Mixed race kids called mongrels

Well I am fuming.

I am Asian my husband is white. Me and my husband were walking down the canal in Birmingham city centre today. We were with our 4 month old daughter and my 2 nephews and niece ( 6 to 11 in ages) We walked past a group of 4 young lads. They stared then started sniggering. As we walked passed they shouted "mongrels." This was obviously aimed at the children. We ignored them but I was furious.

I am angry that this was said in front of kids and obviously was a racial insult which hurts. Aibu to be so upset or is this the kind of abuse those in a mixed race relationship do encounter??

I know I should brush it off but didnt expect it in multi racial Birmingham.

Disgraceful. Also part of a mixed race couple and have experienced racism all my life across the country including very diverse places.

I’m sorry you had to experience that but unfortunately I’m not surprised.

SandyY2K · 27/07/2018 23:32

It's shocking. I'm black...I work in a public building and today a child with his mum...he was around 7/8 was getting irritated and said "there are so many black people here"

This is a very diverse part of London. His mum didn't say a word.

It's very said in this day and age.

Metoodear · 27/07/2018 23:32

It’s dosent go away I know it seems shocking and it is but their will always be racists my own mil told dh when was he going to stop fussing with ethics and get himself a nice white wife she won’t see the children either

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 27/07/2018 23:37

Up until last week I'd say I was surprised, not that people think like this but that they say it, but then last week an old lady asked my friend, who has a birth mark across his face, if he was the hulk, now nothing surprises me. It wouldn't cross my mind to think such a thing let alone say it, we are all equal. I'm from a tiny corner of rural England, everyone in my village is white, I'm all my time at school there was one person of colour yet despite my lack of integration I don't care if a person is black, white, red or blue, British, French or Romanian, straight, bi or gay, poor or rich we are all equal, how is this so difficult to understand

Metoodear · 27/07/2018 23:39

I couldn’t tell you what we experienced on holiday in Cornwall people staring open ducking mouthed never go back their again we will

Metoodear · 27/07/2018 23:40

Onlyjoinedforthisthread

People don’t feel the same and when you complain about them asking to touch your child’s hair as if some fucking pet
Your seseative or have a chip

funnylittlefloozie · 27/07/2018 23:40

Bloody disgusting but sadly becoming more common.

Pauperlil · 27/07/2018 23:43

Iv been to Cornwall a few times and I was worried about being stared at as im ethnic but dp is white and kids mixed , but I didn’t come across it in Cornwall at all

skippy67 · 27/07/2018 23:44

We had the same experience in Cornwall metoo. I will never go back there.

I get that when holidaying in the UK. It's like were aliens tbh.

A lot of people are still racist bit hide it or don't display it. I now accept it happens and I'll experience it.

People trying to touch my kids hair in braids like they're some mystical creatures.

Haworthia · 27/07/2018 23:46

My children are mixed white/Asian too, and I’ve never experienced overt racism like that. I’m really sorry you had to hear that Flowers

PickAChew · 27/07/2018 23:47

That's bloody horrible.

Unfortunately there are arse holes everywhere. I have 2 neuro disabled kids. One is learning disabled, loud and stimmy. I can understand old ladies being frightened and moving away. I would like to educate the kids who giggle, nervously at the weird child but realise that he is odd and might make them uncomfortable . I give full throttle to anyone, usually men a little older than me, who dares to verbally abuse us and don't even get a raised pulse, anymore.

Metoodear · 27/07/2018 23:47

funnylittlefloozie

Most of the posters who are in mixed relationships have said this is not MORE common they have experienced this throughout their life

The day I was born on the 80s a women refused to move for my mum on the bus she was in labour

user546425732 · 27/07/2018 23:47

Shame they didn't trip and fall in the canal.

SavannahSky · 27/07/2018 23:48

Why did you feel the need to give the thread that title?

Hmm
SoleBizzz · 27/07/2018 23:49

Yes I too have had a lot of racism directed at my Son and I.
Why is saying mixed raced children are so cute, racist?

SandyY2K · 27/07/2018 23:50

I remember being on a break in Wales . We were playing adventure golf and a member of staff comes over asking if he could take our photo for their marketing.

I said no before DH could open his mouth. I'm not interested in them trying to use as to show diversity in their brochures... when we we the only people of colour on the entire resort.

PickAChew · 27/07/2018 23:50

Because that happened, maybe?

PositiveVibez · 27/07/2018 23:50

I live in a backwards town. My sister was walking home from work and she said there were 2 teenagers walking in front of her, one of whom was mixed race. A car drove past, wound their window down and shouted 'black c**t'.

She was too slow to get her mobile out and get a picture of the number plate.

She said the girls ignored and walked on, but she was fuming and angry with herself for not getting any details that she could report to the police.

Sorry to bring politics into it, but with Brexit, trump, rees-mogg, Boris et al, these bigots seem to feel entitled to say whatever they want.

I am so sorry you encountered this OP, but it feels like we have gone back in time 😢

Metoodear · 27/07/2018 23:51

SoleBizzz

Because people fetish over mixed raced children in way they don’t over black children they are seen as more pretty because their mixed with white
