To only now realise that Pride is very anti-women - not just anti-lesbian - but misogynistic and male-orientated

I had no idea....

prideinlondon.org

Of the TWELVE photos that welcome you to their website ONLY ONE is of women .... and to compound the irony that one is of Stewards, i.e. women helping Pride happen, rather than celebrating and enjoying Pride as an active participant

I am really shocked that in this day and age ANY organisation that claims to represent WOMEN AND MEN can be so foolish as to show that they don't think women are important on the first page of their website.....

Ther are woman in the other photos you just need to learn how to look.

And stewards are active participants, volunteers who give of their time to ensure everyone is safe.

henpeckedinchief · 12/07/2018 14:19

Do you maybe get a different 12 photos each time you load the page? Because the 12 photos I'm seeing are about equally split between men and women and the women certainly aren't just stewards.

rosesandflowers1 · 12/07/2018 14:20

I got a very different set of pictures to you, I think. There seems to be a pretty even spread.

Joey7t8 · 12/07/2018 14:24

5 out of the 12 pics featured women when I clicked on.

You’ll need to go and find something else to be offended and outraged about today.

GinIsIn · 12/07/2018 14:26

YABU. A significant factor to more male participants in Pride is what Pride originally stood for - the march to decriminalise homosexuality, which was criminalised in a way lesbianism never was, which makes it a really important event for gay men.

Bombardier25966 · 12/07/2018 14:31

A nice mix of pics for me too, including one of (female) children.

Pride is not anti women or anti lesbian. HTH.

loveyouradvice · 12/07/2018 15:45

I am wondering about different sets of photos - mine had only the one of volunteers as women - and agree a delightful one of the two children, one of whom is definitely a girl - but not a woman!

How many do you see of men and transwomen as soloists or small groups, rather than large group shots? I see EIGHT of the TWELVE... with just ONE of women - and then the other THREE of large groups or the two children.

loveyouradvice · 12/07/2018 15:46

ps I agree the volunteer stewards are crucial and wonderful.... it just felt ironic to me given that women traditionally hold the supportive caring role, rather than the active one, and this is a stereotype one is trying to break away from.... but I may be reading too much into that! It is a lovely photo

I see one photo of three female helpers, one of two female children, and the rest are all men. I can't make out all the sexes in the superheros photo but it looks to be mostly men there too.

I have marched in several prides and they have always been mostly males marching but that may reflect that locally there are several gay bars and only one small lesbian bar.

BertrandRussell · 12/07/2018 15:52

Pride has always been very male oriented.

rosesandflowers1 · 12/07/2018 15:53

Maybe it's a different set of photos.

I can see some LGBTQ+ soldiers marching, a brightly dressed woman who I'm guessing is trans, a woman standing behind the man as he sits in a trolley, two little girls, a group photo of cos players, three men under a rainbow umbrella, three women in pink steward shirts (as you said), a shirtless man dancing, a group photo of I'm thinking some kind of prize ceremony, a drag queen/trans woman singing, a band and a picture of a male solo artist... are these the pictures everyone's getting? They're the ones I saw before.

Racecardriver · 12/07/2018 15:57

Scroll down, there are more pictures that are mostly women.

MsFrizzle · 12/07/2018 15:59

I think the reporting of one news article on Pride isn't going to be representative of the entirety of pride. Many of my female friends (lesbian, bi) went and had a wonderful time. Pride is about getting along, not about shoving each other out.

MsFrizzle · 12/07/2018 16:00

There's...literally 12 pictures on there. That is not encompassing all of Pride lmao.

loveyouradvice · 12/07/2018 16:17

MsFrizzle these are the TWELVE photos they have CHOSEN to represent Pride to everyone who goes on to their website i.e. it is the landing page and how they see Pride......

Its not just one article - it is how they have chosen to represent the breadth of PRIDE

I suspect as BertrandRussell says they have always been very male-orientated

And yes, I am smarting from the way they described a Lesbian protest as Anti-Trans..... and so misconstrued it that their video was inaccurate talking about Transgender, rather than Transactivists which is the word the protesters had intentionally used...

YANBU. Pride is a misogynistic corporate wankfest. Big business sponsors it to get woke points, I’ve been cringing at all the celebrities and business scrabbling to associate themselves with it this year, it’s so transparent and desperate. Would love to see some of them supporting less fashionable underfunded causes.

I think the fact that they have condemned a group of lesbians peacefully stating their boundaries and speaking up against males trying to encroach on those boundaries as a ‘hate group’ tells you what you need to know about Pride in 2018.

It represents the whole LGBT movement in that behind the sparkly rainbows and love is love stuff there’s some really shocking deep seated misogyny.

rosesandflowers1 · 12/07/2018 16:52

Didn't those 'peaceful' protestors hijack the parade, take the place of some NHS workers and trample a flag?

And wasn't it the lesbian board that condemned them? I don't think they all have penises, if any.

TacoLover · 12/07/2018 16:52

I have never seen an advert on MN that features a person of colour. Is MN racist now?

TacoLover · 12/07/2018 16:54

Yeah the protesters did forcefully take the place of the NHS people.

bigoldscaredycat · 12/07/2018 16:56

What utter rubbish roses. They marched in the procession with banners. They are lesbians. Pride is supposed to be for lesbians. So how that is a hijack I do not know.

For this there have been numerous calls online to rape and batter them and all ‘terfs’ like them. Some of them have also been doxxed and reported to their employers.

rosesandflowers1 · 12/07/2018 16:56

^^ In which case I'd expect them to be condemned. They clearly have no respect for anyone at pride, it's not just trans people they think they're above.

It's despicable that their actions are being defended.

bigoldscaredycat · 12/07/2018 16:57

8 mostly middle aged women forcefully took the place of another float?

Right.

NewYearNewMe18 · 12/07/2018 16:58

I get 3 shots of individual women, one shot of two women embracing, one shot of a building and the rest are mixed gender group shots.

rosesandflowers1 · 12/07/2018 16:58

Pride is indeed for lesbians.

But there are places in the parade for specific groups - and taking the space of one and trampling another group's flag is disrespectful and arrogant. It can't be defended.

bigoldscaredycat · 12/07/2018 16:58

I’m not going to engage further with someone who thinks women standing up for their boundaries is despicable, and that they deserve death and rape threats, I’m afraid.
