AIBU about weed smokers

martapolska · 25/06/2018 22:35

I think that they are becoming more in common. Every time I walk around outside on the summer day I smell weed.

AIBU to think that we should not tolerate weed? It's an illegal drug!!

Mrskeats · 25/06/2018 22:36

I agree but you will get loads of people here saying it’s no worse than gin etc

SharronNeedles · 25/06/2018 22:37

Better to legalise it in my opinion

gamerchick · 25/06/2018 22:40

You'll get loads of people telling you it's fine and other comparison to alcohol bollocks but mention smoking ciggies outside and people die and have a funeral because they're being literally murdered..

Can't stand weed personally.

HarrietSchulenberg · 25/06/2018 22:41

I smell it every time I walk my dog round our sleepy little town. From passing cars, house windows, everywhere. I even smelled it while walking round a local lake one Sunday afternoon (was a 20-something couple out for a stroll, with a fat spliff).

My eldest ds smokes it regularly. He reckons it's it perfectly normal and everyone does it. I do not, especially as it's royally fucked him up (he thinks he's having a great time; he is actually not).

LadyRussell · 25/06/2018 22:41

I don’t like it and my best friend smokes it constantly if we have a night together.

I worry because in both our jobs DH and I can get randomly drug tested Angry

Katescurios · 25/06/2018 22:42

I was stood at the bus stop the other day with a family of 3 adults, a toddler in a buggy and a 3- 4 yr old running around. All 3 adults were smoking weed.

I was really surprised, I know lots of people smoke it. But surely it's not the norm to do it around kids, in the middle of the day, in public?

DieAntword · 25/06/2018 22:43

I honestly don’t think weed is worse than alcohol but I hate stoner culture so much and wish it didn’t exist. I hate drink culture too though.

alphajuliet123 · 25/06/2018 22:46

Just curious, what is "stoner culture"?

Halfblindbunny · 25/06/2018 22:50

I have seen it turn people into absolute paranoid wrecks who can't function in daily life because of their paranoia. Also from my limited sample of people I know it is also more addictive than alcohol despite many people claims.

DextroDependant · 25/06/2018 22:52

I hate the stuff. It is addictive and it affects mental health. Users are adamant that it doesn't but it really does.

People I know smoke it all day every day and then say well would you prefer me to get drink every day instead well no I would rather you did none of those things every day!

Vinorosso74 · 25/06/2018 22:55

I can't stand the smell of it. It properly reeks! What is around now is a lot stronger than say 20 years ago and can cause a lot more psychological issues.

HelenaDove · 25/06/2018 22:58

Yep Smell it around my local town too. And our new downstairs neighbour smokes it so its either a. have the windows shut and sweat our guts out or b. have them open and put up with the horrible pungent sharp smell...........it fucking reeks.

CrochetBelle · 25/06/2018 22:59

I smoke the odd joint for pain relief, and won't apologise for it.

I only ever do it late at night in my own garden if I'm struggling for a good sleep, though.

TarquinTheThird · 25/06/2018 23:01

I used to love it in my teens/early 20s, but I observe that most of the acquaintances that are still heavy smokers are dropouts.

I find are annoying when people try and use alcoholics as a counter argument. Most people who enjoy a drink aren't alcoholics and don't do it every night.

But in moderation in the right time and place I don't really care. It makes music sound amazing...

SeriousSimon · 25/06/2018 23:01

How people can say it's harmless is beyond me. You can tell a stoner a mile off, even when they're straight.

I have no evidence, only my own perception after observing the changes in people I know that smoke it over years...but imo it eats your brain cells.

HelenaDove · 25/06/2018 23:02

Crochet no worries i wouldnt judge. Thanks

But ive also heard my new neighbours on a comedown arguing and what sounds like throwing furniture around. So its not just the smell.

NT53NJT · 25/06/2018 23:04

I hate weed. Turns people into morons.

olderthanyouthink · 25/06/2018 23:06

Hate the smell with a passion

WerkSupp · 25/06/2018 23:06

Would like to see weed and all drugs legalised and regulated and taxed the way alcohol and cigarettes are.

DextroDependant · 25/06/2018 23:09

@CrochetBelle your situation is different to the people I am thinking of, the ones that smoke it all day... "wake and bake" as they call it.

If I ever get into a dispute about it they are quick to reel off the health benefits..... all for conditions that they don't suffer from.

LexieLulu · 25/06/2018 23:11

See in medicine I am pro weed. My nan has Parkinson's and I'm sure she would have had a better life with it.

But I hate it generally. My next door neighbours smoke it and I can't even open my windows on a hot day. It's so selfish

Starlighter · 25/06/2018 23:11

Our neighbour’s kids (late twenties!) smoke it. It smells bloody awful. It wafts over to our garden, over our washing, over our kids playing... it’s horrible.

They always appear stoned and out of it. I get why some people might do it occasionally, but all day, every day?? It’s grim.

0h · 25/06/2018 23:11

I don't even know what it smells like!

But from hearing people talk about it and what people post online it seems that people are more open about smoking it. I don't like how normalised it seems to be - my cousin has some pretty serious mental health problems from it and I don't want my dc exposed to it as if it's normal and okay.

trove · 25/06/2018 23:13

I have never understood why people put drugs inside their bodies. It's just such a bizarre thing to do. I'm very anti drugs, even the 'soft' stuff. Sadly I am in the minority.

HelenaDove · 25/06/2018 23:14

Vinirosso it does seem a lot stronger now. I used to work in a sex chatline office 16/17 years ago and one of the other girls used to smoke it It was fairly strong but nothing like it is now and a bit of lavender air freshner and open windows used to help.

That wouldnt touch what i can smell now.

Its never interested me. Ive never even been drunk let alone high.
