To be consumed with jealousy?

Sorting laundry, I have just discovered that, not only do dh's trousers have large, deep pockets made of strong fabric with strong seams, but they also have a change pocket at the bottom of the main pocket! A proper, little, well-made pocket so your change won't rattle around or get pulled out and flung across the room when you take your phone out of your pocket!

And, to add insult to injury, when I mentioned this to dh he didn't know anything about it!

Good design is wasted on men Angry

Those shorts would be brilliant for getting on holiday with just hand luggage. Thanks PigletJohn. I doubt that they have them in my size but I might suggest them to DP.

PigletJohn · 30/07/2018 14:37

18 pockets

Ha ha ha!

Even an office suit has about nine (plus shirt)

A pair of DHs swimming trunks have pockets. `but tat just results in wet money etc
I am wearing a pair of designer jeans (bought on outnet for over 50% off) which has such small pockets that my one and only tissue falls out if Im not standing up. Can just fit my oyster card in the back pocket. Have ruined 2 phones down the loo. They are very flattering tho.

PigletJohn · 30/07/2018 14:40

16b Flying suit

pigletjohn flying suit not so easy when you need a wee!

Jaxhog · 30/07/2018 14:47

Bother, now I have pocket envy.

I want pockets inside my jackets and a change pocket in my trousers. I also want to get rid of those awful boob pockets on M&S T shirts. They don't look good, and serve no useful function.

GazeboLantern · 30/07/2018 14:58

Be very careful, PigletJohn, those laurels upon which you rest may turn out to be a crown of pyracantha...

This infuriates me. I have very few clothes with pockets. Skirts, trousers, jackets, tops, shirts, with the exception of jeans, even if they have pockets I find that they're simply 'show' pockets, in that they look like pockets but don't perform like pockets. They're either too shallow, too narrow or sewn shut (for my own protection?) I know it's to keep them looking sleek but still.

What I'd love are slanted, zipped pockets on most things. Flattering and functional, Jesus, I'd even accept a button fastening.

At present, if I'm wandering around the house and not wearing something with a pocket, I resort to keeping my phone in my bra - good job it's a big bra! Have to be careful bending over though as I'm in danger of losing my phone when I bend over the loo to clean it, or dropping it in the bin when I bend over that.

If women's clothes had pockets, I'd gladly ditch bags.

MissConductUS · 30/07/2018 14:59

In men's dress trousers that small pocket at the bottom of the big pocket was originally intended to hold a pocket watch, as was the little pocket at the top of the front right pocket on jeans. They are included as a matter of tradition.

Trumpton · 30/07/2018 15:00

My new culottes have pockets ...big deep pockets that popper close . The photo is a bit blurred because I am swishing my pockety trousers that I made .

I refuse to buy t-shirts with boob pockets. It annoys me when otherwise good t-shirts are ruined by their pointless addition.

MikeUniformMike · 30/07/2018 15:03

What pattern was it Trumpton. I need pockety pants.
No room in my bra for a phone.

mrjoepike · 30/07/2018 15:05

this is the reason i have always worn levis or bdu pants(cargo )
i have never carried a purse and any overflow goes into boot tops.
i have closets full of dresses and blazer type jackets many don't get worn often because of the lack of pockets.

tiny pocket at top of jeans pocket was originally for pocket watches,i love it for change or medication i might need.

kikashi · 30/07/2018 15:06

sonjadog - me too. My late teen DD's have bought several boob pocket t shirts from H&M this summer in a range of colours and are now moaning at how crap they look and how useless they are after being washed (they are strangers to an iron, as am I on principle) and bemoaning their wastage of money.

Unobtainable · 30/07/2018 15:06

Maybe this is what we're supposed to use to transport our stuff around in...

I have a work dress which has pockets. It's a quite unusual blue and so I get a lot of comments about it. The first thing I always do is say "Thanks, IT's got pockets!"

once I was in that first thing in the morning state where you haven't actually spoken to anyone yet and was on the bus when a lady commented on my dress. I must have looked at least half mad because I stared at her rather bleary eyed and then half croaked half screached "S'got POCKETS!" with what, from the general shuffling away from me by the other passengers, I can only assume was a maniacal grin.

MikeUniformMike · 30/07/2018 15:10

That's an interesting pocket Unobtainable. do you have your phone set to vibrate?

Unobtainable · 30/07/2018 15:11

MikeUniformMike Grin never thought of that!

daddyorchipsdaddyorchips · 30/07/2018 15:14

I'm getting married in two weeks and my wedding dress has pockets. Proper, deep pockets. I did a little jig of joy when I found it.

GazeboLantern · 30/07/2018 15:17

Women's jeans have the wee pocket for change.

Have you ever tried using it for change? Im-bloody-possible. Besides, it was never actually designed for change. It was designed to take a single pocket-watch, because the men wearing these trousers would not have been wearing a waistcoat with fob pockets to carry their watch.

As it's visible, it remains as part of the style. Just like the now-unnecessary rivets remain.

Yes! I hate the rubbish, tiny pockets that come with my jeans!! Whenever I walk my phone tries to wiggle it’s way free with every step.

DH’s sweatpants/gym trousers, all have pockets. My yoga trousers, gym trousers, none. I had one pair of running shorts with a teeny tiny zip pocket in the middle of the back! What is that for?! Even one door key, minus a key ring would have been a struggle to fit. Was I supposed to put some change in there in case I needed the bus suddenly? Or was it to draw attention to a woman’s bottom? (I’m pretty sure if I had £1.85 bus fare jangling from the vicinity of my bum it’d draw attention!)

Even worse are the ‘fake’ pockets where they’ve gone to the trouble of stitching the outlines but neglected to add the actual pocket! I had a lovely blazer once with fake pockets, it gave me the rage in the end as I’d keep going to put my hand in it but just ended up rubbing my hip.

I have a few dresses and skirts with pockets and I love them. But I also announce to everyone “it has pockets!” like a mad woman!

GrumpyOlderBloke · 30/07/2018 15:20

So is that why I get 'that look' from my wife when I moan about cost-cutting retailers who don't put a top pocket on a shirt?

lazymum99 - that's why we invented zips.

Why doesn't this site have those little 'hide behind the sofa' emoticons?

DiegoMadonna · 30/07/2018 15:21

How can he not have known about the coin pocket? Basically every pair of mens shorts and trousers have it.

FrozenMargarita17 · 30/07/2018 15:22

I am currently wearing a pair of jeggings. They have big back pockets that everything falls out of. But fake front ones. I keep trying to put things in the front and dropping them Angry
