To think smoking is out of order...

In a kids' play park.

Adults sat on a bench in the kids' play area, a few metres from kids playing, chain smoking rollies.
I know that realistically it probably won't cause any damage to passing kids, being outside in the open air, but it's just not cool and not okay in my opinion.

Plus I'm pretty sure they just left their tab ends lying on the ground. Nobs. Angry

Oh for chrissake

I take it the park is in the OPEN AIR ??

Some of you wouldn't have coped in the 70s and 80s I swear !

Leesa65 · 23/07/2018 17:37

Bloody precious people .

WarPigeon · 23/07/2018 17:38

I suppose we should not allow diesel cars to drive past our children either? 🤔

Seasawride · 23/07/2018 17:39

Send in the SAS

Gracey79 · 23/07/2018 17:39

Pretty sure all my local parks have no smoking signs on the gates YANBU isn’t just the smoke it’s discarded cigarettes on the ground too - there’s just no need to do it there.

blueskiesandforests · 23/07/2018 17:40

I agree with you likea - especially if they left dropped butts on the ground. A children's playground isn't the place to smoke.

Standandwait · 23/07/2018 17:42

It's not really the smoke it's the bad example. Our local park doesn't allow it in the playground.

woollyheart · 23/07/2018 17:43

Some of us didn’t cope very well in the 70s and 80s. It was a nightmare!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 23/07/2018 17:43

Actually I agree. I don't think its OK to smoke in a kids play area - ours has no smoking signs up too.

blueskiesandforests · 23/07/2018 17:43

And Leesa I did indeed survive the 70s and 80s. Some things were better (kids playing out) but travelling in the boot of an estate car without a seatbelt (obviously), no seatbelts in the back if cars, no child car seats, smoking inside restaurants and pubs and nightclubs and train stations (Kings cross fire...) and on airplanes - not better.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 23/07/2018 17:44

And agree with the pp that said its more that its a bad example.

NewYearNewMe18 · 23/07/2018 17:51

LTB and call 101

ALongHardWinter · 23/07/2018 17:52

There is a sign up in the playground area of a park near me,saying that smoking is prohibited in the children's play area. I must admit that I was a little surprised at this, what with being in the open air. I don't honestly think there is any harm in smoking outdoors in a kids' playground.

LyndseyKola · 23/07/2018 17:53

YANBU. It’s disgusting. And I say that as a recently ex smoker. A kids playground isn’t the time nor the place!

I saw a woman stood at the bottom of the slide with a fag in hand, the way the wind was blowing meant every kid before hers had to slide down through the smoke. I couldn’t believe no other parent dared to say anything (I didn’t either as I didn’t have a child going through the smoke).

Seasawride · 23/07/2018 17:55

Can you have no smoking signs up outside? Is that a thing?

MrsAidanTurner · 23/07/2018 17:57

Yes it's out of order. They could use some self restraint and put the dc first.
Just for a few moments. Or step outside and smoke. It lingers in the air in the the heat as well. V v selfish.

LyndseyKola · 23/07/2018 17:58

Of course seasaw. You can have no smoking outside within the grounds of a hospital or inside a pub beer garden. There being sky above your head instead of a roof doesn’t change whether someone owns the land or attraction and whether they can implement no smoking rules.

blueskiesandforests · 23/07/2018 17:59

The only smokers I've seen in our local playground seem compelled to sit on the swings or lean against the frame the swings are in, smoking, instead of using the bench, totally oblivious to children who'd like to use them. Always the same group of extended family members with 4 miners accompanying one toddler. They don't drop butts at least.

HellenaHandbasket · 23/07/2018 17:59

I think it is minging and hugely inappropriate.

blackteasplease · 23/07/2018 18:00

Of course it's not on

I Have some lovely "Mum friends" who smoke and they do it well away from kids play area if we are at the park.

blueskiesandforests · 23/07/2018 18:00

miners should be smokers, pretty sure they aren't miners ...

ivykaty44 · 23/07/2018 18:01

It’s more harmful inside a car, for pollution than sat in a park next to someone smoking

MrsAidanTurner · 23/07/2018 18:01

I'm surprised they need a sign in a play ground. It's pretty bloody obvious you don't smoke in playground

Oysterbabe · 23/07/2018 18:02

All the kids play areas round here have no smoking signs. I think it's out of order to smoke in them in any event.

ProfessorMoody · 23/07/2018 18:02

YANBU. Smoking is absolutely vile and should be banned everywhere except the home where the person who wants to partake in the filthy habit lives.
