To think smoking is out of order...

In a kids' play park.

Adults sat on a bench in the kids' play area, a few metres from kids playing, chain smoking rollies.
I know that realistically it probably won't cause any damage to passing kids, being outside in the open air, but it's just not cool and not okay in my opinion.

Plus I'm pretty sure they just left their tab ends lying on the ground. Nobs. Angry

Are you one of those "cool" mothers who hogs the swings and grins her way around the climbing structure trying to make eye contact with everyone expecting admiration whilst oblivious to the fact you're blocking children from using the equipment or endangering them on multi user equipment due to the weight imbalance between you and other people's 8 year olds zzzzzz ?

There should be more playgrounds accessible to special needs adults, but children's play areas are generally not designed to bear adult weight, and there's a special place in hell for adults without special needs who hog the swings in children's play parks, or 16 stone session who bomb down helkter skellter slides and half land on other people's 2 stone toddlers.

blueskiesandforests · 24/07/2018 18:45

*session was supposed to say dads

To clarify, the park we went to yesterday has 2 children's play areas next to each other. Both have maximum age restriction signs. One is for slightly younger children, one for slightly older.

There's ample surrounding park plus picnic tables/benches, duck pond etc. where adults could smoke.

Why not leave the designated children's area smoke-free?

Yeah, or chavvy scrotes need to stop smoking in playgrounds.

RedRedBluee · 24/07/2018 22:58

Yanbu smoke is disgusting no matter where it is

likeacrow · 25/07/2018 07:38

You need to get a grip
Well thought out and reasoned response. Bravo.

I would love to see smoking banned in all public places. In My Glorious Reign.......

RoseAndRose · 25/07/2018 07:54

If it's a fancied play area, then if there is local demand they could out u 'please do nip smoke' signs (nit legally enforceable, but quite a deterrent)

If you think there is local demand, then you need to campaign for it locally. Perhaos starting by getting agreement to fence the are and fundraising to provide it (because there's oit much chance it will make it high enough up the council's budget priorities).

But first, I'll be banning - yes banning - younger DC from 8+ play areas. Bugger children need somewhere to play where they're not having to give way to little ones all the time. And I think that DC that age really need their play areas, as just hanging round in the park is nit an activity that should be started too young (and of course idc adds to the numbers smoking in the park)

lostfrequencies · 25/07/2018 08:01

I smoke but completely agree with you OP. People are selfish and rude. There seem to be a lot of then here!

lostfrequencies · 25/07/2018 08:01

Them*

likeacrow · 25/07/2018 08:28

@lostfrequencies

Completely selfish. And the only real response seems to be "it never harmed us" or "get a grip"... So basically no real argument.

As I've said, I drink, occasionally smoke, swear, but not in an area designed specifically for children. I really don't find that a hardship.

I love bonfire night and roasting marshmallows but I wouldn't light a bonfire in the children's playground. Even in the open air smoke is unpleasant if it's blowing into your face. The children's play area is clearly not the place to smoke hence why most of them are designated non smoking places. If anyone needs to get a grip it's the person who can't wait until they've left the children's playground before smoking.

BottleOfJameson · 25/07/2018 08:38

The 'you wouldn't survive on the 60s' comments are silly. I wouldn't drive a newborn baby around without a car seat or be happy to have no fire regulations. Maybe I wouldn't like it in the 60s but that's fine because it's 2018.

blueskiesandforests · 25/07/2018 09:08

zzzzz that's rather different - I'm glad your older child has places to play.

blueskiesandforests · 25/07/2018 09:09

Campfires and woidburners and bonfire night are about as relevant as ovens here surely Confused unless people are lighting campfires in the children's playground?

BertrandRussell · 25/07/2018 09:12

I did survive in the 60s. It was vile. My mother has white hair that she used a sliver rinse in because my father's cigarette smoke turned it yellow.

MaryShelley1818 · 25/07/2018 09:16

Totally inappropriate to smoke in a children’s play area...I’m surprised anyone would think that’s ok, just a bit of common sense.

Raspberry88 · 25/07/2018 09:25

Christ gillybeanz! Children these days aren't lucky not to have to breath in cigarette smoke. That's not luck, it's how it should be!

ProfessorMoody · 25/07/2018 09:46

@findthegap

It's not hysterical. Children and adults that don't smoke should not have to breathe in other people's foul poison. Smoking is a choice, and we haven't chosen to take part in a filthy habit, so we shouldn't have to suffer it.

Smoking should be banned in all public places and cars. You should only be able to smoke in your own home.

No one cares that you're killing yourself, but we do care that you could have an impact on us too. Fuck off with your fags.
