To think smoking is out of order...

In a kids' play park.

Adults sat on a bench in the kids' play area, a few metres from kids playing, chain smoking rollies.
I know that realistically it probably won't cause any damage to passing kids, being outside in the open air, but it's just not cool and not okay in my opinion.

Plus I'm pretty sure they just left their tab ends lying on the ground. Nobs. Angry

@zzzzz smoke fumes and setting a bad example aside, the amount of fag ends on the ground in all the children's playgrounds round here is appalling. But now I'm just repeating myself. I really don't get why you would find it inconceivable that a children's playground is not a good place to smoke but you're clearly determined to not see any harm in it so I give up.

What on earth is a thigh smacker?!

Oh right. I'd pictured a pantomime style smacking of thighs at something funny!

We can agree on that anyway: seeing kids getting smacked makes me feel very upset and uncomfortable.

Whether it has a significant impact or not, it's still bloody disgusting for children and adults alike to have to breathe that in. Add to that the influence and the fag ends everywhere. Just disgusting. When DS was on the beach as a toddler he wiggled his toes in the sand and they came up with a cigarette butt between them Envy Just vile.

Assaulting children is another story. I think that's fucking disgusting too, but it's about to be banned where I live, so hopefully we won't see that as much.

Swearing in front of children is reprehensible behaviour, but it doesn't give them cancer.

I think the posters who are defending it smoke in parks.

But smoking even in fresh air has been proved to be damaging (see here). You can't just decide that it isn't.

woollyheart · 25/07/2018 15:27

if you go into a playground with children surely you are expecting to interact with them, or at least help them if they need it.

How can you do that safely if you have a lit cigarette on you? It makes my heart lurch watching children dodge burning fags.

I was pushing my one year old on the baby swing and I overheard two people talking about me, they were smoking on the bench and going on about how my daughter will fall out 🙄 not sure how they came to this conclusion but it pissed me off that they had the nerve to sit and discuss me whilst they were smoking. I just told them thanks but she is in no danger of falling out, but passive smoking may be an issue, although I probably wouldn’t have said anything if they hadn’t

likeacrow · 25/07/2018 17:13

No bench is that close to play equipment it would be a physical hazard to falling children.
Kids wander round the play area. They don't just stay on the play equipment.

It's their area. Keep it smoke free.
