Sorting laundry, I have just discovered that, not only do dh's trousers have large, deep pockets made of strong fabric with strong seams, but they also have a change pocket at the bottom of the main pocket! A proper, little, well-made pocket so your change won't rattle around or get pulled out and flung across the room when you take your phone out of your pocket!

And, to add insult to injury, when I mentioned this to dh he didn't know anything about it!

How about the gusset of knickers ALWAYS being in the wrong place? Angry

LEELULUMPKIN · 31/07/2018 21:52

I thought it was just me! Had a heck of a time just recently trying to find a denim skirt with proper pockets.

Haggisfish · 31/07/2018 21:53

Boden clothes often have good pockets-in both my jersey dress and my long skirt.

N0tfinished · 31/07/2018 22:24

Goth yes!! And sanitary wear never seems to go up high enough. Especially the ones with wings...

blahnikandlouboutins · 31/07/2018 22:29

Gusset is in the right place for me but bra straps way too long, even on the shortest setting, I don’t have breasts round my middle thanks!

And yes, sanitary towels are a ridiculous length, long ones too long, others too short.

BSJohnson · 31/07/2018 22:35

@GazeboLantern and @SkaTastic

It's from Monsoon. But you need the patience of a very patient thing to get their website to work. Worth it, though!

CiaoBellaCiao34 · 31/07/2018 22:58

blahnik Sanitary towels are also always too wide. Too wide for my fanny and two wide for my pants.

I strongly suspect that sanitary towel designers have never seen either a woman’s pants or her fanny.

blahnikandlouboutins · 31/07/2018 23:28

”I strongly suspect that sanitary towel designers have never seen either a woman’s pants or her fanny”

😂

There are a lot more women's clothes with pockets around in the last few years though. I think something is changing, as with the lasting popularity of flat shoes. (Flat shoes that aren't trainers and which fasten securely without looking like children's school shoes, though, those are still difficult to find.)

The other week I tried on a dress and reached down for the pockets and was bewildered that they weren't there. It was weird. But it says something that I'd got so used to the presence of pockets - unlike 10 or 15 years ago when it took great effort to find anything other than jeans with pockets.

tildaMa · 01/08/2018 08:05

@NinetySixer

If I were a man I would live in a suit just o get full use of the range of pockets on offer but also well fitting shirts. I have had BFs of various shapes and sizes and without fail they could easily find a shirt that fitted well.
I have given up on findin a well fitting blouse or shirt. They aren’t cut for women with boobs.

Three words for you: Pepperberry (available in Bravissimo), BiuBiu, Urkye (available online).
Shirts, tops, jackets, dresses - they use special sizing, first is your body size, second is how much space for boobs you need.

NinetySixer · 01/08/2018 09:07

@tildaMa

I have used those brands however never found stuff to fit properly. Also they are so expensive far more so than a man would have to pay to get a decent fitted top.

DumbledoresApprentice · 01/08/2018 09:10

I agree. Definitely a feminist issue. I recommend Uniqlo. All of the skirts, shorts and trousers that I have from there have decent sized pockets.

FiftyShadesOfDuckEggBlue · 01/08/2018 09:51

I love this thread. It is a feminist issue and I've been saying this for years!! There is an increased chance of me buying a skirt or dress if it has large, comfy pockets.

Kismett · 01/08/2018 09:57

This is one if the best things about learning to sew. You can add pockets to everything, exactly where and how you want them!

GazeboLantern · 01/08/2018 10:27

Trouble with Uniqlo is that, while their pockets may be decent sizes, their clothes are not! I have never found anything in Uniqlo that fits me.

Clionba · 01/08/2018 11:10

tiny boob pockets just why?
Pockets are most definitely a feminist issue! I have a very nice, expensive, stylish jacket that has no pockets at all

pennycarbonara · 01/08/2018 11:22

Those chest pockets aren't functional, but I like them because they are a feature taken from men's military style shirts. It's really annoying when designers think shape means you have to wear clothes with traditionally feminine styling. (Way too many of the bravissimo clothes do that.)
It is annoying when a dress only has the chest pockets and no side pockets in the skirt, but I find that isn't nearly as common as it used to be.

soupforbrains · 01/08/2018 11:23

@blahnikandlouboutins agree! and also the straps on any sort of top/dress with skinny straps. I have to tie knots in them in order to not have the neckline of the top sitting below my nipples!

LeighaJ · 01/08/2018 12:24

The only thing I dislike more than trousers without pockets are ones with faux pockets or teeny useless ones.

Pockets are wasted on men especially since every time we go out my husband (and I suspect many others) tries to palm off his stuff on me because I have a handbag.

MapofTassie · 01/08/2018 13:17

I have one of these: www.mec.ca/en/product/5028-449/Small-Personal-Item-Belt#reviews

  • I walk dogs twice a week and I keep my phone in it (iPhone 6s). Could also be used for keys etc.
soupforbrains · 01/08/2018 13:20

@MapofTassie that is DEFO just a bumbag by another name albeit sleeker. Grin

MikeUniformMike · 01/08/2018 13:23

Uniqlo sizes are fine. They tend to be quite short though.

MapofTassie · 01/08/2018 13:24

@soupforbrains - 'tis very sleek. - It also fits 4 passports in it!

sadiekate · 01/08/2018 16:19

LTB

SargeantAngua · 01/08/2018 18:17

This is why I like making my own skirts - pockets in all of them!
