers have large, deep pockets made of strong fabric with strong seams, but they also have a change pocket at the bottom of the main pocket! A proper, little, well-made pocket so your change won't rattle around or get pulled out and flung across the room when you take your phone out of your pocket!

And, to add insult to injury, when I mentioned this to dh he didn't know anything about it!

Good design is wasted on men Angry

YANBU. They get pockets. And pants without stupid pointless bloody bows on.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 30/07/2018 13:33

Inner coat pockets get my big hairy goat.

Every coat, blazer, jacket my dp, dad or sons have ever got have had inner pockets.

One of mine has. Im 33, I've owned a lot of them

AlonsoTigerHeart · 30/07/2018 13:34

Oh and why do all thin tops have the tiny boob pocket?!? Usless.

Designed by a man, no woman would do that

Occamsrazorblade · 30/07/2018 13:35

Socks that don’t shrink!

My socks end up fitting my small child after one wash. DH’s stay the same size as the day they were bought.

I now buy men’s socks.

BangingOn · 30/07/2018 13:37

I think it was on Mumsnet that I was pointed in the direction of an article on why pockets are a feminist issue. Interesting reading.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/07/2018 13:39

How can he not know about the change pocket? LTB

IJustHadToNameChange · 30/07/2018 13:39

Ohhhh, the boob pockets!

Worse that one over the left tit, is one over each tit.

What fucking use are they?

Too small and shallow to hold anything, things drop out when I lean forward, as there's nothing to secure the contents.

They only serve to highlight boobs.

I don't want to highlight my boobs, they get looked at enough.

I want to wear something that looks practical and functional.

PamBeeslysCardigan · 30/07/2018 13:58

My new dress has pockets.
I bore everyone with boasting about my new dress because IT HAS POCKETS!
I hope I am buried in it when I die so I can come back as a ghost and tell everyone that my dress has pockets.
Why do men get the monopoly on pockets?
P.s. my new dress has pockets.

AveABanana · 30/07/2018 14:00

IJustHadToNameChange

I used to work with a man who, being a Man, did not have a handbag. So he used his two shirt pockets for everything he would have put in his handbag. We used to call them his "utility boobs," being as they were the same size and position as most breasts.

GazeboLantern · 30/07/2018 14:00

Yeah, pockets are so definitely a feminist issue! I've not read the article you mention, but the instant I read your post it was crystal clear.

Pockets free you up from being encumbered by a bag, from the vulnerability of a bag being snatched.

But for decent pockets you need clothes that do not fit snuggly. Clothes that do not cling to your contours. My baggy jeans make me look what I am: a saggy, overweight, middle-aged woman. But I can fit my wallet into the pocket (if I don't mind the bulge, and the consequent damage to the fabric of my trousers). OTOH when I wear my snuggly-fitting jeans I get compliments and my colleagues ask me whether I've lost weight.

I share your jealousy, I've always accepted that men have bigger pockets (and have often bought mens jeans for my own wear) BUT when I noticed that my DS (4) had bigger pockets that mine, that's when full jealousy hit me. He only carries stones!!!

(lighthearted rage)

NinetySixer · 30/07/2018 14:06

If I were a man I would live in a suit just o get full use of the range of pockets on offer but also well fitting shirts. I have had BFs of various shapes and sizes and without fail they could easily find a shirt that fitted well.

I have given up on findin a well fitting blouse or shirt. They aren’t cut for women with boobs. When I was skinny Inwould still have to wear a vest underneath to avoid exposing myself. As I have got bigger I have noticed that they don’t make the arms bigger so you can’t get your shitting arms in the sleeves even though they are proportional to your body.

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/07/2018 14:08

Link please PamBeeslysCardigan!

I have a new house dress and with pockets it would be perfect. I might add some.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/07/2018 14:10

I had to give my 4 year old my phone to carry the other day, because he was wearing thin jacket with zippy pockets and I was wearing a knee-length dirndl skirt (so not tight fitting, but no pockets), vest and cardigan. Rage! he was ever so proud to be helping me, bless him

M3lon · 30/07/2018 14:11

I'm thinking of getting my first smart phone, but I genuinely don't understand how I could keep it on my person without it ending up on the floor or in the toilet all the time.

Should I just wear mens clothes?

Women's jeans have the wee pocket for change.

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 30/07/2018 14:23

Oh yes....OP I entirely understand

Dp moans when stuff falls out of my pockets when I have my evening shower....well yes dear because my pockets are woefully inadequate ( sadly this usually results in him silently and pointedly looking at my borderline unhealthy collection of handbags...its not the same!!)
And don't get me started on the wonders of skirt pockets....

PamBeeslysCardigan · 30/07/2018 14:23

@AnneLovesGilbert
Adding pockets is a great idea!

I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it makes me look a little frumpy.. but it’s on sale and it has pockets!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/07/2018 14:23

Were the trousers made of cotton Envy?

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 30/07/2018 14:24

You are not BU! I now wear Lucy and Yak dungarees. They have lovely lovely big pockets!!

nocoolnamesleft · 30/07/2018 14:24

And even the trousers with pockets mostly have silly shallow little pockets. Not decent deep pockets.

PigletJohn · 30/07/2018 14:25

It's pockets that have enabled men to rule the world.

MikeUniformMike · 30/07/2018 14:26

One chest pocket is ok but two is a no-no (are you reading, M&S?)
Stupid tabs inside sleeves or on shorts to hold up turn-ups are annoying.
Men definitely get pockets in most of their clothes, but when I was moaning about how crap women's clothes were for lack of pockets, DP pulled out a pair of shorts of his with NO pockets, not even a little inner one for keys.

shumway · 30/07/2018 14:28

I thought it was just me that avoids tops with stupid pockets right on the boob.
