To be consumed with jealousy?

Sorting laundry, I have just discovered that, not only do dh's trousers have large, deep pockets made of strong fabric with strong seams, but they also have a change pocket at the bottom of the main pocket! A proper, little, well-made pocket so your change won't rattle around or get pulled out and flung across the room when you take your phone out of your pocket!

And, to add insult to injury, when I mentioned this to dh he didn't know anything about it!

Good design is wasted on men Angry

Lindy Bop dresses (I wear almost exclusively LB dresses) nearly ALL have pockets...sensible people. Useful for when you don’t know what to do with your hands, as well as for carrying tins of beans, pebbles, phones, odd lengths of string, puppies etc.

GOOD DRESSES

N0tfinished · 30/07/2018 16:15

My new seasalt jeans have gorgeous deep proper pockets. Four of them. They also slide off in the evening so I can step into them next morning, instead of turning inside out like stupid stretchy skinny jeans.

This pic is not me, it's off the website. I'm not quite so insouciant.

I bought a skirt with pockets - it's a little bit Little House On The Prairie style but it has pockets!

Why, when men's clothes have so many pockets does OH try to stuff my bag with his stuff? Confused

PamBeeslysCardigan · 30/07/2018 16:20

@sexnotgender and @soupforbrains the weirdest ribbon things I’ve found so far were on pyjama bottoms, who hangs up pyjama bottoms?! Confused

Livinglavidal0ca · 30/07/2018 16:25

I have this from h and m! Every time I wear it I show off my pockets 😂

sexnotgender · 30/07/2018 16:25

@soupforbrains yes those little treats. Also my new seasalt tops have one straight across from one side of the neck to the otherConfused buggered if I know what that one is for!

Oysterbabe · 30/07/2018 16:30

Yes why don't men's clothes have those fucking ribbons in?

soupforbrains · 30/07/2018 16:30

oh yes! I nearly garotted myself on one of those @sexnotgender it's also to do with hanging. something to do with keeping the shoulder on the hanger rather than the top slipping backwards or some nonsense.

either way... snip snip snip.

bsbabas · 30/07/2018 16:44

I forgot about pockets I miss pockets even my jeans don't have any

sporadicrains · 30/07/2018 16:50

The pseudo-pocket is what gives me the rage. What's the point in a cunningly-fashioned bit of sewing that is designed to look like a pocket?

Almost as bad is the micro-pocket. You know the sort - barely big enough for a 50p piece.

applesisapple5 · 30/07/2018 16:52

I've got loads of 0-3mo boy baby clothes that have loads of pockets, for what?!?!

Oysterbabe · 30/07/2018 17:15

His wallet and phone obviously.

IJustHadToNameChange · 30/07/2018 17:30

Even worse, the fake pocket.

I spy a garment across a shop floor, see it has pockets and when I get there and check to see if the pockets have been sewn closed, I find it has fake pocket flaps.

Jackets, trousers, jeans, front and back.

Arses.

BSJohnson · 30/07/2018 17:35

I bought this online because yay, 100% LINEN! Plus it comes in bigger sizes and hides bingo wings.

Imagine my joy when I put it on and found it also has (unadvertised) pockets. It is the frump middle-aged woman's holy grail.

DH can fit his keys, wallet, change And mobile in his pockets whereas I can’t even get my phone in mine Angry. He had s pair of shorts with a passive set of zip pockets which are fab when abroad.

It’s a vicious circle, no proper pockets because women have bags and we are forced to carry bags because of no proper pockets.

I remember being annoyed at primary school when I had no pockets to keep my lunch money in and had to carry it in my hand as we had to leave bags in the class. In secondary carrying a bag everywherebwas fab.

BlankTimes · 30/07/2018 18:48

@PamBeeslysCardigan

Lovely dress, are you sure it doesn't also have a hip flask pocket, being Barbour Grin

SkaTastic · 30/07/2018 20:02

BSJohnson where is that from please I love it!! Pockets!

GazeboLantern · 30/07/2018 20:35

Oh I love it BSJohnson! Where did you get it?

Most dresses are made from such light fabrics, and are so softly structured, that carrying anything in the pockets would pull the garment right out of line. Or swing out as you turned around and give a small child a black eye with your phone. (Which hasn't happened to me, no, definitely not, and certainly not to my own dc Blush)

And I like the Barbour one, too. But the only size available is literally half my size.

I have a ski jacket. Really old now and a bit worn but it has loads of pockets and a hood and underarm zips. Great for walking to the shops in the winter.
Fake pockets are so annoying.

QuimReaper · 31/07/2018 11:09

they also have a change pocket at the bottom of the main pocket! A proper, little, well-made pocket

OK, this is driving me mad. At the bottom of the main pocket? Like an ante-pocket?

I'm trying to find a picture of this online but I can only find pictures of the tiny ones you get on top of the side pockets on jeans!

Can anyone show me this marvel?

soupforbrains · 31/07/2018 11:11

omg @QuimReaper I'm SO glad you've asked,

this has been driving me mad too but I hadn't had time to do my own internet based research yet so didn't want to ask for fear of looking like a prat.

Imagine my joy when I was bought pyjama bottoms as a gift and they have pockets! None of this silky, flappy material without pockets, but lovely brushed cotton, plaid with elastic cuffs ( so I don't trip over). Unfortunately too warm for right now but I intend to wear them into the ground for another year as soon as the first leaf falls on the ground!

purpleweasel · 31/07/2018 11:56

I only ever wear dresses & skirts so miss pockets terribly, though there have been a few more around recently. Probably more to do with fashion than practicality though.

"Lucy Locket lost her pocket, Kitty Fisher found it..." Have bought a stand-alone pocket, a bit like a bum-bag but flatter. Not quite exactly what I want but will do until I can make my own. Debating whether to make an under-the-clothes one & cut access slits in my skirts so it's more like a real pocket?
